James Rodriguez might step up then. Someone else I really enjoyed watching in the past (albeit much more recently)

Maybe, yeah. The Spanish media seems to think Real Madrid will go with a 4-4-2 again, like a few of the European games last season. So Cristiano and Benzema up front with Isco and James out wide. Don't think it'll work as well without Di María but unless we step it up big time and they have an off day it'll still be enough for them to win.

Do fancy our chances of scoring, just not winning. Can see Sterling and Coutinho linking on the counter.

Edit: didn't realise this was the Cristiano Ronaldo thread, bit off topic :D

I think he's an absolutely terrific player. Don't really understand why he's been used so sparingly (he has been used sparingly, right?) Would be one of my first names on your team sheet every week.

He says he was a world class player and that he's gone on to a new level since joining Real, seems fair enough no?

Does he say that? He said there were "signs that he was a world class player," whereas he could just say he was world class. Seems to me like he's saying he was on his way there. Maybe I'm reading too much into it.

He had a bit of a knock but yeah been on the bench once or twice even when fit. To be honest he's been really inconsistent this season so I can see why he was dropped, but he was great against QPR.

He's a lot more dangerous on the counter though, which is why I think he has to start tonight. His through balls are brilliant but he tries them even against packed defences which doesn't work, he needs to find a way around that.

I think that's nit picking to be honest. Plus, at Utd, you could say that the main part of Ronaldo's time here there were just 'signs' before he really confirmed he was a world class player, which he was when he left. I really doubt Gerrard meant it as a slight on Utd, I think he just wanted to highlight how Ronaldo had raised the bar since going to Real, which is fair.

For the majority, sure. Fact remains that it was more than just signs and we did get to see more than just that potential to be world class. It would be stupid to try and say he's the same player that left, but we had an amazing talent and the price tag, as if we needed it to tell us, showed his status as a player.

All I'm really concerned about is that he tears Liverpool a new one.

Dear Lord, the coordination... I don't think I could pull that shot.

He's too good. It's cheating. He'll be scoring 20+ until he's 36. Maybe even after.

He's so damn bloody good.

Beautiful goal, so well worked by everyone involved but the finish is perfect, took it so early.

The best forwards in Europe have scored about 10 goals so far. Ronaldo's on 20

Reminiscent of his goal against us a couple of years ago in the sense that he had no right to get there and no right to get that kind of contact on it, and at the same time you knew exactly what was going to happen to moment the ball was played. Ridiculous finish.

I know he would cost us a lot of money if we try to get him back here... but with him here we would piss the league. I can honestly see him still performing quite well for a few more years at least. He's so

The guy is just a freak.

If he carrys on his scoring rate and as someone above posted, scores 101 goals or even 80+

It go down as the best season any player has had in history and put a good argument for him to be the greatest of all time.

He's apparently scored more goals than a number of prominent clubs this year. There's a graphic floating around social media of who the clubs are.

He is already one of them, the greatest ever players, no matter how much crap his haters talk. THE best? I am not sure any one player can ever be called the undisputed best in football. There are so many different positions and styles of play and there have been so many unbelievable players over the years, it is actually not fair to call anyone The best.

Pretty sure Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs were all on it.
