You pay £35m these days for a 20 goal a season striker.

It's just october and he's about one game from hitting that target.

7 months to go and the games will start to come thicker too.

Insane, I think he could elevate himself above Messi's best at this rate.

Agree with everything you said. People often forget that Messi's incredible 50 goal tally in the league is very close to Ronaldo's 46 league tally. Ronaldo also has the CL record won in a similar manner of Messi(15 goals) vs Ronaldos 17.

A lot closer than the general perception has you believe. Hopefully we get to see some great end to this season with both of them chasing the others record.

Me and TheShedEnd are miles apart in our opinions of Ronaldo. I don't think he's as good as Di Stéfano, he doesn't think he's as good as Henry...

Do you think Messi is as good as Di Stefano though? Where would you put Messi and Ronaldo in your "top 20 of all time".

He has scored 13 league goals, more than 18 of 20 La Liga clubs. Talk about ridiculous stats...

If we splashed 100m on him this summer as a 30 year old, he'd probably still have another two seasons in which he scores at least 50 goals in IMO. Every player declines eventually but I can see him keeping his shape and fitness a lot longer then most because of how professional and determined he is. He'll probably be banging in 20-30 goals in when he's 35.

Basically what I'm saying, that if we did spend 100m on a 30 year old, he'd still probably go on to score another 150+ goals for us before he retired.

He just seems to be getting better, defies fecking belief. I'm actually enjoying him play too.. it is not even machine like, he's looking silky at the moment.

Amazing how he keeps delivering every season since he turned into a world class player in 2006/07!

He's not leaving until he takes the Real record, never been so sure of anything in my life.

What an amazing player. Woke up to him scoring another hattrick. Just the norm these days.

Not playing down cr7 unbelievable run of form, but it must help when your team hogged the majority of the TV rights revenue, signing players that are the best in the world in their position, against all the "poorer " teams in the league

If you look at their quality, Ronaldo-best player in the world
Bale- arguably the best winger in the world with robben
Modric- probably top 3 best midfielders in world right now
Benzema- one of best pure strikers around

Then you have the Iscos, Ramos, Marcelo, Rodriguez etc

When on form the other teams have no chance

And if you look at most of cr7 goals in the CL, the majority of his goals come against shit teams in the group stages

He definitely is a flat track bully

He's an all track bully. See his hat trick against Sweden.

Well, I guess Messi's shit too.

I don't like him but fecking hell, does this man ever stop scoring? Every season I think he can't keep this up again and he does it again.

I dont like him too, but he is one hell of a player.

Does anyone honestly think he will come back though?
Can't see it happening, and if he doesnt come next summer later than that could be, well, maybe too late.

He made it look fecking easy scoring goal. You look at his 2nd goal recently against Bilbao. It's 'just' a tap in. But then, he's in the position to tap in because he left 2 CBs behind him with his acceleration, checking on Bale to not getting offside, while still being close to the center of goal so he has more angle option to shoot.

As Lineker said, it's not as easy as it seems.

Surely the next Ballon d'Or is his, all these goals are going to make people forget about his terrible world cup.

I was wondering about this. Messi did win the player of the tournament though, and Argentina obviously made the final. It will be interesting.

It seemed like a fix to me. Messi won man of the match a couple of times when he clearly wasn't. The same as he clearly wasn't player of the tournament. He was extremely below par by his own high standards.

This. He scored decisive goals so hats off to him but he was desperately unfit, lacked energy and simply had a wonderful support cast to scrape through into the final. Every game they won was a 1 goal margin. They needed extra time to beat Switzerland and penalties to get past the Dutch. I don't wish to turn this into a Messi thread but I'm just supporting your point re; the falsehood of his World Cup performances and award.

Cristiano on 1 leg was still Portugal's best player and had to watch as the team crumbled and collapsed around him reminiscent of France in South Africa.

I remember in last years Classico Messi stole the show and Ronaldo was no where to be seen. He is scoring for fun right now but he will need to do more than just get on the end of things against weak opposition to beat Messi.

His stats this season are out of this world he really is an unbelievable goal scorer when he's given the chance to score. He rarely misses his finishing is just unbelievable right now.

His record in classicos is ridiculous now. He has scored 13 so far. Recently scored in 6 consecutive matches against them. Ronaldo not performing against barca has long been put to bed and he has been the match winner in a few aswell.

I feel his celebration there is the appropriate respons! Seriously though, his record against Barcelona is quite good.

 come on mate, that's extremely biased.

Argentina's defence was very good, plus Mascherano. But the rest? They were all borderline shit. AdM, Aguero, Higuain - non of them showed up.

Messi's contribution basically got them to the QF, where the defence helped get them to the final.

There's no need to twist what happened at the World Cup around. Messi was very good and shone at the World Cup. Ronaldo was shit.

Tbh Messi himself performance wise wasnt particularly good he just had moments in the early stages after that. They scraped through because of their defence.
He was very good by anyone else's standards. Statistically he was actually the tournaments best attacker. Crated the most chances too. It's messi, though, and he's set ridiculous standards for himself.
