That's the mad thing. He scored one hat trick here. One.

Even in his 42 goal season, one.

Almost five a season over five years is just mental.
182 goals in 168 league games is just mental.
260 goals in 253 total games is insane. To keep up scoring more goals than games played for five years is absurd.

He and Messi are just on a whole other level when it comes to putting the ball in the net, you'd struggle to do that on FIFA let alone in real life.

Instead of comparing them to each other and comparing them to past greats, we should all just revel in their ridiculous, record breaking feats because it won't last forever.

It's almost as if goals are the manner by which football matches are determined. Fancy passes/minute is not.

Ronaldo is up there in the greatest of all time tier, obviously between that top tier it's impossible to truly determine who's better but I believe that without Messi, Ronaldo would be considered the greatest of all time(cos he'd have won about 6/7 straight Ballon D'Ors) and vice versa for Messi.

If it was all about the goals then Eusébio would be considered up there with Maradona and Pelé, don't you think?

First, I certainly wouldn't dismiss anyone who put Eusebio in that company out of hand. Second, I never said it was only about goals. But scoring a goal a game for years in the modern era is a pretty decent start to establishing yourself in the GOAT conversation.

As Matherto says though, we should enjoy him and Messi as they are, in the context of their utter dominance of the most played sport in the world in the modern athletic era, not debate the unwinnable argument of present vs past. I say if you transplanted Ronaldo into 1960 he'd score 3 goals a game. The opposition say his legs would fall off. Then comes the argument about how the old greats would look with modern training. It Is pointless. Enjoy them all in their own times.

True but it means nothing, especially in this day and age, players can change their minds in days never mind over a year.
I'm not saying we will get him but i do think there is a chance.

Also to the people saying he would be 30 and they are not sure if they want him, he's arguably the best player in the world, even when he starts declining he will still be one of the best players in the world and probably in the top 10 biggest goal scorers for the next 5 years i'd wager.

He will break Raul's CL all time goal mark very soon.....only 3 off the pace (Messi is 4 off currently). I reckon both of them have a realistic chance of hitting 100 before they're finished.

Too old. Won't be able to produce for more than another couple of seasons. Looks to be deteriorating due to injuries. Can't hack it on a cold Wednesday night at the Britannia. Can't play in a midfield two. Needs to bulk up.

Do not want.

What would you prefer at the moment, a solid defence or Ronaldo?

If he wants to keep winning Ballon d'Or's he ought to stay in Madrid. The trophy is awarded on goals these days, and he looks like he's going to blitz Messi again in the scoring charts, who seems to have taken up a more selfless role (for the time being, remains to be seen how Suarez fits in there). He won't get that kind of luxury at Utd.

Ronaldo's taken on a more creative role this season. He's more involved in setting others up than before.

Where does he rank in an all time list? Ok he hasn't won the world cup but he is a multi time CL winner, Balon D'Or winner and has smashed so many goalscoring records as well as winning league titles. He has dominated football for about 6 or 7 years and isn't declining at all.

No he hasn't. He has 1 assist in 8 games, and off memory I can't think of a single goal created through his own individual brilliance, they're poacher type goals (or penalties).

In fact, look at his reaction to Bale's goal then the one he scored a few mins later. He's still a selfish git, though I imagine Real Madrid fans won't care if he's grabbing crucial goals.

He's a great player, but I also think that the Spanish league is poorer than people think. Apart from the two super clubs. Would he have scored those same goals over here? I certainly think he would have got his share, but not the numbers that he's had over there.

Ah. Cause assists are the yardstick.

What does that mean in bolded? So so easy to score goals, eh?

He was fantastic against Atletico Madrid from a deeper role than usual.

One of the greatest finishers of all time, right up there with Gerd Muller. In terms of his talent, he lacks the special x factor players like Maradona and Messi have. He doesn't do anything particularly amazing on the pitch, its his ridiculous goal record that's astonishing though.

Who was better, Inzaghi, Huntelaar or Ronaldo?

Literally every time Ronaldo does something good TheShedEnd comes in here discrediting him, it's hilarious  Today I learned that scoring 7 goals in 2 games, 12 goals in 8 games, 264 goals in 254 games is not doing amazing things on the pitch.

Against Basel he played out wide on the right also. His role in the team seems to change from match to match this season so far as Ancelotti seems to be changing around players and formations regularly, trying to find his best team. Once Ancelotti finds it and sticks with it I am sure Ronaldo's role will stop changing.
