Cristiano Ronaldo

I could see this happening in the summer. Madrid take Reus for half of what Ronaldo costs us.

Why? 4 years of Ronaldo scoring 40 odd a season would be perfect. Can't see Reus ever doing that.

1)Its highly doubtful that ronaldo will keep his scoring record when he is 30 plus.
2) Reus adds more balance to the team.
3) Reus is younger and will be at his peak for a longer time period.

Yeah right Ronnie, treated you so well except for that time you complained about being a slave here.

Probably looking for another contract upgrade. And no we wouldn't want you back when you are 34.

:lol::lol::lol:

Imagine the meltdown on here if he'd have said those things at the start of this window...

That's mental, Reus may offer a lot for his value, age etc, but this CR... there will be other's Reus's....

Will a 30 year ronaldo be at the same level as this ronaldo? A large part of his game is his finishing, pace and strength. He has cut all of his dribbling skills and passing from his game for the past five-seven years.

What happens when he loses that pace and power? Is it worth spending 60-70m to find out when we can have a younger alternative who is almost as good? I dont think so.

A 30 year old Ronaldo will be 6 months older than current Ronaldo. I don't think his legs will have fallen off. There is no younger alternative that is anywhere near as good, Reus included. When you get the opportunity to have one of the best players of all time (and a club legend) at the club, you take it.

Six months can make a difference, maybe not now in Ronaldo's case but one bad injury and you will soon see the effect it has on any player hitting their 30's. Add that to the fact he would still cost £60+ million and you can understand the concerns.
By the way, he's not a Club Legend, far from it, he will be remembered as a Real Madrid player.

I disagree totally - for me he is a United legend.

I don't think he considers real the pinnacle of the game or a step above United. He might but I've never directly head him say that. If I'm not wrong he was a Real supporter from childhood and always dreamed of playing there. It was a matter of when and not if he left for Real.

I thought this too, but apparently that isn't true, and in fact he preferred Barca as a youth. I may in fact be wrong in this, but it's what I recall seeing somewhere.

You're mental, Rues plays more central nowadays while Ronaldo still primarily still operates from the left. Not to mention that we could easily afford to sign both Rues and Ronaldo (Just saying) as Ronaldo's shirt sales will see his money returned instantly pretty much. 30 year old Ronaldo is also miles better than Rues..

He had 3 good seasons here, he is a Real Madrid legend, not Uniteds IMO. But yeah, I'd imagine most will see him as a legend because he is a very good player, I however think there is more to it than that.
The word legend is used so much these days that the word has become meaningless.

Oh we are only getting him for a one year loan? My bad.

So team balance= where a person operates from? gotcha.

I don't see this drop off you speak of happening in the next few years.. he has already defied logic, but you find it crazy he might again?

Where do you start...

I can't believe there are really people who think you just drop down a level as soon as you hit 30. Scholesy was 32 when he had arguably his best ever season with us for starters. Obviously your physical powers decline as you get older but it's bizarre that people think 30 is this magic number which signals the beginning of the decline.

When exactly did he defy logic?

Its bizarre to think that a person whose game is built around is pace, power and finishing is going to decline as he gets older? The 30 figure is just being used as thats the age he will be in the coming summer when we might sign him. Comparing him to scholes is downright idiotic.

A drop off can happen overnight, ask any professional football player and they can pinpoint a time in their career when they knew things were going South.
Ronaldo is starting to pick up injuries, something which he very rarely got in the past. It happens to all players, I'm not saying he's past it, off course he's not, but the huge fee he would demand for what you get in return, there are better (future) alternatives out there.
Saying that I'd have Ronaldo back in the morning, but he's the short term answer.

His pace might decline, at which point he'll only have insane movement, insane finishing, insane long shooting ability, insane power, and fantastic dribbling. Championship level. Even when his pace declines by 10/20% or so he'll be faster than 90% of defenders, and certainly faster than Drogba/Ibra/Rooney/RVP/plenty of other top level strikers.

Especially when you look after yourself like that beastly fecker does.

Depends on the player, I guess. Lampard was still fit as a fiddle at 34, for example.

It is subjective - my view is that he remains the best player I have seen play football, and although you could argue his peak years have been spent at Madrid, he grew and developed into this player while at United. As a fan, that to me is always more satisfying - seeing raw talent blossom into the best player in the world. He was also, in my opinion, a more exciting player back then, if maybe not always as consistently effective (bar his 42 goal season).

We also won pretty much everything as well...which helps!

"United have sold more than 350,000 Ronaldo shirts hours after the Portuguese revealed he would love to go back to Manchester in the future, sources have confirmed."

Seems about right.

Please tell me you're joking, pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee

As much as I love Ronnie, that ship has sailed now. Unless he comes in, in January what's the point? I suspect he'll play for us again but he'll be about 34 and be playing in Portugal, we'll loan him in like we did with Henrik Larsson and Arsenal did with Henry for 6 months. I very much doubt he'll get a transfer to us again though, we're not a charity.

He'll break Raul's goalscoring record. Winning the Club World Cup will mean he's won everything possible there.

I think there is something in this. I can see him moving purely for a new scenario which boosts his ego. Whether that's United or MLS that remains to be seen. Fergie's gone, and most of his team mates / friends at the club have moved on too. It's a completely different club to the one he left. Maybe an Henry esque loan from the MLS for a couple of months for sentiment reasons if he wants it. I don't think it's worthwhile for the club to pursue him anymore.

Fantasy Line up 2015/16 then

Anyone else find it cheeky that he thinks he can just waltz back to us when hes in his 30s, probably expecting a huge contract and to have the team built around him.
