Nonsense.

When you dunk you are targeting the rim, a stationary object. When you are heading, then you are targeting a moving object, which is much more difficult - particularly given you are trying to align striking the ball with the zenith of your jump.

Slam dunking a basketball during a game is much tougher than heading a football. Anybody with any kind of jumping ability would be able to get his head on a football from a corner kick with a few attempts.

Alley-oop dunks:

regular dunks(with object(ball) in hands at all times) while dodging defenders.

Ronaldo couldn't do any of these in his dreams.

LOL at "stationary object"

My favourite header will always be the one versus Roma;

Mostly for Scholes' pinpoint basketball-esque lob. I think he said it was one of his favourite goals too

:wenger: Is this even a debate? Ronaldo can't jump higher than top basketball players? Well feck me backwards and call me Wowmahs. Someone better inform Real Madrid that they've bought a dud.

What are you on about CantonaGiggs. A dunk is the single easiest shot in Basketball if you have the physical capability to dunk which most hyper fit 6ft plus people with good hops can do. Dunks are literally the highest % shot, and getting a ball in a hoop is a far easier conversion than heading a fast moving ball at a sprint. Ronaldo - if he had trained from birth to be a basketball player, wouldnt look out of place in the NBA at all as a hyper athletic PG in the Westbrook/Rose mould.

I'm sure he'll keep that in mind when he next applies for a job with an NBA team.

Were talking about slam dunking a ball vs. heading a ball. We are talking athletic ability(jumping).

Lebron James wouldn't be able to kick a 40 yard free kick like Ronaldo. but I am sure he would be able to head the ball.

Some of you can't look at this objectively because you are so over protective about football.

slam dunking a ball with nobody defending you is easy. Just like heading a football with no defenders on the pitch is easier. I am talking about in game situations. Slam dunking over someone face is much more difficult than heading a football. Some of those alley-oops(moving object, timing jump)in the video weren't even the best ones.

Dunking over someone(assuming you can physically do it), in a game which punishes hard contact, is far easier than judging the trajectory of a ball coming at great speed from a cross, then perfectly timing your jump, then directing the header with a couple inches of head - rather than the most dextrous part of the body, the hand. Thats why dunks(even contact dunks) are some of the highest %shots in basketball, whereas headers are actually pretty damn hard to score from. Just look at how rare goals are in football compared to Basketball for flips sake.

Poor Ronaldo can never have people just have a conversation about him. People always have to compare him to messi or basketballers it seems

alley oops are the comparable scenario to the exact circumstances you describe. also try actually dunking a basketball. you're jumping with a ball in both your hands, it's essentially a no hand jump like ronaldo's first jump where he only got 44cm, you don't get nearly as much power and leverage you would get from the thrusting force of the arms.

Most people(with enough athletic ability to dunk) can dunk one handed with practice. Its easier than dunking two handed. Im 100% sure Ronaldo could dunk with a little practice. High school point guards can manage it, for an athlete like Ronaldo it wouldn't even be a challenge.

He's got nothing on Lebron, therefore he is not the best in my eyes. Overrated!

Lebron will beat him to the ballon dor next year. Poor Ronaldo can never win it seems. He has to be humble, not dive and be more of a teamplayer like lebron.

Not dive like Lebron? Lol. He is Mr Flop.
I know you were being tongue in cheek but I like bringing up LeBron flopping when I can.

Not very good unfortunately, hasn't had a good game since 2003. Fans are genuinely starting to worry :nervous:

To stay on topic, Ronaldo's jump is ridiculous. I had the privilege to witness his goal against United live at the Bernabeu last year and still can't forget the image!

Yeah, yeah a Bayern fan at the Bernabeu. Took a lot of showers after!

I didn't know Bayern hated Madrid. Why? Ye always beat us, we gave ye robben and we never really took players from ye like we do other clubs. That's a surprise to me tbh. Must just be because there is kinda a European rivalry "la bestia negra".

I know many older Bayern fans don't like Real Madrid. I think Juanito might have had something to do with that.

Wow. Never seen that before. What an absolute cretin.
Nope. He got banned for 2 years a while before that for headbutting a linesman. The one on Matthäus got him a 5-year suspension but I don't think he served all of it, IIRC.

The comparison was being made between a dunk, and heading the ball. Alley Oops are of course more complicated, but that wasn't the argument. In fact, since you say an alley oop is the comparable scenario to heading the ball, then you are also saying both are more complicated than a simple dunk.

I have tried 'actually dunking a basketball' and do not find it difficult. Granted, an alley oop or anything that belongs in a dunk contest are much more difficult than a regular dunk! I would still say that some of Ronaldo's headers where he meets the ball at speed at the absolute apex of his jump is more difficult than a simple dunk.

That is nothing against basketball players, who I consider to be some of the most athletic athletes on the planet.

Didn't mean it to sound as I hate Madrid by the way, far from it. I've got huge respect for your club, although I don't like how it operates at times! Madrid - Bayern matches are arguably one of my favourite. My hatred is preserved for other clubs! I just wrote that last paragraph as I know some people who think it's weird to go watch other teams which you don't support.

And the incident with Juanito and Matthäus was shocking, but I just love how he stands up after it instead of rolling on the floor for ages!

From goal.com so could be rubbish, but hopefully it is true

Madrid boosted by Ronaldo return

The 29-year-old missed Wednesday's Copa del Rey final victory over Barcelona with a knee injury but is on course to make a swift recovery
Real Madrid have been boosted by the return of Cristiano Ronaldo to training ahead of their Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich.

The 29-year-old missed Wednesday's Copa del Rey final win over Barcelona with a knee injury and looked set to be absent for the first-leg of his side's last four European tie on Wednesday.

However, he could now be available for the clash with Pep Guardiola's side after coming through the first part of Sunday's training session.

Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti will also be encouraged by the participation of Marcelo, who emerged unscathed from the practice having been sidelined with a hamstring problem.

Copa del Rey hero Gareth Bale was also present following his match-winning heroics in midweek, while defender Sergio Ramos worked alone inside the club's training facility.

It's certainly true he's out of the gym and back training on the pitch with the team. Whether he's doing full sessions yet or is past the risk of re-injury stage is a different matter, but it sounds promising.

That's great then. With the weekend off, the momentum and confidence from beating barca and hopefully with Ronaldo fit and on form we look to be in good shape going into the Bayern match. I think this will be like the last match against them and be decided late in the second leg.

Didn't you know? White men cant jump.

We are talking about people which they grab the ball with one hand and not the normal joe who needs to grab the ball with both hands.

Never thought I'd sparkle this heated debate after posting that gif

A slam dunk at the high school level is fairly routine now. At the NBA level you see 3-4 slam dunks per quarter every game.

Goals scored off headers, while not unusual, are scored less frequently. Far less frequently.

Silly debate.
