Cristiano Ronaldo

With a one step run up he out jumped the average NBA power forward. To continue the comparison, Ronaldo is quite simply the footballing version of Lebron James. A rare combination of sheer talent and superior physique.

Yeah, I think the same thing too.

Muller's number's don't add up to Ronnies to even open that debate... And Pele, half of them were in school

That's what I'm saying.

Ronaldo is making every defence look like chumps. But then you have people like proud-lyon and brwned come in and belittle almost everything he does. It's astonishing.

The spring on this guy is sometimes comical. If he wasn't concerned about positioning, making contact with the ball & keeping balanced, he could probably jump so high he could stand on his marker's head. Superman.

Has Ronaldo already broken Müller's calender year record (85 goals in 60 games) this year? After all, it was a huge deal, when Messi broke it last year. Honest question, I don't know how many he has already this year and this season he's scoring a ridiculous amount, so maybe he has. Just wondering, why you said Müller's numbers don't add up to Ronnies at all.

Is this every game for club and country? If so he's got 68 goals. 37 scored this calendar year, last season. Currently on 31 for this season.

Nah it's just a cursory dismissal of anybody pre-modern era.

Yeah, I knew that, was just curious how many he has and thought he's closer if someone makes idiotic statements like that. Funny that he's still far far away actually.

Should win the ballon d'or now. Before the re-vote it was Messi 1st, Ronaldo 2nd and Ribery a way behind in 3rd. So I think Ronaldo and Messi will switch places, it will be nice to see someone else win it, though not really deserved imo.

Without being rude, if you listen to him, you deserve what you get  I don't take his views seriously on CR at least.

 I did expect you to come out in defense of Muller... I believe if we had this argument a week ago, I wouldn't be able to claim it but CR has surpassed his 85 in 60, but when I said Mullers numbers don't stand up, I'm talking over X amount of years as a career, this isn't an unusual season for CR...

Are you serious? Have you ever looked at Müller's career stats

I wouldn't go around talking down Gerd Müllers goal scoring record. That's not an argument you'll win. No matter what you compare it to, nothing good comes of it.

Where did I talk it down? Do pay attention.. if saying it's not 1 in 1 is talking it down, then I'm guilty.

Unless my info is wrong? Muller wasn't 1 for 1 at BM, whereas to date CR is better than 1 in 1 for RM
Yeah, but Müller started there as a young talent and left as an old man, that's hardly fair to compare to Ronaldo only playing during his peak for Real.

Müller for Bayern in all competitions during his peak:

68/69 37 goals in 35 games
69/70 42 in 38
70/71 39 in 47
71/72 50 in 48
72/73 67 in 49
73/74 43 in 48
74/75 30 in 43
75/76 35 in 34
76/77 48 in 37

That's 5 out of 8 seasons with more than 1 goal a game, overall 391 goals in 379 games, so over 8 seasons more than 1 goal a game on average. Add 68 goals in 62 games for Germany to that and you know something about consistency, when it comes to goalscoring. His record in the European cup for Bayern is 39 goals in 40 games, btw. How many seasons had Ronaldo with more than 1 goal a game in European competitions?

Well, someone could get the impression that you're talking down. Everyone who knows the numbers just believes you're embarrassing yourself. Ronaldo's numbers loose out on average, in total, in Europe, in international games. He's simply not there yet.

Point more than taken then, I should have looked into it a bit more, so what would be interesting then would be to pick the top 3 years he had as a player which domestically speaking (from your stats) would be 76/77, 72/73 and 69/70 which makes 157 goals in 124 giving him 1.267.

CR's best 3 years domestically was 2011/12 (46 in 38), 2010/11 (40 in 34) and this season so far 17 in 15 makes 103 in 87 giving him 1.184

Point in fact is he hasn't currently bettered him yet over a 3 year period just on scoring for club/per apps, in which case i was wrong and I apologize

Or an idiot? I wont engage you again, clearly saying something that is wrong is embarrasing myself and makes me an idiot?

The 'not even open up a debate' comment was what's really ridiculous. Ronaldo is really really close and even if he's slightly ahead, it's still worth a debate. You made it sound like Ronaldo had blown Müller out of the water.

I already edited the idiot part, because it was a bit harsh, didn't mean it that way, sry.

I just don't get the need to big up Ronaldo even further when he's already incredible. Why not just enjoy the ride, but everytime he does someting that few others have done before, someone needs to point out wrongly that it hasn't been done at all and ridicules what former greats have achieved in their career. That's just sad, when you actually enjoyed watching these former players just as much as people are enjoying watching Ronaldo now. It's fecking incredible anyway, it isn't less amazing just because it happened before.

It is going to be worse during the WC. Heaven forbid, Argentina and Portugal end up facing each other in QFs as it looks now.

Müller was a sensational goal poacher, arguably the best goal poacher in the history of the game. But C. Ronaldo is much more than just a goal poacher. Ffs, he isn't even a centre forward. To get more than a goal per game while not playing as a goal poacher is more than sensational. I do not think that it's up for debate who is the greater player out of the two.

I think you have to add dedication in there - in fact its probably his biggest attribute. Same with almost any player at the top level (regardless of sport).

Look at everyone slating the defending of Spurs in the PL thread right now. Imagine how different it would be if Ronaldo scored those goals

You've even got pictures of him jumping now! I posted a similar picture which appears to show Andy Carroll 10 feet in the air but it didn't get the same recognition! He's utterly brilliant, but I think people are taking the piss a bit now.

 Almost everyone is admitting that Suarez is the best player in the league right now. It is actually you, who always pops to disregard every other Ronaldo (or Bale nowdays) goal due to poor defending or some other excuse.

Officially opened his own museum today:
Cristiano Ronaldo: Real Madrid man opens museum in his honour
Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has opened a museum in his honour, which he said has extra room to be filled by future trophies.
Ronaldo, 28, is currently on the three-man shortlist to be named theBallon d'Or winner for a second time.

"It's a special day, I don't want to mention specific ones" he said. "All I want is to win more and if the Ballon d'Or comes, there is extra room here."
The museum in his native Madeira exhibits more than 125 awards.
Ronaldo won the prestigious 2008 Ballon d'Or title, formerly known as the Fifa World Player of the year title, while with Manchester United.
Before his six-year spell at Old Trafford ended with a then-world record £80m transfer to Real Madrid in 2009, he won three Premier Leagues, one Champions League, one FA Cup, two League Cups and one Fifa Club World Cup.
His success has continued in Spain, where he won the Copa del Rey in 2010-11 and La Liga in 2011-12 under now Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.
The Portugal international opened his museum, which occupies the ground floor of a five-storey building, in front of a frenzy of reporters and fans.
"Here is the evidence of what I have won, no one will take it away from here and these were things I wanted to share with my fans, show them what I have already achieved," he said speaking from the island which is approximately 250 miles off the southern coast of Portugal.
The first piece on display dates back to when Ronaldo was eight and top-scored in a tournament with his boyhood club Andorinha. It also contains mementos from his senior playing career, including two Golden Boot awards won for being European football's top scorer.
Ronaldo is competing with Barcelona forward Lionel Messi and Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery to be named the 2013 Ballon d'Or recipient, with the winner to be revealed at a ceremony in Zurich on 13 January.

I think you are taking the piss. If you can show 10 pictures of Andy Carroll doing that, then we'll have a proper discussion. If Andy Carroll beats Walcott to the ball once, is he the fastest player on earth as well?

Anyone see his video message to Sir Alex on BBC's Sport Personality show? 'Hi boss. You were a father figure to me'.

Fergie shit himself then, he thought Lineker was going to bring Keane on or something.

Ronaldo asked him to keep in touch? Fergie still works for the club so that means he wants to come back.

He's basically built a place where he can go and wank over himself.

Interestingly I think the most significant pieces of memorabilia in this "museum" will be from his United days rather than his Madrid days, despite the sheer volume of goals he's scored for them.

The picture of Carroll you posted is far less impressive than Ronaldo's leap tbh.
