Oooooh Di Stefano would say otherwise. I haven't had the fortune of seeing much footage of him, nor many on this forum, but his record is incredible.

Players & athletes get better and better as time progress. I have no doubt Di Stefano was the best Real Madrid player during his time, but if you compare all eras, Cristiano Ronaldo is no doubt the greatest ever. It's like comparing a 100m record holder who ran 10.0 seconds in the 50s, and Usain Bolt who now runs 9.58 seconds. Both were fantastic during their times, but Bolt's time is better.

Aye but that's why you take context into these things. It's why Jesse Owens will be regarded as a better athlete than most modern sprinters despite them having faster times.

Yes, but at the end of the day the record was broken. 50 or 100 years from now, there will probably be new stars who will be better than Messi or Ronaldo.

What exactly is your point? I'm not sure I get it and how it relates to football in any way.

Are you saying that Ronaldo is a better athlete than Di Stefano? If so, why does it matter?

Not sure what you mean here, I know there will.

I was just saying that the fact Di Stefano wouldn't be as dominant in the current game isn't a reason to put him behind Ronaldo, you look at these things in context and how they performed at the time.

Disagree with that line of thought. You have to compare the players taking into account the differencing circumstances.

Players tend not to run just in straight lines. How about pitches, sports equipment and the game being a non contact sport? Different eras.

Di Stefano (86) married his 36 year old nurse/girlfriend this year. Lets see if Ronaldo can match that.

I imagine Di Stefano wouldn't. He never has been one for tooting his own horn.

Well with a wife who's 50 years younger, he wouldn't have to.
Sorry Snow - I couldn't stop myself hitting the reply
