Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo on song made me remember how it felt to watch George Best. I cant remember him sulking as some people do. Im sure he did but the memories of Ronaldo at Utd for me are all of his brilliance. George Best is my all time hero, has been since I got to see him play live. I know he did all sorts of daft shit with respect to how he treated the club at times but I simply cant remember those things, I just remember the brilliance. I guess I have selectively erased the bad shit from my memory for those two players. The only player that I think I really really hate who used to play for us is Tevez. There are probably others but none come to mind right now.

What?

George Best point blank refused to play, you even had the great man having to admit they didnt even know where the feck he was on a match day when he was named in the team.He was off shagging a model.

As I said before in this thread, in my view hes the best to ever play the game, and is very much a legend of the club, but he treated this club far, far worse than ronnie or rooney for that matter.

Time dulls the bad, so all we will remember is the good, which is why both ronaldo and rooney will be remembered as club legends.

You really believe this?

It shouldn't be. I intentionally said said "best" rather than 'greatest' for that reason. There'll have been greater United players but I think you'll struggle to find a better player.

I know what you said, I just don't agree. There are several other players in United's history who can lay claim to that title. World Cup and Ballon d'Or winner Bobby Charlton being one of them. George Best another. It's notoriously difficult to compare players in different positions, and across the decades, obviously.

The most simplistic approach is to state that football in general is at its most advantaged stage constantly - so that a player who is at his peak in 2013 is by default better than one who was at his peak thirty years earlier. I personally don't buy this, though. It's far too simple. By implication this view entails that Ashley Young is a superior player to Stanley Matthews.

Err, no, that's not right even by the most simplistic definition. It doesn't take into account any player's relative individual ability. You may as well say I'm better than Stanley Matthews. Which I am, but that's another discussion altogether.

I always love the old, there is a press conference in X hours revealing something tweets/news reports.

Marca are saying he's extended his contract until 2018

You have either misunderstood my post completely - or I yours. The simplicity of it, which fails to take into account individual differences (and historical limitations and a number of other factors) is precisely what I have an issue with.

Where are the reports of this press conference coming from?

Can't say I'll be surprised if we hear he's signing a new deal.

How are working with Ancelotti?

We are very happy with the coach. The workouts are very good. We are working to start the season in the best way. Carlo is a very loving and excites us all.

In the final of the Champions Cup Guinness will face Mourinho's Chelsea. Do you motivated to face his former coach after all the problems that occurred in the locker room with him?

Let's face Chelsea, but it's one more game. We face the Chelsea, not the coach. We want to win.

Is it true that it is refurbished?

Still not resolved this situation and I do not talk about it because it is not the right time. Later maybe going to know something more concrete, but now I just train and work responsibility.

What does it take for you fiche for MLS team?

I'm still young to come and play in MLS, but I did not close the door on anything. The future only God knows. For now I'm happy in Europe, then we'll see.

Have you started very strong. What goals mark this season?

Every season is a challenge for me. I know it will be difficult, but I am a person of challenges and I'll try to work and help my teammates. I'm a fighter and always give everything my team and with the selection.

What do you think the signing of Bale and the money goes to pay for it?

These issues new players do not talk about that responsibility. I am very happy with the players I have on the computer. To talk about the numbers say is the coach and the president. I have my opinion, but I'm not going to say to the cameras.

Mourinho has said that the real is the Brazilian Ronaldo. What do you think?

There are things in life that deserve comment. This is something that I will not comment for obvious reasons. I always respect my coaches and try to learn from them. In Portugal they say: "I do not spit on the plate as". That's it. I'd rather stay with the positives.

What do you think the new signings?

To be honest the signings that Madrid has made are very good, are players going to contribute a lot. The three that are there are very good and certainly will help us a lot.

What do you think of Barcelona?

I just fixed my team, my teammates. I just want to score goals, do well with my team and not think nothing's Barcelona.

What will you do to improve your stats set pieces?

Do you know the statistics? As discussed by themselves, but I'll try to improve in all aspects, not only in that.

What is in your new position?

It is different coach, is a new position, but I like it. It is a great time to try new positions, for me is good. Carlo gives me the opportunity to play wherever and I feel comfortable.

What is the contribution of Zidane?

Zidane is a good influence especially for young people and is very good to have you with us

What differences do you see between this stage and the previous one?

I see very positive things.
The signings are very good, the manager is a very simple and very affectionate with everyone.
The signings are known worldwide, because they are Spanish and know the league.
They have already shown in preseason that are very good for Madrid.
We are all happy.

Does the question on a "new position" mean that he's being moved to the right, or maybe centrally, to accommodate Bale on the left?

You really believe this?

Absolutely.

Pele and Maradona had a bigger impact and better careers , for several reasons, not least where they were born , but George Best was better at football than either.

The Cruyff thing sums it up for me, only George Best would do it. Pele wouldn't, as egotistical as he is, even Maradona wouldnt, neither would messi or ronaldo for that matter. And lets not forget, when he announced to a reporter before an international match he would nutmeg Cruyff, the Dutchman had just been voted world player of the year, they were perhaps the best side in the world at the time, and George Best was unfit and probably half drunk.
And yet he went onto the pitch, got the ball, went sideways across the pitch to the other wing (dribbling past 2 players as he went), just so he could get to where Cruyff was, and then he nutmegged him.

That was the man in decline. And he did it just because he could. Put Best in the England or Brazil squads of the 1966 - 1970 era and no one would question him being the best ever.

The Oracle has once again spoken:

Irwin: Ronaldo could return to United

Manchester United legend Denis Irwin believes Real Madrid's move forGareth Balecould spark a transfer merry-go-round which would seeCristiano Ronaldoreturn to Old Trafford this summer.

Ronaldo has long been linked with a move back to United, and the speculation has only mounted with Madrid determined to sign Bale from Tottenham.
United ambassador Irwin has questioned whether the Spanish club can accommodate both players on their wage bill - something he feels could work in his former team's favour.
"So Manchester United have been linked for a second time this summer with a return to Old Trafford for Cristiano Ronaldo," Irwin wrote in his column for Ireland's Sunday World newspaper.

"Of course it could happen, but I believe the speculation may be sparked by the ever-clearer indications that Gareth Bale is on the way from Spurs to Real Madrid.
"Can Real Madrid, rich and all as they are, afford to buy and then pay that brilliant pair of players? If the answer is yes, then Madrid see them as their answer to the [Lionel] Messi and Neymar duo at Barcelona. If the answer is no, then Ronaldo will be allowed leave, and Manchester United is an obvious destination."

But Irwin insists Cesc Fabregas remains manager David Moyes' main target and will "move heaven and earth" to sign the Barcelona midfielder ahead of the new season.
"United want to get Cesc Fabregas before the transfer window closes and preferably before the season starts on Saturday week," he wrote. "Also, they want to keep rather than sell Wayne Rooney.

"I'd say those two deals are the most important bits of business in the in-tray of the bosses at United. If those two players are at the club next season, then it would be a fine summer."

http://www1.skysports.com/football/...-real-madrid-future-still-hasnt-been-resolved

Cristiano Ronaldo's future at Real Madrid remains unclear, after the forward refused to confirm reports from Spain that he has agreed a new five-year contract with the club.

Marca has reported that the Portuguese has tied down his future at the Bernabeu until 2018, increasing his salary to 17million euros (£14.8million) per year after tax and negotiating a new arrangement over the sale of his image rights in the process.
Ronaldo has two years to run on his deal at Madrid, who paid a world record £80million fee to prise him away from Manchester United in 2009, but has courted speculation over his future by revealing that he misses English football. United have subsequently been heavily linked with the player.

Ronaldo said: "I'm not going to confirm anything - I'm just going to do my job like I always do.
"My future - I don't know. At this moment I'm a player of Madrid, the future, I really don't know.
"Let's see what's going to happen - but for the moment, I'm good where I am."
He also gave little away about his thoughts on Madrid's pursuit of the Tottenham star, who is expected to break the record Ronaldo set for being the most expensive player in the world.
Madrid are believed to be ready to pay £95m for Gareth Bale but Ronaldo added: "I'm not going to speak about that because I'm not the right person to say if he deserves that money - if it's a good deal or not.
"I'm happy here - I think the players I have beside me, they are great - I'm not going to speak about other players."
Ronaldo is in Los Angeles with the Madrid squad for their tour of the USA.

Ancelotti's side have won both games they have played in the United States so far this summer, against LA Galaxy and Everton respectively in the Guinness Champions Cup.

On Wednesday they will face Chelsea in the final of the tournament, a match which pits Blues manager Jose Mourinho against his old club, a little more than two months after he and Madrid parted ways.
Mourinho gave an interview to ESPN at the weekend, in which he declared: "Madrid is politics. Madrid is not about football, Madrid is not about sport."
He also belittled his compatriot Ronaldo, by declaring that "the real Ronaldo" was the former Brazil, AC Milan, Real Madrid and Barcelona forward, with whom he worked during his period as a translator and assistant coach at Barcelona between 1996 and 1997.
Asked what he had made of his former coach's comments, Ronaldo responded: "There are some things in life that don't deserve any mention. This is one of those things and I won't comment on it for obvious reasons. I always respect my coaches and try to learn from them.
As we say in Portugal: 'I don't spit on the plate I eat on.' That's how I feel. I prefer to try and remember the positive side [to Mourinho]."
And Ronaldo denied that Madrid will be desperate to get one over their former boss when they meet Chelsea in Miami.
He declared: "We are facing Chelsea, not their coach. Athough it's like any other game, we want to win."

I would love him to come and finish his career here, but could we really afford a "new deal" crisis every few years?

He is an astute business man and it seems he has been flirting with us in order to force RM's hand.

He was a childhood Benfica fan wasn't he? I remember reading that somewhere.

He was. As for him supposedly supporting Real Madrid, he said in an interview on ITV in the build up to the 2008 Champions League final, that the first Champions League final he watched was Milan versus Juventus in 2003. Now considering Madrid played and won the finals of 1998,2000 and 2002(and bearing in mind he was a teenager for all of those finals), if he really was a Madrid fan, he's surely have watched those games.

I think you can debate Best being the most talented ever, but achievements figure into who the actual best player is personally. The others you mention outstrip Best for me even at club level. Nutmegging Cruyff just shows he has skill, not that he is a better player. Could he dominate from all over the pitch and organise a team of great players like Cruyff did with Ajax and Holland? They all have different strengths and merits, personally I feel it is hard to pick the best player ever it comes down to preference.

The one thing I take with me from this horrible summer is the joy of Google translate.

Ronaldo has signed new contract with Real (€17m net per year + 70% image rights).

According to Marca that is..............

Course he has, as if Real Madrid would ever approve his departure? They would be seen as weak, losing the one superstar they have. Signing Bale is just a riposte to the Neymar deal, not a signal Ronaldo is leaving. Everything Real or Barca do has something to do with the other.

It is on....

"Yo tengo mi opinión, pero no lo voy a decir dentro de las cámaras."

The whole interview is anything but convincing.

Ronaldo said he was happy in Manchester in 2009....its on
