Really?
I've heard from lots of folks (non United fans) who saw Best play say that he's the best player they have seen. Of course, in a poll right now Messi would win - but that's no surprise.. who of more recent generations will have seen much of Best apart from United fans?

I think there's lots who have rated Best incredibly high, United fans and not.. but media is a far greater tool now, people from all over the world can see every game that Messi plays. Nowhere near as many people will be interested in watching old videos of a player, and back then not as many would have seen him as people have seen Messi now.
This will make no sense at all and I cant even make head or tail of it... I saw Best play and for me on a personal level he was the best player ever. However I have no argument with all those who think Maradonna, Pele or Messi were/is better than Best. I cant come up with a decent set of points to "prove" Best was better, its just that in my head he was.

I'm not sure if I'd call Ronaldo a legend, but I'd have to be a fool to not want him back. What a player he was for us.

It isn't that exciting. He was in the newbies under the name addernoire, was banned, came back as Proud_Lyon and was undiscovered for a few months. Earned a lot of rep points and was close to being promoted before being found out. His rep was then put in the minus figures (think he was on 126 points and it was changed to -126). He then earned more rep points and eventually was promoted.

Thanks for the info!

I have a stupid question, so please forgive me. When I was promoted I saw that the newbie board completely disappeared on the main menu. I'd like to check it out from time to time. Where do I find it? Thanks!

You can't unless you're either a newbie, scout or modmin.

He got the easy way to the mains..

I remember him ripping the jacket out of Albert the kit man's hand when he held it out for him, just because he was pissed off at being subbed. Thought it lacked real class IMO. He was up to his antics all the time with his comments, angling for the move, not as bad as Tevez but still at it. We've forgotten it though as we remember the good stuff more and want him back so bad.

And yet it appears he remains on good terms with all connected at the club.

Seeing a 90 minute match once a week does not give you an insight into how a player acts while he is at a club. By all accounts (from players, staff and SAF himself) Ronaldo was well liked and very well respected within the club.

Will put more stock on these opinions that seeing him being frustrated for being subbed.

If Ronaldo was to come home, how would we play him with RVP on-board? Fluid front 3; with Ronnie cutting in from either the right or left as in the past?

I'll go to my grave thinking George Best was the best footballer who ever played the game. Bar none. He did things with a football, a heavy leather one on pitches that often resembled ploughed fields at that, that no one, not Pele, not Garrincha , no on else ever did.

He didnt have the greatest career, that would be Pele or Maradona, or perhaps even the current two when they are done, but George Best was a better footballer than any of them. That a half pissed, unfit Best in the twilight of his career publicly took the piss out of the then worlds best player Cruyff as he did speaks volumes.

Even with his club career cut short, I think had Best been born in Brazil or England and been part of either of those international teams in the 60's and early 70's, no one would question whether he was the best ever or not.

He won't come back, not now, anyway.

For Madrid to sell their best player would be suicidal. They're going after Bale because they want to add quality, not because they want to replace Ronaldo with him, that's just plain stupid.

Not going to happen.

They dont want to sell, Perez has been very clear about it. Just that the contract situation doesnt leave it upto them entirely. Too valuable an asset to rik letting leave on a free transfer. As it is, either he signs a new contract or they flog him to the highest bidder.

i said it before, but the way he flirted with madrid for years, threw those tantrums in his last season, said he was staying before flying off to sign for madrid days later. It reminds me of a guy who goes behind his birds back, treats her like shit yet she continues to go back and fawn over him!

I've said it before, comparing Ronaldo to an ex got boring and unoriginal a long time ago.

Yeah the Ronaldo fanboyism after he left for Real is strange.

He acted the cnut while he was here so in my book he lost every chance at going down a OT legend. Merely a wonderful footballer, and not someone who's easy to taking a liking to.

I could understand if he stayed till he was 27 and then was forced out of the club by SAF or something crazy like that, but it's a guy who basically sulked his way to Madrid. And I've not forgotten it. He's not a United hero, never will be. He's no Scholes. No Giggs. Not even a Keano.

I had no idea that Proud_Lyon was addernoire - not a clue!

Because he has a 12 inch cock and an 8 inch tongue, is a millionaire, a raconteur, and a handsome bastard.
Fixed.

Wow, it's 2010 again. And it was awkwardly RAWKish back then too.

You're free to tell me why I'm wrong. And if you're accusing me of being a scouser I find that grossly offensive, they're worse with their constant wanking over Benitez, and now Suarez despite the fact he's acted like a prick, caused their club mountains of bad publicity and now publicly declared he wants out.

He appears very happy in Madrid and playing with the team on the US tour. Not a chance that he is even thinking of leaving

He's no Scholes or Giggs, but who is?

The reasons people are OK with how he left are because he had a genuine life-long dream to go to Madrid, he stayed an extra season, he kept performing all season despite it all, and when he did go he did it in such a way that we could keep on top of it and get a frankly preposterous fee for him, which is still a worlds record 5 years later. OK, he came across as sulky, spoilt and petulant, but that's his whole demeanour - it's why a lot of opposition fans hated him while he was with us. He got the job done, to an incredible level, and he clearly had and still has a massive place for United in his heart.

United fans are incredibly precious about who they allow into the 'legends' category. For me, Suarez-level cuntery aside, it's about what they do on the pitch. They're human beings, employed as footballers, playing football. I don't really care if we're not their dream club.

I'm fully aware that Law left for City, which to be fair was his first club in Manchester. He spent his peak years at United scoring goals for fun, and never said a bad word about the club.

As for George Best, he also gave every part of his peak years to United. If he had taken care of his body he would've stayed at the club for more years as well.

None of them compare to Ronaldo, who basically spent the best part of a season sulking around on the pitch, and the best part of the four summers before that agitating for a move to Spain. He also let United develop him to the player he is today, then fecked off as soon as he was the finished product.

You're spouting absolute bollocks. Ronaldo made Ronaldo the player he is, through his unbelievable dedication to improving himself and his fitness. He would have become this good at any top flight club. His last season with us produced how many goals and assists? Not bad for sulking, I'd say. That man carried our team for about 3 years and was a pleasure to watch for the rest of the time.

Club Legend. Up there with the best players to have ever pulled on the shirt.
