Cristiano Ronaldo

So let's forget about likelihood of it happening for a second and say we did bring him back. Who would miss out?

Would Nani be off?
Would it spell the end for Hernandez and/or Welbeck with Rooney, RVP and Ronaldo ahead of him (lol)
Would Rooney be a goner with position and wages taken into account?

With an unlikely old of playing 4-4-2 would we find it hard to accommodate Valencia?

Would Fergie say feck it, I'm nearly finished might as well go out with a bang and play one of the most ridiculously talented attacks ever with Rooney, Ronaldo, RVP, Kagawa, Nani and Valencia Nd continue to forget that we have half way line?

Watching chants of 'Viva Ronaldo' and his performances in our shirt it has reminded me of how everything was so good when he had him, some great memories. We are not so bad right not but Uniteds Ronaldo? Teams used to surrender in the tunnel.

Proove it that it's not about the money Ronnie! Buy out the remainder of your contract, and take a wage cut to join us :D

Unrealism aside, this is turning out to being a very interesting saga. January will be filled with "CITY TABLE £120M BID FOR RONALDO", and "ROONEY IN SWAP DEAL SHOCKER FOR RONALDO".

If he were to move I doubt he would go to City or PSG. Any other club but those two I just dont think he would.

But Ronaldo is more concerned about respect, affection and recognition as opposed to an improved contract. The player does not feel he has the backing of the club, his teammates or the fans. At least, not the way believes he deserves.

He is disappointed with Real Madrid because of its lack of support as a club in his quest for the UEFA Best Player in Europe Award and also because of other small details that other clubs do for their star players which he does not have. He also feels frustrated with Real's system of selecting a captain, which is based on the time the players spend at the club.

You can't really blame him for some of this.

Madrid and their fans clearly fall over the Spanish players before him and perhaps Benzema's strength in the club is growing as well. It's widely known that Ronaldo and Casillas do not get on.

The man scored 60 goals and drags them through games with hat tricks. I'd be a bit frusturated too.

Perhaps politics in the dressing room is beginning to fracture them.

Apparently, the deal was that he would sign back with MUFC this summer, but Madrid bailed on that agreement. He was led to believe that talks were ongoing with MUFC, but with the end of the transfer window he realized it was all smoke and mirrors.

Some time ago, the spanish media reported former president Calderon claiming that Jorge Mendes is running Madrid (he is the agent of Mourinho, Ronaldo, De Maria, Contentrau and Pepe) and not Florentino Perez. This gave a small insight about the internal politics within the club.

Then there is the economic crisis in Spain. Real Madrid's bankers - Bankia are not immune and neither real are. They were hardly hit by the collapse of real estate prices. And if m not wrong even Perez's business is heavily dependent on real estate.

I'm sorry, does Ronaldo want to be captain?:lol:

You can just imagine the inspirational leader he'd be, strolling round the pitch after losing the ball, throwing a little tantrum as he does.

I find United fans still pining after him after everything to be pathetic.

Do not want.

Yes, he's a drama queen. A bastard. Greedy. Attention seeking. But who gives a feck?

Bring the lad back home!

I forgot... when's his contract up for renewal then?

Current deal expires in 2015. 2 seasons from now. Madrid procrastinate and 2 years from now a 30 year old Ronaldo walks out on them for free and goes wherever the hell he wants. 30 years old...still got at least 2 prime years left and with his commitment and athleticism you'd back Ronaldo to stay at the top for as long as say Figo and Zidane did. If Marca are right and Ronaldo said to Florentino at the weekend that he wants out then Madrid don't have many bargaining chips.

If he doesn't sign a new contract this season, he could be sold next summer. Will be interesting to see how much he'd fetch with a year left on his contract.

I wonder if he didn't kick up this fuss during the transfer window in case Real called his bluff & quietly offered him to the free-spending clubs.

Yeah but it'd still be up to him, such is player power. Thing is, I suspect he'd love to be back, but there'sno chance we'd be able to afford his fee and salary. Now, if he came on a free....

Well if we signed Van Persie for upwards of £20m at 29 years old and with less than a year on his contract I can't see Ronaldo going for any less. If Madrid give up the ghost and try to sell they'll want to start a bidding war and if Ronaldo isn't fussed about where he goes they'll play on the fact that most clubs in the world won't be willing to gamble that someone won't jump the line and get ahead of them in the race for his signature. If Ronaldo leaves at the end of this year it will be for a monumental fee.

Chelsea and City being the only clubs rich enough to afford him. If I were him, I'd hold out till the end of the contract, and hope we pay him a massive signing on fee.

Well if Ronaldo is serious, as you say, he can make it happen. All it takes is a clear indication from Gill and Sir Alex that we want to make it happen and Cristiano can then simply kick his heels and insist he will only join Man Utd.

Madrid have no leverage. Ronaldo knows they need him to compete with Barcelona so he can't be dropped and Ronaldo also knows he only has 2 years left on his contract.

Its not beyond the realm of possibility that if Sir Alex comes out strong and says "I want him back" (something he has basically said numerous times in the past) that United can make this happen. If what Ronaldo really wants is adulation and support he will instinctively turn to Fergie as he has said numerous times that Sir Alex is like a father to him and he loves how the United crowd adore him.

This can happen.

If the sugar daddy clubs start a bidding war I doubt that we'll sell him for less than he came for.

Is this a bit of fun optimism or do people actually think this could happen?

I wouldn't be surprised if SAF has prepared for such an eventuality. And the (somewhat remote) possibility of Fabregas being available.

You have to allow for interest in an NPV calculation.

the interest in NPV calculation is the rate you can get in the market of a similar risk profile investment.

Ronnie's would be 0 because he is more risk-free than even gilts or american treasury paper. Governments can melt down and central banks can blow up.

Ronnie will always be Ronnie

You mean like numerous times at Utd when he was given the armband?

After the trickle of talent from Premier league to la liga, Fergie is going to strike back with a ronnie-fabregas double raid next summer.

150 million quid. 6 year contracts for both. :D

DDG
Rafael
Smalling
Vidic
Evra
Carrick
Fabregas
Kagawa
Ronnie
Valencia
RvP

Bench: Linders, Giggs, Scholes, Rio, Young, Welbz, Clevz

Sold: Rooney, Nani, Anderson

So when is the Sun coming out with this? Or Dailymail?

If FFP comes to fruition - we would actually be one of the few clubs that could afford him in 2014.

Scholes is retiring after this season :( I guess we'll need to sign Schweiny to replace him on the bench!

Firstly, name some times. I don't remember one. I always remember him coming out the tunnel last. Second of all, he was never made permanent captain. Filling in as temporary captain is different to being named captain on a permanent basis.

If I may butt in here for a second - I believe he captained us against Bolton at Old Trafford one time. I remember since he scored 2 goals that night - one was a stunning freekick.

Edit: There you go
