Cristiano Ronaldo

You are basing your impression of what Ronaldo is like as a team mate based on the 90 minutes you see each week. What fans don't see is the vast majority of the time players spend together in training etc. I don't remember hearing any negative comments about Ronaldo from his United team mates - players like Rio still obviously keep in touch with him - as does SAF.

Judging players reactions during a match is probably not an accurate representation of how they are as team mates.

90 minutes each week for 5-6 years. The same thing can be said about any player if that is your criteria. Players don't come out and speak on teammates like that, it has never been the way. His comments along with his behaviour on the pitch where disrespectful at the time. That is what we get to see as fans, it doesn't stop us gaining a decent idea of what they are like. How often do you her negative comments from teammates. He was a great player here, so he is looked upon favourably by teammates and fans. My point was I just find it funny that the same people who are in the Ronaldo thread saying he should come back can be found in the Rooney thread calling him disrespectful, greedy etc. Ronaldo has shown the same characteristics during his time here.

Good Lord!! Lack of support he received at the Ballon D'Or. He got trounced by Messi for the 4th consecutive time. Whether he had support or not is totally irrelevant. Rooney is only a bigger cnut, because he has never scored 42 goals in a season, never won the Ballon D'Or etc etc etc. I think the fact that he was born in Merseyside may go against him in this argument. For me, they are both the same. Or, playing it your way, then Ronaldo is worse than Rooney because he hasn't done it with one club, but is currently doing with Real Madrid too.
Did Rooney not play for somebody before signing for Man United? How do the fans of that club feel about that departure?

The way Ronaldo is treating Real Madrid is exactly the same as what Roney did with us. He is holding them to ransom to get what he wants. So, just because he is a better player than Rooney, that doesn't give him more rights to treat clubs as he does.

It's not. Rooney has support at all times from us, since he signed he's been constant cheer, his chant being song numerous times each game, idolised by fans, even when England trying to shame and scar him, we were the ones always backing him up. Until he started being a dick and held the club to get his new deal, even threatening to play for City(!!!). Then after getting his sweet new deal, after saying we weren't ambitious enough or had quality required, you would think that he knows better. Now he's putting transfer request and putting up shit AGAIN.

Ronaldo received constant abuse in Spain, support gained strenght not long ago, was booed by Madrid fans even with that ridiculous form of his. This guys is ace. Always respectful to United, never badmouthing Real even when things weren't going his way. Real is now reaching to Ronaldo like he's the most important player in the team, but behaved very different until not long ago.

Those are not the same situations. And are extremely different postures from both of them.

Manchester United warning to fans: Don't waste cash trying to 'buy' Ronaldo online
United have warned fans against donating to an internet-based campaign aimed at bringing Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford.
A group of Australian Reds have launched a drive to raise the funds needed to sign the 28-year-old Portuguese superstar, who is currently at Real Madrid.
In what many would see as an optimistic move, they believe the ‘BringRonaldoHome’ movement, which sees supporters deposit initial donations of £10 can hit the reported £100m buyout clause in the winger’s contract.
Since it’s launch last month the campaign claims to have had 5,019 pledges – but United have warned fans against backing the campaign.
A spokesman told the M.E.N.: “Manchester United would like to remind fans that decisions over additions to the squad will be made by the manager and the manager alone. We would not want any of our supporters to be under a false impression that anything other than this would ever be the case.”
The group, fronted by Stockport ex-pat Lee Clough, say the £10 deposits will, if the bid is successful, eventually be exchanged for a new United shirt with Ronaldo’s name and number on the back. When asked, that being the case, where the money to sign the player would actually come from Mr Clough, who is hoping to draw on the resources of the club’s 650m worldwide followers, said the group could ‘not reveal our strategy in full’.
He added that the success of the campaign was dependent upon kit manufacturers Nike and Manchester United, adding that the 'bulk of the funds raised will go to the club and CR7’s (Ronaldo's) transfer fee’.
Mr Clough also promised that if the bid failed, fans would receive their £10 deposits back in full, adding that plans to charge an admin fee had been dropped and denied claims that the ‘crowd funding’ system was a scam. He said: “We are a good group of people who have put an amazing amount of effort into this project.
“The model is based off a tried and successful business model of crowd-funding.
“We have contacted Manchester United at a senior level and reassured them that our intentions are only for the good of the club.
“This gives all fans the chance to be involved to assist the club to re-sign CR7.”
Ronaldo, who has two years remaining on his contract with Real Madrid, is said to have turned down a new offer.

Can anyone point to some examples of Ronaldo acting 'like a baby' in his last season?

I genuinely can't remember many instances at all, aside from when he threw his shirt down.

Not sure, some people just seemed irked that he flirted with Madrid.

Would've looked a hell of a lot stupider had he come out and committed himself to United before inevitably joining Madrid, though.

There plenty of times he looked completely disinterested to me. Was really annoying at times but his moments of brilliance generally overshadowed those stroppy moments

He's always let frustration get the better of him on the football pitch at times. I saw no difference in his final season at United from his current on pitch demeanor at Madrid and Portugal.

Or his seasons prior to his last with us too IMO.

I know this will be difficult but can you refer to specific examples?

I remember some great performances towards the end of the season after he recovered from his injury.

You expect me to go through every game that season to just so I can provide you with specific examples?

Of incidents five years ago? And as I said most of those moments were mixed with quality so gets lost

And we wonder why things like those Nigerian scams find so many willing victims.

Not really, but you seem so certain and said there were plenty of occasions so you should be able to point to a few?

I think you're overstating it personally, Ronaldo didn't change much in his last season, but you're overall perception of him did IMO. A couple of minor strops is all I remember, but I also remember him having similar strops prior to his lat season.

There was a video on Sky of Ronaldo interviewing himself where he says he wants to stay at the club. 2 weeks later we accepted a 80m bid after it emerged that he'd made a transfer request.

when?

When what?

Can't pinpoint specific strops, but the ones I can vaguely remember from his last season by my recollection were very similar to ones he had in the season before, or the season before that. He always looked like he wanted to cry when he was taken off.

When else did he carry himself like he did in that last season. He obviously did not want to be at the club it showed in his play an attitude.

The Villa 3-2 game in his last season (the MACHEDAAAA game), he looked really half-arsed, I remember that much. I think Gary Neville shouted at him to get himself into the game at one point. But then he scored 2 great goals that match so he was still contributing.

He was a stroppy arse that whole season. Some important goals and great performances towards the end of the season masked this. Let's not forget the UcL final where he tried to make it about himself.

Yes, as opposed to Park, Giggs, et al that shat themselves after the first 10 minutes. We probably would have crashed out to Porto if he didn't make it about himself.

Didn't he return from his ankle injury sooner than expected? Say what you will, I can't say there have been any games with us where he didn't give his 100%.

Ah, the Independent have reported this story, I see. This wouldn't surprise me as we all know Monaco could easily do this, but I do not see him moving there, not this year at least.

That's actually a good example. Remember Young and Agbonlahor tearing Neville a new one in that game. The worst thing about that game was Ronaldo losing the ball on a couple of occasions and putting his hands up like a whiny little bitch instead of winning the ball back. But as you say his goals overshadowed those stroppy moments

That said I wouldn't say no to Ronaldo coming back but can't get as excited about this as many of yous seem to be.

You don't think he was noticeably more of an arsehole in his final year here?

He's never been in any way or form an 'arsehole'.

When he started his final season with us, he was coming back from ankle surgery if I remember correctly and it took him longer to reach the form he expected from himself, which might have led to some frustration with himself on his part. I understand that and it's a quality in him I appreciate, because it shows ambition. On top of that, the guy would get kicked all the time, with British refs turning a blind eye to the culprits.

Say what you want about Cristiano off the pitch, but on the pitch IMO he's almost always been the ultimate pro. There's a reason why Fergie was so fond of him and kept this fondness even after Ronaldo's departure. I once head that Ronaldo was always the first to come for training and the last to leave.

I don't know what more some of you wanted from him? Complaining about him allegedly 'not being arsed' despite him scoring two goals just seems spoilt to me. The guy gave us six wonderful years and if I could pick any player in this world for us to buy, it would withouth the shadow of a doubt be him.
