Cristiano Ronaldo

For some bizarre reason the ronaldo transfer thread was closed here's the latest from the sun.
MANCHESTER UNITED have stepped up their efforts to make Cristiano Ronaldo the signing of the summer.
The Red Devils are convinced they can take advantage of uncertainty at Real Madrid to bring him back home to Old Trafford.
And they are prepared to offer £65million plus a player to land the superstar, 28, who is still a hero with the United faithful.
Ronaldo is also understood to be keen on the move.
He has turned down offers from Real Madrid to sign a new deal with only two years left on his current contract.
Real will not give up trying to keep him.
But they have already made contingency plans to bring in Gareth Bale from Tottenham in a switch worth £80m.
They also know that they cannot afford to let Ronaldo’s contract run down and now would be the last chance to get big money back on him.
Ronaldo has put his house up for sale in Madrid and did not play in Real’s final game of the season after falling out with departing manager Jose Mourinho.
The player left United for Madrid in an £80m move in 2009. While he has won a Spanish title and the Copa Del Rey, he has not always been happy at the Bernabeu.
He missed many of his old team-mates at United and kept in touch with Alex Ferguson.
Ronaldo was disappointed when Fergie retired but he still fancies a return.
United have made contact with his representatives.
Sponsor Nike are also in on the deal.
United would make him their joint top earner with Wayne Rooney on £250,000 a week. While Paris Saint-Germain could top that, it is not just about the money for Ronaldo.
The signing would give David Moyes the perfect launchpad for his Old Trafford reign.

No he won't. a front three of Ronaldo, Rooney and RVP, would be immense. There won't be anyone playing second fiddle. It would just be the scariest attack in football. Rooney just has to lay to his abilities.

ahh now it's unlocked. You had me worried then Raol.

 bloody hell did you have this thread on refresh hoping it would get unlocked?

and Hernandez :(

From the Iberian press.

The Portuguese press (abola in particular) say Ronaldo's still talking about playing out his 2 years at Real Madrid and then going on a free. Either to a suitable nouveau riche club for megamoney or somewhere with less cash but more fun.

Perez being interviewed on Spanish TV says that Cristiano's got two years on his contract, they won't sell him, they will win a CL with him. Plus, as they think Ronaldo is happy in Madrid they would like to give him a new contract to make him even happier, so the project can rely on him for years to come.

Perez doesn't sound like a man preparing to cash in. He sounds like what he is: a businessman who thinks 80m over 6 years was a fair price, and a Real Madrid fan who thinks Ronaldo is good for them for as long as they can keep him.

Ronaldo to Chelsea? Mourinho came awfully close to accusing him of faking an injury to avoid playing the last two matches of the season. Ronaldo is not best pleased by the innuendo, I think it's safe to say the two of them are not best mates right now.

Ronaldo to United? Dream on, happy dreamers.

We just need confirmation from the Google docs before we can officially get our cocks out. But seeing that I'm working in a primary school I'll have to wait til I'm home to do so. Come on Google docs!!

He's coming home,
He's coming home,
He's coming,
Ronnie's coming home!

It's never gonna happen but if it did then some variation of this chant ringing around Old Trafford would be fecking awesome!

why do we do this to ourselves.

It really would be too good to be true.
I personally would combust.

Is this thread created because some official Man United twitter account posted that news and then deleted it?

No it's been created because over a years worth of rumours are coming to a point. Something is happening with Ronaldo. It's either contract negotiations, he's coming home or he's off somewhere else. He's coming back to United though.

Good enough for me then...

Sky sports, really?

It's also the main football story today in the papers. Now whether you believe them or not is irrelevant. This is a current transfer story.

As huge a statement as it would be, signing a 28-year-old winger for that amount of money is also a huge risk. Sure, I was one of those who aired similar sentiments over RVP last year, but you're getting two seasons maximum of the real Ronaldo and, presumably, another year of an average central midfield.

Interesting quotes from Mourinho..

Mourinho told Spain Intereconomia:
'He (Ronaldo) had three great seasons with me, I don’t know if they were the best in his career because at Manchester United he had great seasons too.
'But I think we found for him a tactical situation that helped him express himself on the pitch perfectly as shown by goal figures. The only problem has been that a coach criticises him from a tactical point of view trying to improve him and he has not accepted it well thinking, perhaps, that he knows it all and that the coach could not help him become any better.'

If this is true, I fear that Ronaldo's ego has gotten way too big, and unsurprisingly so given how good he is. IF we get him, I'd be far more relaxed if Fergie was still around..

Could be all BS mind.

How did you figure that out? Can you please elaborate?

SharkyMcShark has already made this reply pointless, but oh we'll.

The bit about central midfield? I'm PRESUMING there won't be the necessary money left over to buy the £30m+ central midfielder we've already been waiting years for.

The bit about wingers in their 30s? Self explanatory, I'd have thought.

Of course, Ronaldo could be the stone that kills both these birds by doing a Giggsy and reestablishing himself as a central midfielder when his pace goes.

Whilst it would be amazing to watch Ronaldo for a few more years it does seem a bizaare transfer! After earning a fortune off Ronaldo, we now wish to repay most of that, with the rest made up having brought Valencia. All in all we'd basically have lost out by selling him.

He is 28, so maybe 3 more years at best, £20m+ a year! Then add salary to that and you'll be getting close to the £30m+ a year for his prime, maybe taking that down to £20-25m a year if you allow for some good years in his 30s. Either way, this will be a very pricy signing and at what cost? There will be little money left in the pot for a midfielder who could arguably have longer term impact and at much better value.

However, having said the above if we did get Ronaldo that should get us a bit of spare capacity in terms of overall quality of the team to bed in a few youngsters such as Januzaj.

We will have money for midfielders as well as our youth coming through. You forget the tv money is about to increase as well as our sponsorship deals. So the prizes in winning the league for the next 3 seasons is well worth a 120mill investment now.
