Cristiano Ronaldo

Possibly. But his demeanour last night suggested it was some kind of personal issue. He'd never be so grim about a stalled contract negotianion.

His dad died on the 6th of September, ok, the dates are a bit close, but why make a fuss now? Ronaldo is a lot of things, but stupid he is not.

btw we could afford ronaldo if we moved rooney for 40 million.

60 million+ the 40 million we got from rooney for the transfer fee.

200k saved from moving rooney with an additional 100k-150k for ronnie...we could do it.

Selling Rooney is not an option.

English, settled already, one of our most important players and also great marketing tool.

Don't think we will ever sell an important player to get a more important players.

Maybe only if Rooney throws a fit like last time and he wants to leave again.

Twitter reporting that Ronaldo sighted at the Italian restaurant in Didsbury.

Its not his father. He said it's because of a professional issue. Still i doubt he'd leave Madrid now

I can't answer that. But it's difficult to believe this is about a bigger paycheck. He didn't behave like that when United were treating him as a 'slave'. :)

Id take that.

No. I don't like players returning, I'd like to think we've all moved on, and in our case rather we spend the amount it'd cost to get Ronaldo back on other areas that need strengthening.

Would you swap him for Rooney? I would.

I don't think it's about money. He's on €11m a year net and probably earns additional €5m or more from commercial contracts and sponsorship deals as he's one of the most recognized footballers in the world. Extra €2m or €3m he could possibly get from Madrid won't make a huge difference.

However good he was on the pitch, he was far more disrespectful to the club and Fergie in the summer of 2008 than even Rooney was with his October antics. But Ronaldo/Madrid fans here will happily forget that.

And yet despite this disrespect Fergie has talked several times about him being the best in the world and the only player he'd spend £60m on. I suppose it's not that strange as Alex Ferguson has a long history of putting up with disrespect.

Am I the only one who can't stand the self absorbed cnut?

Most modern footballers are self absorbed cnuts to be honest, it's just Ronaldo is probably the most high profile one. Better to accept this really. To be fair to him he works fecking hard to be the best at what he is....not a cnut, a phenomenal footballer.

i don't htink fergie is foolish enough to think ronnie is only worth that

Yeah, but he's not coming.

You're in the wrong thread then.

Why's that then?

Great player but a complete cock of a man.

The one thing we know about life, things never change.

Hard to believe so many wouldn't want him back.

Did you want Rooney to stay when he said the club lacked ambition, thus earning himself a nice pay increase in the process?

And what did you think of Keane slating the youngsters a few years ago?

What did you think of Van Nistelrooy throwing tantrums because he simply wanted to play more games?

These things happen at clubs, players' feelings change. They behave badly.

How can you not want Ronaldo back, he's not some injury-prone 30 year old?

Without wanting to get stuck into this latest Madrid-soap-opera - could he be having some sort of emotional breakdown? I mean crying for 20 minutes after a match they won effortlessly? I know he's emotional and blubbes when Portugal get knocked-out but this seems different.

We know that he puts himself under ridiculous pressure - at 18 he immediately took the place and number of the most famous player in the world at the time and made it his own, became the best player in the world at 24(?), is arguably playing better now but isn't considered the best today, got his "dream" move which probably hasn't lived-up to his idealised view - and he finds himself under insane scrutiny from the Spanish press. Is it getting too much?

Nah... probably some sort of political move, likely somehow even more money related.

If he were to leave, I think City would be the only ones that could afford him.

I don't think Madrid would bend over backwards to give him what he wants. This could get interesting.

PSG and Chelsea could afford him as well.

No chance even City can match his wages. If he wants to move, he'd need to take a massive pay cut. Somehow, i doubt he will. If he does though, we should be all in for him even at a high price.

I can't see him leaving Madrid, if he did then given his affiliations and connections I would imagine he wouldn't want to come back to England unless it was to rejoin us.

PHP:
Us: We'll give you £20m
Madrid: £150m
Us: £21m
Madrid: £150m
Us: Okay, okay. £22m
Madrid: £150m
Us: £25m, final offer.
Madrid: £150m
City: £125m
Us:................................................£27.75m

If FFP is implemented, City, Chelsea and PSG won't be able to offer CL football. Which I think he'd want.

if FFP is implemented you can bet everything you own and then some that UEFA/FIFA/whoever will make sure it's done in a way that means the big clubs aren't affected by it and are still able to play in the CL.

that's a cast iron guarantee as well, no chance they will do it in a way that would stop a big team from playing in the CL, specially not a rich big team as the owners of that team will throw millions in bungs at them at the mere suggestion.

Here's one thing I don't get... Now I don't completely understand the Financial Fairplay rules, but if anyone is to take the FFP rules seriously...

Who or how can anyone afford Ronaldo at the current market price and not violate those supposed rules. Realistically we are talking about 100M - 120M for him under current market conditions... maybe more. And who would take the risk of the "supposed" consequences of such a move?

How can any team spend that kind of money on 1 player and not violate those rules?

We can't afford Ronaldo but can we sign this one up?
