In the quarters, semis and final of the Champions League, Gianluigi Buffon has saved as many shots as Alan Shearer, Sergio Aguero, Alexis Sanchez, Aubameyang, Ronaldo Fenomeno, Eric Cantona, Francesco Totti, Miroslav Klose, Ruud Van Nisterlrooy, Michael Owen, Davor Suker, Ronaldinho Gaucho, Rivaldo, Carlos Tevez, David Villa, Robin Van Persie, Edin Dzeko, Jurgen Klinsmann, Gareth Bale, Dennis Bergkamp, Gianfranco Zola, Diego Forlan, Henrik Larson, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Éder, Gabriel Batistuta, Olivier Bieroff, Falcao, Cavani, Diego Costa, Samuel Eto'o, Thierry Henry, James Rodriguez and George Weah combined!
Feck me. I knew Buffon was good, but not that good!

maybe madrid are stirring this up because they want to get rid. it could be the last chance for them to get stupid money for him.

for what they could get for ronnie and morrata they could probably buy hazard and mbappe.

I was fairly optimistic that he would leave Madrid but as a few have probably mentioned and I initially forgot - he is one balon d'or behind Messi and I think he has almost no chance of winning one at United unless we compete for all trophies. I think Ronaldos main objective is to overtake Messi tbh. He's always been very clear in his desire to become the best in the world. Other than that simple but decisive fact, I can't see why he wouldn't return to United given the wages etc.

Every summer it's the same with us and Ronaldo. People just can't seem to move on.

Real will pay his tax bill, he'll kiss and make up with them all, and then they'll give him a pay rise to match Messi's.

Really hoping we make an express statement that we are not interested and end this speculation.

There is no way he is not getting 2017 Ballon D'Or. He can play for Hull City and still win it, on the basis of that monstrous CL play-offs performance.

We've really become the "go to" club to help resolve any high profile contract negotiations. Is that what Ramos was calling Ronnie about?

I think I'm going to link myself to United, in the hope of getting my contract improved...& I work in insurance!

This might be more do-able if he only had 1-2 years left on his contract. With 3-4 years left the power is with the selling club who could easily force him to stay.

That's the main reason I don't see this happening. Madrid won't allow him to leave.

While that's true, what's stopped Madrid coming out and saying anything up to this point?

I have a suspicion Madrid are not entirely against selling him this time round. He is 32 and on the decline. I just hope we are not the mugs that end up paying £200 million AND giving them David De Gea.

Jesus wept.

As a matter of principle, the fee should be less than we sold him for.

I wouldn't even swap DDG for him in a straight swap, never mind adding a world record fee on top. I'd love him back but I don't see any deal that wouldn't result in us being bent over for some ridiculous fee - he's 32 and his decline is fairly obvious...still a great player but for that kind of money you could buy 3 future greats, rather than one, who's best years are behind him.

I would take him for 75mln pound this month.

Never going to happen, if all this is true and Ronaldo does want to leave, Real won't shift him for anything under £200mil, and he will be worth every penny. He will play at the top for another 4 years.

I think a lot of you guys underestimating Ronaldo and overestimating De Gea's importance. This isn't the van Gaal years guys.

Best years are behind him, yet he still wins Ballon D'ors for fun. He (and Messi) are absolutely miles ahead of anyone, there is no-one that comes remotely close.

I really don't think so. The difference between the English and Spanish League in terms of physicality is huge. If he already has to be rested for some league games this year in Spain, then he will be wiped out in the Premier League.

I think 2 years max where we can expect at least 30 goals from him.. then it will start to go down to 20 goals, 10 goals, then elite bench player every year after that.

I expect this to be the case also.
Hoping that the lack of a statement denying interest means we are just quietly doing the business on other deals. Keeps the media happy for a few weeks though.

Well it's not going to happen anyway but 2/3 years of an all-time great would be very nice but as I say, I'd prefer to go for 2/3 future stars as part of a long-term rebuild.

Not that I'd be unhappy to have him back - quite the contrary and he'd be a brilliant signing...it's just we have limited money to be used for transfers and I think it could be best used elsewhere.

You talking about a player here, whos already a united legend. Who genuinely is in the conversation for GOAT, who is still in the top 2 players in the world currently. Yet people are genuinely questioning whether to sign him or not. Only on the caf.

I think there is no question that everybody wants him here. It's just how much you're willing to let Real Madrid take you up the arse in order to get him.

Genuine questions..

Jorge Mendes is Mourinho's agent too right? So if - as expected - this is all a ploy from Mendes and Ronaldo to get more money from Real Madrid, do you think Mendes would give Mourinho a nudge, so he didn't genuinely waste his time on it?

It would be a dick move if he let his client and his club waste time persuing the impossible just to benefit his other richer client!

Just had an interesting chat with Mr Andreas Jung (on Bayerns Board) after playing a practice round at the BMW Championship in Munich about all this Ronaldo business. He thinks it's all a power play as everyone keeps on saying, and that it wasn't even gestifute which briefed all the clubs and press about Ronaldo, but some intermediate.
He mentioned if Ronaldo were to become available most clubs know it would be United who get him. So no point getting serious and changing strategies/resources on it.

Oh and another couple of interesting topics, he says Sanchez is asking ridiculous wages making him a no go at the moment. And more intriguing, Costa is not happy in Munich and has made it known to the board that he would like to go, with Italy his preferred choice.

That's my thinking also. I have also read somewhere that Woodward and Mendes have a very good relationship. Mendes would not not play this bluff on people he has very good relations with if there wasn't something in it other than a better contract/ paying his taxes.

Cool. Another caf ITK! Loving it.

Messi had a much better season than Ronaldo, which shows how meaningful the balon dor is.

You and others keep mentioning those CL games - why are you ignoring the context of my argument? That spell was clearly a purple patch.

Did he do that by doing a Rooney impression in the CL knockout stage?

There must be a white text somewhere in your post, where is it ?

If he was out of contract and available for 2 years on high wages, that would be one thing. Breaking the world transfer record for a 32 year old would be nuts.

Yes it's all very interesting, but how did the golf go

You either want us to sign Ronaldo or you don't. It's a mug's game to say I want him but only if Real are a clueless bunch who don't know what Ronaldo can and will go for in today's market especially to a club loaded like we are.

So would I.

I have to disagree.

The Premier League is vastly over hyped. Yes, it's a more competitive league, but the quality of some of the teams is piss poor.

Ronaldo would score goals for fun, Zlatan should be an example, to how even an ageing world class player can just help himself to goals (and Zlatan missed loads of chances).

The guy is 32 yet, none of these up and coming world class players get anywhere near him - that for me says it all.

Oooooh wonder who the intermediary was...? Wouldn't happen to have been someone from Real Madrid?:D

For what it's worth, I agree with the posters here that believe Perez isn't averse to selling Ronnie (who I'm sure will be staying), don't think Zidane would be pleased, but suspect Perez wouldn't mind cashing in.....

Older players can remain fit. But their response slows. Its simply nature.
Zlatan missed many chances because his response was slower. You cant stop that.

Same will happen with Ronaldo. I think he can remain at the current level for another two years at most. He can still remain an important player but he will slow down.

The 'we sold him for 80 MP, so we shouldn't pay more than that' argument is BS.

We sold a 1 time Ballon D'or, 1 time UCL winner, with a promise that we would let him go.

We would be trying to buy a 5 time Ballon D'or, 4 time UCL winner with a huge contract just signed and leaving over an issue which is most likely his own fault and nothing to do with Madrid.

With any other player, age would have matter. With him, you know it wouldn't.

Madrid are well within their rights to demand 150 MP. If anything, we were stupid to let him go for 80 MP.
