Cristiano Ronaldo | Transfer Speculation

Everyday, I promise not to come here, but end up handing my pecker to someone (read reply to someone's comment). Maybe I should consider getting threadbanned..

It's amazing how many of our fans get hung up on transfer fees.
Some on here probably own a United shirt customized with Jason from accountings printed on the back.

Getting Ronaldo back to United for 100m? It's alot of money but I think our fanbase deserves it.
It would be a huge statement, and would put us 2 steps forward in challenging for the title we are overdue.

Still, I'm very sceptical about this actually happening but boy I'd be all for it.

Feel much the same for the most part. Our club and fans deserve it. But I gotta say given the market prices it's not actually a lot of money. Because it's Cristiano Ronaldo. A player that is unequivocally in the seasonal debate of Greatest Of All Time! Any other fan base only dreams of being able to say, "yeah so-and-so played for us". We have a chance to say that and for him to finish off his career with us.

Like you, can't be confident of this happening til he's back on old trafford.

Then I'm still far from convinced that it's a worthwhile investment. I get excited and momentarily am persuaded, but then I realise this is not FootaballManager, its real life, and such an investment for a 32 1/2 year old is sheer lunacy.

In my perspective, it's the opposite - all of the arguments against this transfer stem from a FM type mentality.

In particular the repeated noise from fans on here about age and fee combo is purely is so wildly off base. Talking about other players being more worthwhile because of 'sell-on' ability is FM mentality. We are talking about paying, as I noted above, for one of the greatest players of all time. He was not that when he left us. He is now.

The sum would be worth it just for one season let alone two or three. And again, predictions of his being 33 as if it is the equivalent of 43 is all FM mentality. He doesn't drink, he eats well and has insane drive. That curve in ratings with age that I see in video games isn't true. It doesn't work like that. He isn't going to become a geriatric all of a sudden.

I get the concerns - we all want what's best for Manchester United. And I get playing up these concerns in fear of disappointment if this doesn't happen. If it does I am sure Ronaldo will shut down his detractors as he does every time.

He scored 42 from the wing nearly 10 years ago. He's still lethal but a completely different player now. The overall quality of the league has improved since he was last here too. If (big if) he comes back every team from 7-20 will be sticking two men on him.

Come on... The bolded bit is just ridiculously stupid. Not only is he one of the most known faces in the world, I have been watching Utd for over 27 years.
He's probably the best finisher in the world at the minute, he would score 40+.

All I know is this. If we end up scuppering out Plan A due to this circus and end up with nothing substantial at the end of this window then I would not be happy; it would mean our transfers team don't know how to do their jobs. This has Fabregas 2.0 written all over it.

I really don't think he'd score that many for us. Not the level he's at now, he was rested a lot this season for a reason. I reckon between 20 and 30 he'd get.

Because the economy was the same when he was 24.

It's like some people live under a rock or something

This is my biggest annoyance. Citing what we sold him for in 09 is pointless as the market has drastically changed.

If he actually wants to move he will need to hand in an actual written transfer request. Until that happens he is playing games. If he does though then his price is simply the highest bidder and who stays in the bidding game the longest. If Ronaldo makes it clear he will only join us, and publically say he won't move to Ligue 1 then his price would drop dramatically. It then comes down to Perez's willingness to keep Ronaldo 'a slave' to his massive contract or preserve the harmony of the dressing room (whats left of it). Potentially it might not be that expensive.

Don't know how anyone can bring up age after seeing a 35 year old become our top scorer last season.

It would make me so happy if Perez forced him to stay and he absolutely wrecked the remaining harmony in the dressing room. Gets sold in January at cut-price and is cup-tied.

I still think he's playing games as well, and wouldn't like him here, regardless. He's a great player, but such a diva... I cringe and get irritated EVERY time he does his dorky little spin and pose thing in the corner.

Really? IMO The league was comfortably better when he was here, especially defensively. The big 4 reached the latter stages of CL consistently.

The PL defenses right now are a joke - not a single team that can boast of a backline like Rio, Vidic, Evra, VDS or Cole, Terry, Carvalho, Cech, etc.

£175m + £60m de Gea (conservative value) = £235m

Fukcing hilarious from the Mirror. If you're gonna make stuff up, at least make it somewhat believable!

There are folks on this forum that believes that and think it's a very good deal.

Then, I made it my desktop wallpaper.
So now, every time I read about Cristiano's transfer in the papers, instead of becoming delusional, I sense a Deja Vu.
Then I say this to myself – "Gosh! These football players should start finding novel ways to make more money. It's getting more and more embarrassing now. Even politicians now-a-days are ashamed of using the same trick twice."

It helped me. Hopefully, it will help some others as well, from becoming bipolar with these CR7 transfer rumors.

I was looking forward to an interesting summer window with us bringing in maybe a defender, a midfielder or two and a striker, now I don't care about any of that. Ronnie always knows how to steal the show!

I think almost everyone in here is operating under the assumption that Ronaldo doesn't actually want to leave and there are very slim margins of him actually re-joining us, this is just a nice one to get excited about due to sentimentality. Once he's finished having a strop, Madrid will pay his €15m fine and he'll stay.

Yup. Of course, of course. I too had made up many theories and fantasies over the weekend, by speculating his return to OT based on some silly rumors over the past 4 months, just for fun.
But, the most frustrating thing is that there has been absolutely no update on our actual transfer targets Perisic/Morata/Belotti/Fabinho/Dier/Matic over the past couple of days and it seems as if this is going to continue over the next week as well. I was hoping we could make at least one or two signings by the end of this week. The impact these rumors have on us is nothing compared to the impact they have on our transfer targets.

Over the last few years the club has signed fantastic sponsorship deals they know what it takes to make the club successful financially (United is the most valued club worldwide) i really can't see them paying a stupid fee for a 32 year old.

Irrespective on how good he is, spending more then 60m on a 32 year old is crazy

The little boy who cried 'wolf',except that maybe the 'wolf' is among the sheep already!Things will be a little clearer after Mendes meets with Perez today,Jose is understandably remaining very quiet on this!

Whatever fee we pay for Ronaldo, I am sure that we would have calculated it properly to ensure it is worth it. Also, I think that this transfer will only go through with Jose's agreement and we will also settle our other transfer beforehand too.

It wouldn't work out anyhow because Mourinho will want Ronaldo to play only where Mourinho wants him to play but Ronaldo would only want to play where Ronaldo wants to play.

The market changed from 2009. Bitching about the prices of Ronaldo, Morata etc. is like bitching why do you have to pay 2k for Bitcoin now if it was only cents in the beginning.

If Ronaldo is available to buy we will be all over him. I thought he is finished but he evolved into elite predator inside the box. Just what this team needs. Ibra on his last legs still scored 25+ for us and Ronaldo still has 2-3 seasons at the top in him. He would probably get 40+ goals a season as the main striker for us.

not sure why people are bothered about the fee it would not be coming out your pockets, these players dont come about often and if theres a chance to get him we should be all over it, Zlatan put the age thing to bed last season with the amount of goals he scored in his 1st season in the prem, Ronaldo is alot better then him, could easily see him still performing in 3/4 years. imagine Ronaldo at the end of the chances we missed last season. still think he will get a new contract at madrid so aint getting my hopes up.

I doubt most in here actually thing he's coming tbf.

I wish it was August already so all these potential deals can be concluded. I hate this waiting game! But because there's no footy on I get dragged into these silly transfer rumours.

This.

There is a better chance of Manchester getting Aubameyeng AND Dembele. It ain't going to happen.

There are
1. Too many legal question marks
2. Too big a rift between José and Ronaldo
3. Too big a rift between Real Madrid and Manchester United
4. Too big a gap between the quality of footballers on Real Madrid and those on Manchester United.
5. The Premier League would be physically tougher than the Spanish league on a week by week basis (I'm not doubting he would tear it up in the premier league)

This, again, is just EVERYONE deciding to ride the MUFC popularity coattails by bringing up ridiculous scenarios that will garner the most twitter gossip or sell the most newspaper rags.

"Hey, MUFC is the most popular football club in the world... let's include them in everything we type up"

The club doesn't have the time for this. They've still only signed a player that may only end up being a backup to a Rojo/Bailly partnership. Whose our starting forward? Are we getting Perisic? Whose Carrick's long term holding mid replacement?

I hate the media.

I'm not saying it will happen but there are major holes in your arguments.

1. Everyone said the same thing about Mourinho and Mata, don't believe the bullshit you read in the papers
2. United sold Ronaldo to Real after Fergies "I wouldn't sell them a virus" comments... so the rift was already there, if its even a rift
3. The quality of player at United was superior to Real when Ronaldo went to Real initially. We did 3 out of 4 finals in the Champions League while Real couldn't get past the round of 16 3 times and only managed 1 semi final (incidentally that was after they bought Ronaldo...).

I echo this though. I don't think Mourinho or Woodward will be looking at this with muppet fever though, they'll be busy getting their signings done. I think United should fire back and dangle something like a huge contract offer in the papers to really unsettle things.

this is on Sky Sports ( who of late are just the Mail by another name)
  • Manchester United are set to go all out to land Cristiano Ronaldo in a staggering £175m deal - plus David de Gea.
I would be pissed off if this happened.

It's utter nonsense, really is silly season.

"Who's a player who was linked with Madrid recently... de Gea... okay, let's make a story with a swap deal, we fecking love making stories with swap deals."
