I don't think Ronaldo will play striker if he ever does come to United though. Zlatan was the absolute focal point of our attack and everything fell to him. Ronaldo off the wing, with Rashford, Mata etc around him instead of the Ozils, ADMs, James, Isco and Marcelo won't really get close to the same service and score 50 goals a season off the wing imo.
I don't think he's that bothered about the love or hate of fans. If he wanted to be permanently adored, he'd have stayed at United or actually come back one of the times it was possible to come back. He's quite the attention seeker and all this talk of Mbappe could have actually annoyed him. Also, with Messi getting a huge new deal, it's no surprise the annual "Ronaldo is leaving" rumors have picked up ahead of another contract renewal.
