Cristiano Ronaldo : The Juventus Chapter | Fin

Well least to say its a worlclass movement and a great counter attack sprint which lead to the goal, but people who hates him would blind out all that and sum it up as a "tap in". Its just a norm here with the haters, who can't stand anything he has done on the pitch. Another example is, whoscored rated him the highest in the game with a very high 8.53 rating (motm performance), yet there are people saying he has poor game, just as usual. See the pattern? To them whatever goal he scored is a meh goal, and whatever performance he has put on the game is a poor performance. Its just, a day of their life as haters here.

He was easily the best player on the pitch. Even a casual viewer could see that.

Why would Ronaldo fan boys play it down? Most people have had enough of the pathetic Ronaldo move the goal post fan boys, I am just bored and pathetic enough to lower myself to question you all. :wenger::lol:
I am not his fan boy, but I do appreciate good goal.
And if you had enough than why are you waisting your time and energy in this thread? You can feck off to messi thread.

He ran in a straight line. Seems the bare minimum for a footballer. Nice tap in though.
The hate is strong with this one.

You would think a United fan would understand and appreciate a player who can make a run like that and a player who has positional sense since it’s what we’ve lacked prior to Cavani.

You must be a big Martial fan ;)

Better than the German players like Gosens who won the match for them or their midfielders who ran rings around Portugal?

Wish we were proactive enough to sign him back when he left Madrid. Could have easily win us a league title.
He just lost a league title with Juve. There's no single player - current or from history - who you can add to our squad and be confident of us winning the league. Not in our current state against 95 point City or Liverpool and not this past season where City started slowly. We should stop looking for quick fixes and shortcuts and work on becoming a really top class team.

Germany played better as a unit. As an individual he was better.
That collective that dominated is made up of individuals who completely bossed the game. And Gosens absolutely destroyed Portugals right hand side.

To be fair, Gosens was left unmarked by the worst right back defensive performance in Euro. Individually speaking Ronaldo was better, but Gosens had a good game too.

Here's the detail break down of their stats in the match for comparison:

Avg rating: Ronaldo 8.53 > Gosens 8.38
Goals: Ronaldo 1 = Gosen 1
Assists: Ronaldo 1 = Gosen 1
Dribble: Ronaldo 3 > Gosen 0
Key pass: Ronaldo 2 = Gosen 2
Pass: Gosen 32 > Ronaldo 27
Pass completion: Ronaldo 88.9% > Gosen 78.1%
Cross: Ronaldo 2 = Gosen 2

Semedo had an absolute mare of a match but I also wonder how much Portugal’s manager let them down with his tactics? Seemed a bit bizarre

Not really. I’m mainly just enjoying the salty tears.

Obviously the movement was good. In reality I don’t let the fact I can’t stand Ronaldo to deter from my appreciation he’s a lethal player. A massive man baby twat, but a terrific world class player even at 36.

Well obvously their tactics has been all wrong. They have about the worst DM pairs in the competitions, but they keep on insisting playing double pivot system with no pace no energy and no link up play in the midfield, which is also partly due to fault of Bruno who hasn't been dropping back helping much. They don't have choice with Semedo though as Cancelo was not available. I think its a mix of misfortune (Cancelo out), wrong tactics (double pivot with slow DM pairs) and out of forms of several key players (Bruno, Silva etc) which lead them to big defeat. In short, similar to England, they aren't playing to their strength. But the difference is, at least England has a stronger back 4 unit and DM pairs as compared to Portugal. I don't think they have a chance to win this competition at all, and a very slim chance to qualify to last 16.

good thoughts. I’m sure Portugal will figure it out, the defense was incredible in 2016 and if they can fix the backline they could be deadly again. Knockouts could be a whole different animal to the Portugal of the group stage

I am not so sure they will figure it out. They played the same stupid setup against Hungary and got lucky in the last 15 minutes.

Jees some people really are blinded by ronaldo. Ok he scored a tap in amd an assist. But he had zero work rate off the ball, effectively out or possession portugal were down to 10 men while ronaldo walked around. I'd take Cavani's work rate on and off the ball over carrying Ronaldo as a passenger all day for utd.

As for best player? That would be a few of the germans who put 4 goals past Ronaldo's Portugal.

Sorry but thats just not true at all.

Also hilarious that @RedRonaldo is using whoscored ratings as gospel here when another poster pointed out whoscored gives Messi a higher rating than Ronaldo in their careers and he went into hiding and completely ignored that.

Ronaldo was not better than Goosens and using stats to compare a forward to a full back is laughable. Goosens correctly got the official motm.

Santos will not change, we will have the useless slow DM double against France
Against Hungary we won because... in the last 15 minutes we didn't have the double slow DM system
It's plainly obvious we are terrible with this system and changing it improves us overnight but Santos is dogmatically attached to his ideas even when he has proven them wrong every single time,

Ok but why do you hate him so much?

He’s a GOAT level player (at least in the discussion regardless of your preference.)

To me Messi is the man baby, to drag your club through the dirt at their lowest point including the fanbase, holding them to ransom. What’s Ronaldo done for you to hate him so much?

Players he plays with have nothing but good things to say, he’s perhaps the most dedicated footballer in the history of the game, is known for being charitable, family man.

Feck me I sound like his PR guy, but I just don’t get why somebody would hate him, especially a United fan.

This thread is amazing, is it like this after every goal he scores?

I assume it’s grown men going on about fanboys and enjoying the salty tears of other men who appreciate goals scored by one of the best ever.

17 years ago he scored his first goal in the Euros and we’ve had the pleasure of watching him along with Messi destroying teams and scoring cracking goals, smashing records along the way throughout this time and he’s now in the twighlight of his career. Just enjoy it ffs.

It's the weird obsession with picking a side, despite the fact that they're grown men that have no knowledge or interest in any of the people arguing over them. Both are brilliant, I really don't get the need for members of one 'faction' to decamp to the other's thread when they do something well to knock them. Bizarre.

Its not a gospel, but its still much better than your opinion, which is laughable and irrelevant anyway. And since when did I say Ronaldo performs better than Messi in their careers? You are assuming things in your imaginative mind, which is kind of sad.

I'm pretty sure if football didn't exist a lot of the messi/ronaldo posters would be terrorists.

What opinion is that?

:lol::lol: Salty crocodile tears

thankfully he got a goal and assist and was generally their best attacking outlet.

Meanwhile proclaimed “best striker in the world” Harry Kane struggling against the might of Scotland and Croatia

My post was just a wee bit tongue in cheek.

The athleticism, speed and desire to win he still shows is phenomenal. The first goal showed all of that.

His shin must have been 6ft in the air when he hooked that second one back over, most players half his age that wouldn't even be able to do that.

I think he was very good yesterday. He's just so productive in what he does. The movement befoee his goal was great and the danger he poses from set pieces in both converting and assisting is phenomenal. I don't get why one can't appreciate that at least, especially given his age and that he won't be playing for ages anymore at this point. You can prefer Messi and still enjoy his class.

Hope he gets himself the Ali Daei record.

Good post...very balanced.

He's only 3 away from overtaking it. If Portugal do go through he'll break it otherwise he'll do it after the Euros. I don't think he'll retire from international football until after WC2022

It's sad that one of his best performances in a major tournament will actually end up with Portugal being knocked out in the group stage itself. Can't see them getting anything against France.

It's quite likely they go through even if they lose against France?

Yeah agreed. I mean I’m a Ronaldo fan, of the two he’s the one I prefer but I’m biased and understand my view is therefore biased.

But I don’t go around trying to badmouth or downplay Messi because I can’t, they are both elite, in their own bracket, untouchable.

It just comes down to personal preference, I’ve enjoyed every minute of watching both careers, we’ve been spoilt to witness both at the same time and very lucky to have had one at our club during an amazing period for us.

Is it? I know they qualified with 3 points last time around, but this time it feels that 4 points might be the very least that a team might need to make through to the next stage. I might be completely wrong though.

I frankly don't understand it.
We've been blessed in this era of sports.

Messi and Ronaldo in football, Federer, Nadal and Djokovic in tennis.

But all these fanbases seem inclined to absolutely hate on each other in droves.

We're witnessing greatness. Why not appreciate it?

I think 99% of people do, its the rabid fanboys who should stick in the Messi v Ronaldo for their childish debates. I hate the Messi v Ronaldo stuff, so infantile. Appreciate both players, but they are in the twilights of their careers and not the same players they were 5 years ago nevermind 10 years ago. Constructive criticism is valid for any sport, but comments like "he was best player on the pitch yesterday" is what my 6 year old would say.

Maybe there should be a seperate thread for instagram fans to do their idol worship of ronaldo/messi while the rest of us can discuss two very talented veterans at the twilight of their careers.

We will have a better idea in a few hours, but I reckon 3pts with a 0 GD could well be enough

Well said, whilst I’ve often said I rate Messi as the 2nd best player ever only behind Ronaldo; the Messi brigade come up with ludicrous comments all the time.

Take it to messi v ronaldo thread. Not here.

100% my thoughts.

Edit: But I mean... This is how football goes. It's a team's game. The same has happened with Messi too.

2nd edit: good point about tennis' big 3 above. I prefer Djokovic, and there was a time early on where I just couldn't stand Federer go 3 sets on everyone, I felt it was just plain boring, fast forward some years and I just had to concede Federer was magical too in his own classy way, and started watching him closely to just appreciate him before he retires. Same about Nadal.
