Surprised that over one third of fans in the poll don't want him back! Bringing him in to the current squad makes us Title favourites in my opinion. He could be worth as many as 40 goals over all competitions, is hardly ever injured and will add a fear factor to our opponents that no other player would (except obviously Messi but he's not coming!).
Add that to the fact he is a club legend and I genuinely think would like the opportunity to play here again and surely it's win-win!

This is serious.

Even BBC reports it today:

There is no doubt that the club it trying to make it happen! :D

That's just the BBC rumours page though. It's not happening, people. Everyone pack up and go home.

He'd win trophies at United guaranteed. That's not the case with FSW at RM.

Not winning trophies hasn't bothered him all of this time so what's different? Also while I think we have a good chance and I'm pretty positive about our future we haven't won a trophy in a while either and are not guaranteed to win the league or champions league which are the only ones that really matter.

Why do you say RM was his boyhood team? Paddy asked him when he was at United and it was Benfica. If Ronaldo knew then what he knows now? He'd probably have signed for Barcelona

I said 'dream' not 'team'. Bit of a difference.

LVG is just so brutally honest.

I think LVG might be tougher on his players than SAF was even. Saying what he said about Schweinsteiger can be quite hurting.

I'm thinkin LvG's gonna be a nightmare to work with these next 2 seasons; he wants success, to keep up his record & his stress levels will go through the roof because of it..

Mental that these "Ronaldo to United" rumours surface just because of a spat on the training pitch. It's so ridiculous to think Ronnie will want to leave - given that he's so close to breaking Raul's goal-scoring record.

Still though, i just cant see Ronnie gettin on with the FSW - given their rival links & the FSW being an out of his league arsehole. How he got the Real job - replacing the brilliant Ancelotti, is beyond me. Real havent a feckin clue at all..

@carvajal will know more, but i think part of the reason they appointed fat Rafa was due to Perez wanting a Spanish born manager.

Has Ronaldo spoken of a strong desire to break that record?

Obviously his parents watched Spanish football but it's still not a childhood dream. Fact is I think Madrid or certain Spanish clubs wanted him but he chose to come to England.

Even if he was very talented in 2003 I don't think anyone knew exactly how good he would become. It's not only down to talent, but Ronaldo's mental strength is IMO just as important as his physical skills for his immense success. No one knew that with any certainty in 2003. Compare him to Nani. Both have exceptional talent, but only one of them had the mental ability to really break through.

When we got Ronaldo he was 18. As I remember it no one in United knew much about him before that friendly against Sporting. United have a very good relationship with Sporting and therefor we got him, over a night. The deal was even initiated during the match. As a 18 year old Man Utd is quite a big move, a dream for anyone. When you are 24 and from Iberia, a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona is probably the move of your life.

Yes and I think he is much more brutal than SAF. IMO SAF was undoubtly the best ever at man management. He knew exactly what to say to a player to get the best out of him, and also what not to say.

LVG won't care how a player reacts to his criticism.

Not saying LVG is not as good a manager, but I think he is quite different from SAF and I don't think Ronaldo would have as good relationship with him as he had with SAF. Ronaldo still thinks of SAF as a 2nd father.

Well then...

Hire Fergie Buy Ronaldo

YES! This year's Vidal thread, finally.
He may not be happy with Benitez, but doesn't mean he'll actually leave. Would love to see this happen and it's more likely now than it ever has been before, but with our relationship with Real alredy seemingly strained over the De Gea situation, seems unlikely.

Yes, and the knowledge about the club.Madrid has a very good generation of young players in academy(Mayoral) besides I think that they want meritocracy and someone who accept the ideas of the board.Anyway Jose Angel Sanchez was who proposed the transfer

Hunter is a Madrid fan Boi who can't understand why any player would want to play for anyone else. Ignore his ramblings.
He says Ramos wants to come to United. His mind is made up, but Madrid are blocking this.

Yeah man, he has in 2013:

"I've always said that records are made to be broken, not just by myself but by the next generation of players.

"I'm happy to have beaten these records and I'm happy to have reached these numbers. What I want more than anything is to keep on going and try for first place."

Well, he's hardly going to say he doesn't want to break the record, is he?

You don't have to give me more quotes, but has he spoken at length on this record? He also wants to win a ton of CL trophies, and that hasn't really happened for him at Real like he had hoped. He's getting on in years, only a few more at the top of his game, does he want that Real scoring record more than another CL win? He's not getting very likely to get one with Benitez.

I can easily see him finishing his career there, of course. And perhaps he won't consider a move until he breaks the scoring record. But I also think he has to be frustrated with his trophy haul at Real and may very well be looking around to see who has the best chance to win if they add him to their squad.

Absolutely agree with all of that mate.

LvG is like the hard-arsed Step-dad by comparison. He seems to have a split personality - "Jekyll & Hyde" shit.

And over the course of the next 2 seasons - i think we & the players, will see much more of Mr. Hyde than Dr. Jekyll.

He'll be going all out to leave a good legacy with us & that's what we want as fans; but the fragile-mentality players might be pretty head-wrecked & uncomfortable around him though, which might affect their form in a negative sense.

He does seem to have a great personality though - tough but fair, and has a great sense of humour it seems too, so i think the players will in general, run through a brick wall for him or they'll be out of the team..

He's a one-man show, that's for sure :D

Then dont feckin ask for them then

So how about him saying he wouldn't join another PL club? Or not celebrating his goal against us?

RM was his boyhood dream. Just as United is for many. Would love Ronaldo back.

I'm not suggesting he hates the club or anything, just that he doesn't particularly love us in the same way many often think. He'd probably join another PL club if any of them were appealing to him. I don't get the argument that he never would: look at Fabregas, who proclaimed his love for Arsenal when he went to Barca, but was happy to jump ship to Chelsea.

No I know you weren't suggesting that, but I disagree he would join Chelsea for example. He has said that he wouldn't quite clearly – which is different from Fabregas. Were Ronaldo to go back on that then I would agree with you wholeheartedly. But I'm pretty sure he won't. That to me does say United is in his heart.

I think he does love United but hates the climate. I don't think there's much if any appeal him going PSG or the like. I think he took United for granted in the sense that, we reached a point where only the best team of the last 10 or so years could beat us in Europe. We just weren't set up right to deal or handle Barcelona in the two finals. Saying he'd won everything, we know is bullshit. If he believes that, what is the point of building a trophy cabinet? Winners want to win. So I don't think it's a 'love' thing and to be honest I don't entirely blame him. Even if you're born in the UK, at times the weather can be difficult. However, a footballers career can be very short. He would have many more medals if he had have stayed and he would have worked in an environment that would have demanded he got rid of the theatrics.

Yes your idea of the next 2 seasons is very interesting.

I know you understood what I meant but I just want to emphasize, for others, that I think LVG is among the worlds best coaches, a good fit for United because of his attacking mentality and faith in youth, but we should not expect a new SAF.

I also think he has a good sense of humor, is a kind person off pitch and I think players like him and look up to him but they don't awe him like they did with SAF. LVG has other means than making his players awe him to make then produce their best.

That is probably for the best for LVG as well since such a short term appointment, compared with 26,5 years, is too short to establish such an awe.

Also, as I said before, SAF let his best players free on the pitch. Most of the time he had one player who he would allow more freedom because he knew they would flourish from it. LVG doesn't do that as far as I know so if Ronaldo comes here he will be a slave under LVG:s system. Maybe it works anyway, maybe it don't. I don't know.

Agree completely with your Jekyll & Mr Hyde assasement :)

I appreciated the quote, my friend! I was just trying to say that I believe you and you don't have to go to the trouble of providing more quotes if you don't want to. Since I was asking if he'd spoken many times about breaking that record, I didn't want you to think I was expecting you to go dig up 10 quotes across the last years of him saying so.

Just trying to be nice!

That was a very good read man - so my hat is tipped towards your direction

I think the main difference between Fergie & LvG, is that Ferigie was never on a time-frame set by the club to win things - he set it himself; whereas LvG has 2 season's to get us back winning ways & not just the League Cup - League title & Champions League are the priority.

Fergie was unsackable (he earned that right too) - but other manager's will not have the same luxury at United & we as fans understand that.

The main difference i've garnered from LvG & Fergie, is that Fergie always seemed to build his teams around individuals & LvG builds it around the sum of all parts.

We've an exciting roller-coaster ride ahead us with LvG & United, so lets embrace the shit out of it & lets hope we all enjoy the thrills ahead :)
