Thinking that Van Gaal and Ronaldo will get along perfectly is naive. Ronaldo expects to have the team built around him, while Van Gaal demands every player to play for the team. Both are strong personalities too. But yeah, laugh it off.

Van Gaal has said he would sign him, so that tells me he is his type of player.
Whether they would get on or not is neither here nor there. I don't think they would be trouble though tbh, LVG does setup teams to utilise the best of what he has (even though he has his philosophy) See Robben at the world cup.

The only role where Ronaldo could actually work is as the #9. He'd barely be involved though, not sure how happy he'd be about that, but it would bring Ronaldo a lot of goals. I just don't see it happening though. Ronaldo is so close to becoming the RM top goal scorer of all time, he certainly won't leave before that so there's no point in even thinking the thought of him returning to OT this summer.

Somehow Sir Alex wasn't a strong personality? Top managers do whatever it takes to get the most out of the players he has.

Sir Alex wasn't as determined as Van Gaal to only have players who play for the team only. Fergie was more lenient in his player instructions and he gave players such as Ronaldo a lot of freedom. Van Gaal doesn't and his style doesn't suit players like Ronaldo.

Edit: I'm not saying that Ronaldo + LVG = disaster. I'm saying that it's a risk. Van Gaal has fallen out with similar players (in terms of them wanting more freedom) like Ribery, Rivaldo etc. Top managers always adapt but Van Gaal has an extremly strict tactic and he demands every player to follow it.

40.5% voted no? You guys are mental  The guy is one of the greatest athletes in the sports history, and has at least another 3 years in him at the very top.

(I voted no because I'd hate to see a player of that quality at United again).

"I don't want the cnut back, he left us before and can't come back." They're proper intellectual hardmen aren't they.

If we wouldn't need a new goalkeeper, central midfielder, centre back, right-back and a new striker, I would have voted yes. Some might have a good reason behind their no.

Every bit of common sense i have says that he's 30, would cost too much and gave his best years to another club. But you'd be mental to turn him down, he's that good.

Not sure how many are there among those 40% calling him cnut and saying that he cant come back because he left us before.

 That's exactly why we don't want him back. So precise.

Remember on here when he got slaughtered .A case of you do not appreciate something till it's gone.Don't want him back though that time as gone.

I haven't voted but there are genuinely valid reasons to vote 'no' to be fair.

I doubt he'll leave until he has slaughtered all Madrid's records. He will want to be remembered as the best ever for a long time.

Funny how people are ignoring that Ronaldo is the opposite of a Van Gaal type of player.
Didn't Van Gaal set his team up around Robben when he was at Bayern? I'm sure I read that before. No way would LVG say no to Ronaldo

Signing Ronaldo is probably a guaranteed title for the next 3 years. No one else in the league will come close to his crazy goal numbers

Why does this thread even exist?

There's absolutely no chance of CR coming back here.

I don't want us to spunk half our budget on a 30 year old.

That's the thing, this isn't any 30 year old, this is one of the best players of all time who still has a few great years left in him.
If we have a shot at getting him back, we (Woodie) would be all over that.

I think our budget has room to room to fix the areas of the team that need upgrading (CB,RB,CDM) and still sign a Gaalatico.

He's just had his best season ever in terms of goals, it would be interesting to see how well he'd do for us. He wouldn't have everyone laying chances on a plate for him, he'd have to do a fair amount of work himself. He still basically guarantees you 30 a season though, at least, which in the PL is ridiculous, and exactly what we need.

To be fair people said the exact same thing about Rooney and LVG before last season.

Amen!
(I still don't think he will come back next season...but a boy can dream)

:)

Not exactly, there should be reasonable concerns regarding Ronaldo and Van Gaal clashing unless Van Gaal completely falls in love with him like Ferguson did. Rooney has always been very unselfish to a fault on the pitch so him getting along with Van Gaal should never have been an issue as long as he was being picked to play week after week, which became inevitable because none of the other strikers distinguished themselves enough to challenge his spot.

Ronaldo on the other hand had a narcissistic personality when he was here 6 years ago, now its only grown bigger and stronger.

Can't believe that poll result, do you people not like being entertained.

The budget thing is a naff reason, for all we know the club can afford it. It's not our money so I couldn't care less what he cost.

I'd be keen to see the no votes broke down into reasons.

Put it this way.

Liverpool have a lot of problems in their current squad, and need to address them. Do you think they'd happily spend their budget to bring Suarez back?

Answer is yes by the way.

A few papers and media whores saying that the Fat Spanish waiter is going to make Ronaldo his number 9 and the main point of attack. If that's true, I can't see Ronaldo leaving Madrid this Summer. It would maybe mean Benzema was though

Probably the second best player ever to grace the game and you're worried about our budget? Are you an economist by any chance?

feck the budget, bring Ronnie home!

We could probably afford to get Ronaldo and our other targets this summer though, if we curbed our spending next summer. Not that he's available..

Not that he's available..

The thing is we just don't know that's 100% accurate. The same as the rumours with Benzema, we can't really be sure. I think with Benitez taking over it really does throw everything in the air. Ronaldo is an unpredictable lad at times and he could easily not like the idea of a fat Spanish waiter ruling the roost at Madrid and he could throw a strop and ask to leave. It's no secret he didn't like Di Maria being sold last year and wasn't happy with a few things, it's not too unthinkable to imagine things are still the same.

Raúl - 323
Ronaldo - 313

He's going nowhere until he beats that.

It wouldn't matter if they appointed Sherwood.

Nahhhhhh...

If there's one thing we know about Ronaldo it's that he's not driven by personal glory.
