Cristiano Ronaldo - Much Ado About Al Nassr

In a very modern cl context Ajax, Lyon and a 10 men Porto are hardly giants of the game. Minnows might be taking it a step too far.

Ha yes definitely, I do get what you mean though. They're not "top tier" so to speak.

And yet in the 2 seasons after Ronaldo Madrid got knocked out by ajax, then city, who themselves got knocked out by lyon. They were hardly flying, 8 semi finals in a row, 4 in the last 5 won, and then 2 last 16 exits then they spent hundreds of millions

Nowhere near world beaters. That Juventus team had reached 2 UCL finals in 4 years and finding themseleves knocked out by teams rhey were expected to beat 3 years in a row was pretty dissappointing.
Ronaldo messing up in the wall to let Porto score that 3rd away goal to knock Juventus out was pretty embarrassing.

The same way that PSG had reached a semi final and final the 2 years before Messi joined and then two last 16 exits (one of which had him missing a penalty) means that he made them worse? Or is it not as simple as just team doesn't get as far, must be the new signings fault?

RM got knocked out by Lyon in his 1st season at Real Madrid. Or maybe it was Dortmund. Either 2 first and 2nd season there.

It was lyon in his first season

Then after that 8 semi finals in a row as I said

Semi Vs barca
Semi Vs bayern
Semi Vs Dortmund
Winners
Semi Vs juventus
Winners
Winners
Winners

PSG weren't even champions of their domestic league when Messi joined, and immediately won the league.

Try again, mate.

And then he left Madrid and proceeded to lose as the prohibitive favourite every single year

But they did much worse in the cl with him missing a penalty, you've Ronaldo joining juventus made them worse citing 2 cl finals in the previous 4 years, despite a quarter final exit the season before Ronaldo joined. you seem to be using different criteria for judging Messi and Ronaldo, one might say biased

Was he the favourite every year? City have been the favourites every season since pep took over. Madrid went out earlier than Ronaldo the two seasons after he left

You seem to be describing yourself. well.Ronaldo's Juventus did much worse with him, going from 4 doubles in a row to declining immediately. Messi's team went from no title to immediately winning.

Yeah, bias and all.

Favored over all the teams that eliminated Juventus, easily. It takes a ranting lunatic Ronaldo fanboy to suggest otherwise. But here you are.

Ofcourse. And he was lucky to play for a team as dominant as Madrid, without which he wouldn't have won as much in Europe.

Im not sure i would agree with the word lucky, but rather fortunate he could join a club to match his ability after 6 years a slave.

And now again, found a Saudi team to match his amazing ambitions, after ranting about low standards in his Morgan interview.

Yeah, bias and all.

Juventus won the league Ronaldo's first two seasobd and went from a quarter final exit to two quarter final exits.

Messi went to psg and after a final then a semi they had two last 16 exits with him missing a penalty that would have sent them through in one.

Yes biased.

And was it not juventus's defence that let him down, particularly his first two seasons? He scored a decent amount of goals for them in the CL

Madrid went out at the last 16 twice the two seasons after he left, maybe suggesting that they were lucky to have him for so many years

Specifically saying he would never play in Saudi Arabia because he wants to retire with dignity.

Juventus went from 4 doubles in a row to never sniffing a double again. PSG went from 2nd place to a title (soon to be back to back).

Try again.

Madrid have won a UCL since he left them. He has never sniffed one since he left and joined a team that regressed as soon as he joined.
Try harder.

Psg had won 7 of the last 9 league titles and reached the final and semi of the champion league the two seasons before he joined, then they went out twice in the last 16. Given that you were willing to include 4 seasons prior cl final appearance to criticise Ronaldo, it's strange to only look at the league season immediately before Messi joined p

They won it 4 years later, I think they've spent about 600m since he left, you seem to struggle to understand how much a team can change in a couple of years

PSG were 2nd place when Messi joined and immediately won after he joined. Ronaldo joined a team that had won 4 doubles in a row then immediately regressed.

Try harder to come up with a better argument.

Good for them! The same core did win it again though while your hero never came close again.

I have. Messi joined a team that made the final and semi in the two previous years then they had two last 16 exits. Your initial argument was based on juventus's cl performances getting worse, why judge Messi on his performance in a much weaker domestic league

He joined a team that hadn't won the title. And now they'll soon have won it twice in a row.
If the domestic results had been the same, you'd have more of a point.

Try again.

Wait hold on, you said juventus had reached 2 of last 4 champions league finals. Why is Ronaldo judged over 4 years yet with Messi you ignore the 2 in 3 previous league titles to make it look like he didn't join the team in France with a ridiculous financial advantage

You keep harping on this. If their domestic results were the same, you'd have a better point. They went from 4 doubles in a row to err...zero doubles while Messi too PSG from 2nd to a title.

Try again.

Who cares? How many has Ronaldo won since he left Benzema, and how many has Karim won since Ronaldo left?

While you're clearly being disingenuous Ronaldo joined a declining side, one that has continued to decline after replacing him with vlahovic, and would have declined regardless of him joining.

So Ronaldo's performance in the coppa Italia matters more than Messi missing a penalty to send his team out at the last 16 to you? That's a bit odd

The irony of you calling anyone disingenuous when you dismiss the role he played in the immediate decline of the team he joined while the other won the UCL in the same period.

How on Earth Ronaldo avoided a red card for that chokeslam last night when Casameiro got a red for holding back an advance and aggressive player by his collarbone, i will never know. Ok we all know but it aint right.

Ronaldo and Messi's overall performances the entire season are what matter to me more than handpicking a match or two or a penalty miss.
