Agreed. The sad thing is that this is down to him, and him alone. If he had any sense of humility he would have stayed with us, accepted his role as a bit part player/super sub type role who could have been a huge inspiration to the young players. He could have retired a United legend.

Instead, his ego has ballooned to stratospheric proportions to the extent he thinks he should still be the main man at nearly 40, and now we get..... whatever this is.

But the issue is, you've got people like Roy Keane, supposedly a tough, uncompromising, no-nonsense type of person, who was fanboying over CR7 (a former kid teammate of his, FFS) and saying stuff on national TV like 'Ronaldo shouldn't be sitting on the bench.'

Erm, yes he should Roy, if he's freaking 38 years old. There might be times when someone that old needs to sit on the damn bench at this level.

All of this stuff from people in his circle, and people who should know better, feeds his ego.

Is the fortune he's "earning" worth all the embarrassment? He was already ultra rich before this and surely it has to be impacting his image and prestige. I don't know, I've never liked the guy, but this is all so pathetic I sort of feel sorry for him in a way.

Yeah I must admit I don't understand Keane's comments on Ronaldo. Keane strikes me as the sort to not be afraid of anyone, yet he refuses to speak a bad word about Ronaldo. It's almost as if he's afraid of getting on Ronaldo's bad side? Bizarre.

Does he have enough? Yes, most likely. But im sure he has financial advisors and when your career is about to end, more money is something you will rarely regret.

I think it makes more sense if you see it that Keane sees himself like Ronaldo in how he exited the club by talking truth to power and getting sacked, he thinks he was mishandled too by the club when he was ageing and the club showed no respect for him after all he’d done for it, wouldn’t be surprised if he was projecting that with Ronaldo.

Absolutely this. It looks like there’s absolutely no joy in his game. And why would there be in Saudi? Contrast to Messi in the USA, getting “the band back together again” with Busquets, Alba & Suarez…winning titles (albeit insignificant ones), but he seems to be enjoying the twilight of his career with some of his best friends. I suppose it would help if Ronaldo was actually close to anyone.

It's not the money, it's probably a stupid obsession with getting 1000 goals now. Presumably he thought he'd be banging in hat-tricks every game over there.

It is odd, isn't it? I think he just really admires Ronaldo's drive and dedication. But that shouldn't stop Keane from criticising him (if it is warranted), and he seems incapable of that for some reason, when he has no problem taking shots at literally anyone else.

He obviously loves playing the game, gets paid a fortune, gets the attention he craves etc. Having some random screaming manically Messi Messi Messi isn't the worst punishment in the word. Caf's obsession with him is bizarre, let him play out his career in a less than farmers league, hope he gets his 1000 goal dream and enjoys his retirement when he gets there.

Eh, he isn't leeching off of anyone. He makes content for his platform/audience (which isn't us - it's for a younger demographic), and the players are aware of this and are happy to participate because it gives them access to said audience of millions of kids. It's symbiotic. There's a disconnect between the content he makes/antics and people of a certain age - but again, we aren't his demographic - I simply posted the video because I agree with Pogba's assessment about that Ronaldo season.
