Cristiano Ronaldo (I stay)

Fair.

But walking into the dressing room and seeing some of the most respected and decorated players in Europe like Thiago Silva, Kante, Jorginho etc is a bit different than seeing Harry Maguire or Marcus Rashford.
Are you joking with this, Rapheal Varane was playing for Man utd last season, none of your players is more decorated than that guy and so was Cavani, Pogba, Mata, De gea and the likes. If you seriously think Ronaldo isn't going to cause major disruptions if things aren't going is way because Thiago, Kante and Jorginho are in the dressing room then I would have some of what you are smoking.

The point about Tuchel being the boss is also very funny, should your new owner make the Ronaldo purchase then you should understand your club isn't running on the same values it used to. Also if Tuchel struggled with Neymar/Mbappe drama, what he would face with Ronaldo's would be gargantuan especially if he has your owner's backing.

It only really started to look like we had a divided dressing room after we’d signed Ronaldo.
Spot on.

I still remember a lot of posters here talking about our togetherness and how our players looked like they really like and enjoy playing with each other the season before. There was even a good number of such threads if my memory serves me right.

That's Bayern and PSG out...he's gonna be served a healthy dose of humble pie this summer when Tuchel makes it clear he doesn't fit his plans the same way Lukaku didn't

True. Depends on how unhappy he is, though. He didn’t seem thrilled last season and he got 24 goals or whatever it was.

And regardless of his level of unhappiness, getting a proper replacement won’t get any easier. If he goes and we don’t sign anyone, our forwards will all basically be guys who prefer playing from wide, without even mentioning that they’re wildly inconsistent (and ETH’s masterplan to involve buying Antony, who seems like more of the same). At some point we’ll need at least one cnut who occasionally kicks the ball between the posts.

Exactly, back at his alma mater and on 500k a week and still a darkish vibe to his presence.

I'd say a front 3 including maybe Sancho Rashford and Antony for example, and three midfielders who can make and show for a pass and were immediately better off.

Not having that that static fulcrum. works for a lot of clubs.

He wouldn't be thrilled about coming 6th and not getting anywhere near a trophy though, and why should he be?
More of the players should be unhappy

So this whole saga may indeed come down to Tuchel saying yes or no, huh? :nervous::nervous::nervous:

. The most decorated PSG defender of all time and a regista with zero league titles. He’s got 5 domestic cup runners up medals, I guess

Michael Cox wrote an interesting little perspective on the Ronaldo situation for The Athletic. It's very light on detail, but I thought this was very apt:

By this stage, everyone has worked out that starting Ronaldo is effectively like starting with a one-goal lead but a one-man disadvantage.

Champions League winner. Euro winner with Italy. Voted in the top 3 of last season Balon d’Or. Rate him or not, his peers certainly do.
Tuchel already said no I think. So it's up to your new owner now.
Reporting suggests he’s on the fence apparently. Hasn’t said yes or no.

6/4 to stay at United, 6/4 to go to Chelsea.

Interesting times.

Kind of mad that he was always due to come back on Thursday and it was sensationalized to this degree, to be fair.

Yeah. This is what happens when self-image and reality stop matching.

In Ronaldo's head he's the greatest, he's 37 but feels 27, he can go on forever.

The rest of the world doesn't see it that way though. They know what he can bring but they're not willing to rip everything up to give him the platform to do it.

We're no longer talking about the 50 goal a season, 60 goal a season Ronaldo. We're talking about the 20-30 goal a season Ronaldo. Sadly for Ronaldo other players can offer that and they can also run and press and do things he used to do better but can't anymore e.g., beat defenders in 1v1s over distance on the counter.

With athletes like Ronaldo, who used to be great, they're always the last ones to accept that they're not quite at their peak. This summer might be a horrible wakeup call for him.

Wait, really? All this “he skipped training for 2 days” was just made up shite by the media?

So, it's Chelsea or no move?

Are we really going to allow him to go to Chelsea..
I don't think the club or Tuchel will let that happen tbf however much as the new American owner might want a sexy signing

Take it for what it is but Rio reckons there is a genuine family issue which is why he has not returned to training. This was on the latest 5 live video on YouTube.

I do not still understand why Man Utd is not trying to retain Ronaldo who would bring 25 goals if you sell who would bring those goals

If he's got legitimate reason for not showing up it's all fine however if he doesn't what I would do is fine him and keep him here against his will unless someone makes a crazy offer. Once again I say it's all cool if something really has hindered him but if not this behavior is childish, pathetic and should be punished.

United are totally having a better season than Chelsea next year - go there, I dare you Cristiano.

I can only assume he’s trolling given his activity in here and the selective comments he’s made.

A dressing room of serial winners that lost two cup finals and finished closer to 5th than 1st.

@Orc you seem heavily invested in what’s happening with Ronaldo…
I am, indeed. That multiple reputable journalists have said that he’s a serious option for us makes me very interested in this whole saga.

But if it’s true that he hasn’t actually skipped training and that we’ll see pics of him smiling at United training tomorrow I’m going to laugh at all these reports.

Yeah Ronaldo about to be fed a reality check. He's 37 now. Well run clubs don't want him anymore. Not with the expectations he has to play and be a key player always, not with the costs involved, not with the potential drama if he isn't a key player. Our best chance is to send him off to Chelsea because their new American owner has a hard on for a big name, because nobody else will be silly enough to bring him in.

My guess is he stays, and then goes back to Portugal next year.

He’s fecked himself here hasn’t he. Publicly shaking his arse at other clubs, only to turn around and find nobody is paying attention.

You’re desperate for a striker who can score goals so think the link would always be made. Issue being United won’t sell to Chelsea which I think makes it a non starter.

You would think so, but Ronaldo himself can put some serious pressure on your board here if he refuses to come in, no? There’s no way a brand new manager will want a huge distraction before you’ve even kicked a ball and have this massive dark cloud hanging above you.

I think he'll go to Madrid for free. Have a funny feeling. He'd still be a killer in the league there.

He’s under contract and United don’t sell players to rivals, least no their top scorer from the previous season. History tells us that.

If he leaves it won’t just be on his terms and it won’t be until we’ve got a replacement.

I’m sure Ten Hag won’t want the distraction but if he’s at United when the window closes Ronaldo will just get on with it. He’s professional.

1. He may very well turn up and see his contract out.
2. I wonder if the 25% pay cut because we're in the 2nd string Europa League has anything to do with the alleged strop.
3. There are a few clubs who could easily fork out the transfer fee but would have difficulty with the salary.

Yes, don't think there are any options at the moment which makes me wonder what Mendes and Ronaldo are playing at? Fair enough if he has a concrete offer in hand, but this isn't exactly a good look for him as of right now.

I’ll just say this, it is of course extraordinarily unlikely but until he himself comes out and rubbishes the narrative that he wants out I don’t think we can say it’s impossible.
