Cristiano Ronaldo (I stay)

I think Ronaldo, Mendes and whoever else is associated on that crack team, have really overestimated his desirability in todays market.

I’ll just say this, it is of course extraordinarily unlikely but until he himself comes out and rubbishes the narrative that he wants out I don’t think we can say it’s impossible.

I haven’t said it’s impossible he leaves but I’m pretty sure the club won’t let him move inside the PL.

People talk about this like United have no say for some reason when the opposite is actually true.

You’re desperate for a striker who can score goals so think the link would always be made. Issue being United won’t sell to Chelsea which I think makes it a non starter.
If ETH is happy to see him go and Chelsea are the only club to want him I very much hope that the United board don't block the move merely to avoid losing face.

Even with the rumours that Ronaldo is willing to lower his wage, I'm fairly confident Mendes was expecting far more interest.

Heck, I bet they were expecting major clubs to be breaking down the door to sign him.

Surely they would've sounded that out before going 'public'

Fair.

But walking into the dressing room and seeing some of the most respected and decorated players in Europe like Thiago Silva, Kante, Jorginho etc is a bit different than seeing Harry Maguire or Marcus Rashford.

Yeah Thiago Silva is really respected in the game with his crybaby antics. Jorginho? Pleez - if you think Ronaldo cares for him And for Kante we've got Varane.

I think EtH would let him go providing he gets a replacement. He won’t go into the new season without a number 9.

I don’t think the club will allow a sale to a rival though as it would look incredibly poor commercially. Even more so if he’s the difference maker in a top 4 battle.

Why not? Chelsea taking Ronaldo will only increase our chance of finishing top 4.

You'd think but it sounds like Chelsea are the only club who seem to be involved and even then there seems to be doubts that they would actually make a eventual move.

It wouldn't surprise me if, in their arrogance, that they felt ,what with Ronaldo's stature in the game and him coming off the back of a relatively individually decent season ,that teams would be flooding in with their interest.

We're not selling him to Chelsea.

That is 100% out of the question. As expected, Bayern and PSG weren't going to go for him.

Only Serie A beckons - Inter have Martinez and Lukaku (plus ruins rep with Juve). Milan? I don't think so, would upset their dynamics.

So he's left with United or Chelsea as it stands and the latter is not happening.

As much as I don't like Bayern's monopoly on the German league, I do admire the way they run their club if that report is true: 'Ronaldo is a legend, one of the greatest of all time, but not part of our philosophy, so we don't want'.

Over to you Chelsea. They must be the last club available to him at this stage, unless Real Madrid suddenly get nostalgic or Sporting spring a surprise.

Jorge probably has a few favours to call in at Madrid.

Madrid will go nowhere near him.

Why would they? They have Benzema having his best season ever and performing at a level higher than Ronaldo has done for many years.

Would mess with Vinicius too. Not worth it for Madrid at all.

If Madrid go for him, which I doubt they would, what happens to Benzema and Vinicius, do they both revert to being a support cast again ?

A penny for Benzema's thoughts if they did.

Hopefully he does a year at Chelsea, a year at Barca and then rounds it off with a year in Benfica.

Destroy that legacy, out-snake Di Maria himself.

Madrid just showed that they can win a CL without him, highly doubt they'll be in for him on the heels of Benzema becoming the best striker in the world and Vinicius blossoming into one of the best wingers as well.

I remember Ronaldo joining up Juve's preseason last season even though he made it clear he wanted to leave the club. I don't understand why he decides to skip preseason training now.

Why would he destroy his legacy if he decides to play for Chelsea?
Liverpool and City? He sure, public enemy one. But Chelsea?

Michael Cox wrote an interesting little perspective on the Ronaldo situation for The Athletic. It's very light on detail, but I thought this was very apt:

That's an interesting way to look at it. Maybe not 10 men, but like 10.5 men. A lot of luxury players are like that and they don't even give you that one goal lead to start the game, so /shrugs

I think he'll go to Madrid for free. Have a funny feeling. He'd still be a killer in the league there.

I think the Barca links were a way to get Madrid riled up - sort of like the City / United thing they pulled last season.

He’s fecked himself here hasn’t he. Publicly shaking his arse at other clubs, only to turn around and find nobody is paying attention.
The worst thing is I think we’ll just take him back with open arms when nobody wants him and our fans will scream viva Ronaldo until they’re red in the face again

We'll top his money back up to pre champs league failure, we'll sign a couple of players, and he'll stay on.

Milan just renewed Zlatan for another year I think. Together with Giroud they already have two senior citizen strikers so I doubt they’d be in for Ronaldo.

I mean we did the same with Rooney and a few other players already to be fair.

I thought it was a very neat summation of the two contrasting points of view on this very forum. He does get goals, but he also takes away from the team, and as Cox also pointed out you have to build around that to nullify the negative. To me, that's why we should let Ronaldo go, regardless of the other stuff; they shouldn't be building around a player that's here for one season. Better to move on and try to figure out the best way forward.

Benzema is coming off a Ballon d'Or worthy season, Real Madrid will not be moving for Ronaldo. They've moved on, we never did.

Yep.
Our social media team were celebrating him even when he was scoring and winning for someone else.

It's very weird not particularly caring about the outcome of this. People are insanely polarized. No room for grey area.

Of course I am going to cheer him on if he scores for us. Equally if he fecks off I'll be hopeful we sign an alternative or someone steps up. Opinions change fast. At the end of the season the vast, vast majority of the sub thought we would be fecked without Ronaldo and absolutely loved him/sympathized with him following his family tragedy. Now, everyone has forgotten about that and he is public enemy #1, the cause of all of our issues and wouldn't hit a barn door with a banjo. Pretty funny stuff.

They're actually working to extend Giroud at the moment too along with trying to tie down Leao who's become quite the hot commodity.

Don't think either Milan clubs have the room for him or ability to pay his wages

I won't be happy with him if he stays. But I'll certainly cheer him on if he is playing on the pitch. And hope that he does his best. We need goals and everyone to be at their best next season.

Assuming he won't start moaning backdoor, and causes tension in the squad. But that's a big assumption at this stage.

If he want to leave. Go for Patrick Schick from Bayer Leverkusen. A really good and skill full goalscorer. Really close to complete and top level.
Schick can hold up. 180 angle turn around and still have good ball control. Not much more you can ask for a CF/Striker. And Schick is really good in the air too.

Schick now how to hit the ball correctly. Both with feets and head.

I really enjoy his skill and football. Visual tell it better than words. So enjoy this video clip:

Schick will both solve short and long time CF hole to fill. Both short and long time solution. On his best age. 26 this year.

But best recommendation. Of a striker not playing for top clubs in Europe.

60 mill euro + adds on Schick should be fair price. 60 -70 mill euro.

Vlahovic to Juventus over 80 mill euros

Nunez to Liverpool over 80 mill euros

60-70 mill for Schick is a fair price for both parts.

In my opinion. Clearly better than Sebastien Haller from Ajax. In all aspects of football. Skill and finish.

Clearly good enough for any top 4 clubs in premier league. Really good teammates behind him and feed him. Give him top service. This boy will score 20 goals each season. Include the penalties it will be easily. Include penalties. His realistic target shall be around 25 goals.

+ Quick head and feets
+ Top determination
+ Composure, calm and really good with the ball
+ A really good finisher. With both head and feets.

My best recommendation.

I was originally 50:50 on this, but I realise now it’s just going to be a total circus this season if he stays, with everyone over analysing every little thing he says or does when he’s substituted or doesn’t play. If we reinvested into someone half decent, that’d be the best outcome.

What top club is going to go for Ronaldo in all honesty when he is 38 this season. Huge wages, Huge Ego, sulks when dropped or subistuted, expects tactics to be built around him, no where near the player he was. . Maybe someone like Napoli, Sevilla, Liepzig, Dortmund, Ajax and he will have to take a massive pay cut but any top club that can challenge for the champions league won't go near him.

I still believe we were the only genuine team (mugs) that were in for Ronaldo and don't buy the man City link and was just a ploy from Ronaldo/mendes to make us take action as it looked like we initially had little interest until man City links which has been a theme for years now with woodward and has yet to pay off
