Cristiano Ronaldo (I stay)

To be fair it must be weird/hard for Ronaldo to come back to this much less successful club where probably very little else has changed since his time here. He knows he only has a year or two left and we aren’t going to challenge for at least half that time. Fair enough. Let him off. We should never have made this signing in the first place.

Come on, Stevie Wonder can see what state the club is in, HE signed despite knowing this. Anything else out of his mouth is an excuse.

I hope he fecks off and steps on all the plugs whilst leaving.

I know people don't like the prospect of him going to a rival, but I'd rather him go to Chelsea than stay here, in all honesty. Staying here after what has gone on would be a disaster for us and ETH.

If United were ran by serious owners then they would demand Ronaldo to put forward an official transfer which means he would lose any bonuses tied to a deal. Then they would buy a top striker, they would get Belotti on a free and then they would ask a 20m fee for Ronaldo. In that way if Ronaldo is not able to get the fee United want then he'd spend 1 year on the bench. Let's see how many clubs he would be able to attract at age 38 and with barely any first team football for a year.

Do you promote from within?
It’s a massive risk, but is it anymore of a risk than splashing out £60m on a player that we’re only buying because you have limited options? We’ve tried that before and it rarely if ever works. I honestly believe we have some exceptional talent in our youth set up and we also have the manager who has a proven track record of getting the best out of young players.
Hugill and or McNeill could be the best options we have at the moment. The only problem we have is they’re replacing Ronaldo and I don’t think it would be fair to put that kind of pressure on two players who are so young and so limited in first team experience.
Ideally, yeah, but I don’t think we have anyone who is ready for that. Maybe in a year or two but the timing isn’t right and as you say, it wouldn’t be fair to put the burden of replacing Ronaldo and his goals. Tbh, having young kids means I don’t see much football outside of United games and certainly not much European football but there aren’t many strikers who look like the next obvious cab off the rank. And we won’t even having the luxury of buying solely for tomorrow.

If he wants to leave the club, then he has to leave as soon as possible. Problem is I can't see a CL-club buying him. He's on crazy money. I can see this saga dragging on.

BS from a BS source.
How is it a BS source? I know how much you don’t want this to happen but the guy was one of the first to break the news that Ronaldo wants out and he’s a friend of his by many accounts.

This is exactly what I want too - he shouldn't just given a free walk to any club

You could be right, but then it's not solely on Ronaldo: I mean, Mendes is a pretty sharp dude, normally. I can't believe he'd advise Ronaldo to come out strong with zero interest from anyone realistic.
Possibly.
Although it could be a case of causing discontent within Manchester United so clubs show interest.
I believe the only reason Manchester United want to hold onto Ronaldo is for commercial reasons, I doubt many in the board room would care if he was moved on for footballing reasons. Because of that there is no way would they even entertain an approach for his signature. Id imagine everyone concerned in this situation knows and accepts this to be the case. I’d even imagine “interested” clubs know this. By Ronaldo saying he wants to leave for champions league football, clubs who previously thought they’d have no chance of signing one of the biggest names in football may have had their head turns slightly. Its a risky tactic but one maybe he feels he has to use to ensure he gets champions league football.

If anything, it opens up a conversation.

Not what Ten Hag needs right now.

If this is not sorted before friday on Tour I bet it will be all Ronaldo-this, Ronaldo-that...

And therein lies the problem.
This is when you’d hope the clubs scouting network could find a ‘readymade replacement’ but we all know how useless they have been recently.
The question is. Do you take a risk on youth, do you go big on an established player on will only join for the money (Dybala) or do you hold onto an unhappy Ronaldo for one more year? For me, the latter is unthinkable and is the last thing we should be doing.

As with most things in life I think there's a lot more to this than meets the eye. People are questioning why he didn't drop this bombshell before the end, or just after the end of last season. Maybe this has as much to do with ETH as Ronaldo. I'm sure they've spoke and maybe ETH has outlined what he expects from Ronaldo in the coming season and Ronaldo doesn't like it. I don't really see ETH being enamoured with the prospect of accommodating Ronaldos ego or building an attack around him and shaping his tactics around a striker who plays for himself, solely out for the increase in his own numbers and not the holistic benefit of the teams goals.

I have a sneaky feeling this isn't the same drama for ETH deep down as it is seen by some on here and I doubt he'll put too much effort into keeping him should an opportunity to get rid arise. Yes, we'll miss his output but really, he's a fecking preening ballache and we'd be well rid (and I say that as a CR7 fan).

Best scenario, release him if he wants to go, and then snigger when nobody wants him! Sadly, someone will always want him and I doubt he'd be homeless for too long.

If I had my say, we just terminate his contract. However, according to reports, united want him to stay for next season, so this will drag on.

I concur with this, he can go to Chelsea, £25m for him would be a very good price.

Which is fair enough. Personally, I have very little faith in our ability to identify and actually sign players. I mean, our groundbreaking new approach basically seems to be handing control for buying players to the manager. A guy who hasn’t really had to fulfil that role before. I would tend to think we might need a proper run up to signing a top class striker.

I think so too - or at least I hope so.

And I also think - or hope - that Arnold isn't going to prioritize commercial reasons in this case.

As for Ronaldo himself - it's simple enough: if he's desperate for CL football...take a pay cut. Go to Napoli, say (if they want him) - or wherever.

This.
I wouldn't mind him going to Chelsea, he'll create chaos there as well, Tuchel will be forced to play him week in week out even if he's not suited to his playing style.
He will not strengthen them at all, marketing reasons aside.

Same here. But I'd even let him go for free. It's not ideal but still much much better than him staying and stinking out the place. Last thing ETH would need in his very first season. If he stays ETH might be out by Dec I'm afraid.

Would you take him back?
No. On LW he would impede the progress of Vini Jr, at CF we need Benzema who ties up the attack and the midfield to attack transitions, and at RW we have just given Rodrygo a massive new contract which means its his time to shine this season.

Real Madrid still post Ronaldo's old videos on Insta and FB ... His goals, his celebrations, his trophies ... He literally left us 4 years ago!!!
EDIT: On Saturday, Madrid literally posted his best CL goals.
Today Real Madrid posted his 2009 presentation at the Bernabeu in Insta/FB!

Can we all wait until there is a interview by Ronaldo or the club before deciding he is a goner or a traitor? We are only judging him based on media stories, with no solid proof to back it up. Until then, this thread is a waste.

The reports are from reputable journalists. No need to be in denial

The same ones which always say Ole has a dressing room crisis every single time he had a negative result. I dont deny that he is looking for a new club, but nobody knows the reasons and the media is just making up stories. Its also sad that the fans here just believe these stories.

We paid good money for him and we should recoup that money.

Absolutely.

But the transfer fee isn't that hard to recoup: if anyone's interested in Ronaldo, they surely can cough up - what - 12 mill (£)?

The salary is another thing - but that's between him/Mendes and the buying club.

If he insists on being paid what United are paying him...he's arguably delusional (but there's nothing we can do about that).

I would drive him here myself, my all Chelsea mates worry about the prospect of signing him.

I mean where's the lie? We clearly were in a total mess.

Every single one of them can feck off.. I dont mind starting from scratch ..

Yeah I feel the same. I also don't necessarily think it would be a good move for them anyway - they'd have to build the team around him, and if he isn't being picked week in and out he'll throw a strop. Happy for him to be Chelsea's problem.

Imagine how annoyed Benzema would secretly be if CR7 rocked back up at Real Madrid.

Finally gets his chance to shine and gets the huge, worldwide respect he deserves and then Ronaldo comes back and it’s all about him again.

I'd prefer a Barca move. The scenes...

By this point ronaldo has probably eaten up hundreds of goals off benzema.

I think he expect us to either give him a free transfer or pay some of his salary.

There’s definitely a risk of course, but I think we would be much better equipped to handle Ronaldo’s arrival than you guys were last season.

We have a squad filled with serial winners and some real leaders. Champions League winners, World Cup winner, domestic league winners. Unlike Solskjaer we also have a manager who is the undisputed boss and has the utmost respect from all the players.

Ronaldo wouldn’t be coming to Chelsea feeling like everyone else in the squad is beneath him.

Pretty sure Ronaldo thinks everyone on the planet is beneath him.

It's pretty damn weird and classless following a footballer's every move like that, I have to say. He liked a post, time to publish about it! Maguire should have just said "Yeah, I liked it, so what?" or something.

Fair.

But walking into the dressing room and seeing some of the most respected and decorated players in Europe like Thiago Silva, Kante, Jorginho etc is a bit different than seeing Harry Maguire or Marcus Rashford.
