Let's put Ronaldo's season into context, he scored about three goals more from centre forward than Rashford did the previous season from the wing (while injured). Was he really carrying the team? He has the worst pressing stats in the league, spending most of the season goal-hanging like a school bully who burned through more calories gesticulating than he did running. The end result was the team dropping four places and losing all coherence in a set-up seemingly designed to turn back time for one man and his ego.
Despite some fun moments for the fans and 20 or 30 seconds of additional material for Ronaldo's sizzle reel, it was an absolute disaster of a signing and a key factor in the wheels falling off last season. People suggesting he could get another Ballon d'Or need their head feeling, he's a fraction of the player who he once was and this was obvious 12 months ago. Woodward's final stab at Disneyland was no more successful than his first, delivering social media followers and shifting a ton of shirts with absolutely no consideration for football. Rio Ferdinand, Sir Alex et al should never be involved in this transfer, it's everything that's been wrong with this club since The Glazers took over.
All this nonsense about 'betrayal' and him loving or not loving the club, are you kidding me? It's Ronaldo, he's never loved anything other than himself. The 'pro's pro'? Is he feck. Does he train hard and look after himself? Yeah, professional in that respect, but look at his whining, the way he talks to his teammates, the tantrums and his late-career habit of walking out on his club. That's not a pro, that's a narcissist who's barely concealing their impending midlife crisis. Getting paid half a million pound a week and decides not to turn up to pre-season training? That's not professional, it's a disgrace.
We were nowhere near good enough to indulge in this Hollywood transfer and instead of elevating the team, it's destroyed it.
I could not care less where he goes.
