Cristiano Ronaldo (I stay)

I honestly don't think we will be worse off without him. Yes, he scored a lot of goals for us last year, but we scored far less than what we did the year before he came.

We do need to sign a forward since we would miss Greenwood. But overall, we might be better off in the long term, and might save the manager from squad disharmony in the dressing room.

If he goes to Chelsea he’ll get booed like crazy when he comes to old Trafford.

from constant viva Ronaldo to that. Doubt he cares though.

We won't sell to Chelsea unless he has a clause in his contract he can trigger if we didn't make top 4

Kudos to Ronaldo for having the guts to push the club and owners to start making the interminable transfers.
Let's wait and see.
He isn't thinking about the club's best interests, he's thinking about his own. He's a self-serving narcissistic weirdo.
Let's put Ronaldo's season into context, he scored about three goals more from centre forward than Rashford did the previous season from the wing (while injured). Was he really carrying the team? He has the worst pressing stats in the league, spending most of the season goal-hanging like a school bully who burned through more calories gesticulating than he did running. The end result was the team dropping four places and losing all coherence in a set-up seemingly designed to turn back time for one man and his ego.

Despite some fun moments for the fans and 20 or 30 seconds of additional material for Ronaldo's sizzle reel, it was an absolute disaster of a signing and a key factor in the wheels falling off last season. People suggesting he could get another Ballon d'Or need their head feeling, he's a fraction of the player who he once was and this was obvious 12 months ago. Woodward's final stab at Disneyland was no more successful than his first, delivering social media followers and shifting a ton of shirts with absolutely no consideration for football. Rio Ferdinand, Sir Alex et al should never be involved in this transfer, it's everything that's been wrong with this club since The Glazers took over.

All this nonsense about 'betrayal' and him loving or not loving the club, are you kidding me? It's Ronaldo, he's never loved anything other than himself. The 'pro's pro'? Is he feck. Does he train hard and look after himself? Yeah, professional in that respect, but look at his whining, the way he talks to his teammates, the tantrums and his late-career habit of walking out on his club. That's not a pro, that's a narcissist who's barely concealing their impending midlife crisis. Getting paid half a million pound a week and decides not to turn up to pre-season training? That's not professional, it's a disgrace.

We were nowhere near good enough to indulge in this Hollywood transfer and instead of elevating the team, it's destroyed it.

I could not care less where he goes.
Fantastic post. Hopefully his antics don't create unrest within the squad on the eve of preseason starting, nor spook any potential signings. He's such an arse.

Yeah the timing is a bit shitty, but then again everyone's been on holiday so there wouldn't have been much movement. I suspect Mendes has been speaking to clubs on his behalf for a while though, he's just decided to go public now most likely.
Even worse then. And yeah that's very likely.

Don’t drag this…. Either sell and try to find an alternative while we still can or tell him to get this ass back!! No one is bigger than the club!! Period!!

Oh and I thought all this time last seasons failures were down to an
- incompetent coaching team
- Maguire, Lindelof and wan bisssaka having their worse ever seasons in defence
- Mctominay hiding from the football and stinking the place up all season
- one of our best players involved in domestic violence
- anything to do with Paul pogba
- Bruno Fernandes having his worse season and playing like a petulant child
- Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford walking round the pitch all/half the season and contributing less than double figures in goals
- Edinson Cavani spending more time “training with Uruguay” then actually playing for Manchester United.

Presumably all these things happened because Ronaldo doesn’t press and is an egotistical narcissist though.

Greenwood is still a far bigger miss from a footballing perspective than the current iteration of Ronaldo.

Sell him to Chelsea and see how quickly they implode. My guess would be he would wear out their welcome mat by Feb.
Him to Chelsea will in fact help United in that top 4 fight. Sell him to Bayern or Chelsea and watch them deteriorate, just like Juventus before and United this season.

It will cement his place beneath Messi, Pele and Maradona

If he doesn’t want to be here they just have to sell him. Will be a massive loss for the glazers commercially but tough shite.

Have people been saying he does? I think we all need to move past this notion that players 'love' clubs. They'll go where ever they get paid the most and have the best chance of winning stuff.
Players do love their clubs. Xavi, Iniesta, Pique definitely loves Barca. King Eric, Scholes, Rio, Becks, Evra, the Nevilles loves United. It's not true that all players love their clubs. But also not true that all players don't love their clubs. Some does some does not.

I don't blame him for wanting to leave, if I was him I would want to leave too. That said he seems to have handled this badly, maybe he told the club privately at the end of the season that he wanted to leave but it doesn't seem like United were prepared for us which means we now have to get another forward and it's presented a distraction over preseason.

He's 37.

Not a single player should behave like that.

IF he has really asked to leave, IF it's not a strategy to get more transfers (for his agents) then he has to go asap, and with favorite destination Munich.

We should sort this asap, focus on the tour, creating a team spirit (or creating the team), having hopefully Malacia, Ericksen, Martinez and De Jong done this week, then focus on offloading him.

We all like Ronaldo, but if he doesnt want to be here, then take your stuff and leave. Situation is hard enough to wait until August 31and see if we can have a cheap striker...

I really hope this can be sorted in a week or so. Just leave, I honestly cannot take anymore saga's. If you want to leave, just get out, don't care which player it is.

Its not like any are worth fighting for anyway at the moment. Get rid, move on.

Funny and strange how many top tier teams want him at the age of 37/38.

It is not fair to blame him for our awful season. He scored some good goals.

Is he still worth the hype and was it the right thing to bring him to the club? Probably not.

To be honest I do not care too much if he stays or goes. He gave us a pretty decent season and while he was never going to be the solution to our bad status he more or less did his job. Completely different to e.g. Pogba who was nothing more than an expansive flop.

If the Hag is able to change the system and the whole way we play (which has been crap for nearly a decade) we will create a lot more chances and therefore score more goals, even without him.

But I hope he doesn't go back to Sporting -- too easy for him to bully and destroy his old club esp just when they were on the brink of collapse and have since recovered and done well. He would be a legacy builder and killer all on two legs.

Nail on head.

I dont buy this family crisis. What if no club buys him and he is forced to stay on, that would be weird for everyone..
On the other hand, if we are lucky and someone does buy him, that would generate some unexpected income, though not a great timing!

I cannot blame any player for wanting what they want, Rooney took a similar stance, show ambition or let me go.... (what we did was just give him a ridiculous pay rise which helped to break the player wage ceiling in England, but that is a different debate)

I also don't blame any player for putting family first, so if there is/was a crisis that required him to be in Portugal, well fair do's

But if he is supposedly rocking up at a training ground in Portugal, whilst getting paid half a million quid to be at carrington, well my feelings change somewhat

We cannot know what impact Ronaldo had on last season compared to how things would have gone if he had not joined, I guess if he goes and the likes of Rashford and Bruno pick up their form again people will attribute it to his leaving as much as to ETH or the new signings

At this stage though am happy for him to go anywhere, last season killed the romantic in me, the dread I felt reading the Ronaldo to City headlines now I fear would just make me slightly amused.

This is quite funny, though I do think he'll end up staying. This is him negotiating his way to assured starter roles in the new manager's team. He knows he'd be the first one on the bench under a manager who won't be in the mood to mollify star egos vs keeping his job.
