Cristiano Ronaldo (I stay)

Don't want to be insensitive but I believe the "family" thing is a cover by both player and club to avoid a media circus.
He might indeed have had some family issues but I don't believe for a second that has caused his two weeks absence. The club are even saying they have no idea when he will return.

Incorrect interpretation by the guy writing this tweet surely. Tuchel was referring to a 'nice try' by the journalist getting him to answer the question rather than a nice try by Chelsea to sign Ronaldo.
Yes but Ronaldo fan-bois live in an alternate reality where “professionalism” and “standards” mean screaming on the steps “WHY NOT ONE OF THE KIDS” after being taken off, storming to Portugal feigning injury when dropped and arranging meetings behind the captain’s back demanding changes of formation so let them believe Chelsea and Tuchel actually wanted him - it’s their copium.

How so? He just asked to leave. Why’s that a lack of respect?
Maybe not turning up to pre-season training is a valid argument but still the club has officially maintained that it was for personal issues. If it turns out it wasn’t, then yeah you can say for sure it was disrespectful of him. Till then not really.

The whole thing sucks. Bailing at the first opportunity, asking to leave, doing it days before he's due to return, the fact that it's messed with United plans, no intention to help United get back on top, using the 'family issues' (which yeah, might have been legitimate at the beginning but is just being drawn out to avoid going on the tour or showing his face again), the lack of information etc.

I'm not buying any of it. I really hope that no-one comes in for him. If I was ten Hag, I would not have him anywhere near the first team and grant him his wish not to play for United again. Bench him at best if another club does not come in for him.

Ronnie’s continued persistence for a move is not good for our upcoming season. If this continues into next week we need to bring in a suitable replacement. I’d very, very much prefer if he stuck with us this season because of his ability and lack of alternatives but this cannot carry on. I still believe that there will be a fire-sale next year because of the impending economic hardship.

Goodness me, you guys must really hate Ronaldo so much that you are hoping that somebody will take him away. Its like all of you wanted to release your hatred the moment you heard the "he is gonna leave" smokescreen story. What did he do to you guys anyway?

Regardless of the story, he is going to leave next summer as per his contract and he will be moving to Sporting as he promised his mother. This means you guys will finally get your wish next summer, so sit tight until then and support the club. Apparently we played 2 pre-season games if you guys had noticed.
We did. A shame you decided to miss them because your boy was absent ;)

Some fair points there. :)

But, personally, I don't get the need to add in insults like 'mercenary types' and 'diva' (your earlier post). That does come across as 'personal vitriolic sentiment towards him'.

I really don't see why he's a 'mercenary'. He's played in an era where players move clubs a lot. He spent 6 years here, 9 years at Madrid, 3 years at Juventus. This is the only time he might move on after a short period. He's given his absolute all for his clubs (and national team) throughout his career, in a relentless pursuit to improve and reach, and stay at, the top in winning sides. He could have moved to 'retirement' leagues offering mad sums of money - as many players do long before 37/38 - but chooses to stay performing in the top competitions, and for his national team, where the games, goals and victories really matter.
The mercenary comment is one I stand by - I genuinely don't think the man has any loyalty to his clubs. He was likely going to join City had we not swooped in last summer, and this summer he's been desperately trying to engineer a move to Chelsea. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that necessarily, I'm not naive as to expect the modern footballer to hold the same affinity and adoration for their clubs as fans do, but it makes it easy for me to want to be rid of him. I don't ever buy this idea that he 'loves' our club.

The 'diva' jibe was a reference to his low threshold when things don't go exactly his way. More specifically in terms of how he reacts to not playing every minute of every game and his reaction to be subbed/benched/dropped. Some will say thats a testament to his desire and love for the game, but then you compare him to the other footballing legends in the twilight of their career and how they were happy to be rotated for the team. Did Giggs or Scholes ever throw a strop when being rested or subbed?

I don't question his desire and professionalism in the slightest. I just don't have him down as a particularly likeable character, and would find it quite palatable or better yet - desirable for him to leave. Especially with our new era, new manager and new crop of players coming through.

Btw, Bayern's team presentation is today, so I would assume, that Ronaldo would be there, if Bayern was really interested.
Bayern is also going on a USA tour which he obviously couldn't join.

I just want there to be no truth in it.

Fair enough, I can understand why the whole thing is sour. For me I had already braced myself for his exit after not finishing in the top 4. His sarcastic laughs when we were being hammered away to Brighton on the last day of the season pretty much told me he wasn’t planning on being a part of the mess anymore.

Why not? There is no case anymore.

Eh? How would he be there until Bayern have agreed a transfer fee with United and then terms with Ronaldo?!

According to Fabrizio, one of the offers he received in addition to the Saudi one was that from an MLS club, so he can obviously travel and work in the USA.

This idea that he can’t step foot there is just another narrative being spun by the media. It’s crazy how many things can be created from thin air and if it gains enough traction, it’s suddenly taken as truth. The rape case was dismissed.

Cute Copium. It’s a done deal.

So in your book that gives him free rein to treat the club like shit for the second time, as let's remember, this is a guy who was being paid maybe close to 150 grand at the time and stated he was held against his will at the club and treated like a slave in order to force his way out, and now he is at it again, and we are just supposed to accept it ?

The thing you seem to forget, like the person you quoted said, most on here support Man Utd FC and not CR7 FC. And I wouldn't call it hate, as how can you hate a person you never met ? Dislike his attitude yes, hate no, not in my book.
Bayern are his only option - if Lewa goes they are a commercial club and a one year deal would be lucrative for them given Ronaldo’s branding. Basically have him for a year and let him plough in goals against cannon fodder BL teams and easier CL games and drop him for big games. Who cares if he tantrums on a 1 year deal. Then sign Nkuku.

Translate option is there but Bayern's most reliable journo, AFAIK, says it is "clickbait". Mendes trying to force a move/put pressure?

You think he’d be there chilling with the Bayern team before any agreement is in place?

"Nobody wants me?"

So true

I reckon:

Mendes had a chat with the chelsea owner, he was keen and said the money and wages wont be an issue.

Mendes took that as an OK and with ronaldos permission, briefed the exit request with an offer in the bag.

Tuchel said no thanks, and his opinion being valued by the new owners probably surprised Mendes.

Now Ronaldo is a bit fecked.

No one wants him
Loads would want him. 99.9% of those can't afford him or he wouldn't want to join them.
It's the handful that could - and that he'd join - that are ruling themselves out.
Hopefully that continues, and he stays with us for another season while we address the other areas this summer, and the first choice #9 situation next summer.
