Cristiano Ronaldo (I stay)

Being in the bottom 1% when it comes to defensive actions is a funny way of showing your desire to win.

Exactly. I wonder where his desire and mentality were when he was strolling around the pitch, barely fussed to press. No wonder we regressed to 6th place with him after finishing 2nd the previous season.

Commercial revenues didn’t see any significant jump. From what I recall the share price rose a lot higher in the immediate aftermath of his signing, but even that was nothing permanent.

Harry Maguire's dad has had enough of Ronaldo bullying his son :nono:

So you are going to send a message to all players that the happy hours are over, using our best outfield player as the example? The only player who has a desire to win, where all the other outfield players have no issues losing, as long as they get paid?
Have you forgotten the hattricks he scored for us. We'd have lost to bottom of the league Norwich had it not been for him. He is our best outfield player. No ifs. No buts.
We need Ronaldo to stay to combat the poor attitude which is rife in our dressing room. If he leaves, the deadwood players are the only players who will remain. The players that we can't sell because their ability is low and salary is high.
Ask yourself why no club wants him. He's already made it clear he is willing to take a paycut to join a champions league team.
Yet not one club is in for his signature.

If the transfer did not materalize due to no takers, you will see a spin of “CR7 loves challenges and loves United, he has decided to stay and bring the club up a level”

Ofcourse they would. They’re arguably the biggest club on earth. If Barca return to their former successes, is that somehow a black mark on Messi? And you’re missing the part where they were actually worse without him? They’ve won trophies but the side of the last 3 seasons aren’t as good as the sides with Ronaldo. They’ve been fortunate that Barca are a shadow of what they once were and they’ve underperformed in the CL in most of the time that Ronaldo has been gone which implies they didn’t really improve after him. Lastly, Ronaldo was always consistently in the top 3 assists in the team so clearly he didn’t just “score goals.” And even if he did, why is that an issue? It’s a team game, after all and that was his role.

And I don’t buy Benzema being shackled by Ronaldo. He was genuinely poor in some seasons like 16/17 & 17/18. Had nothing to do with Ronaldo if even Ramos amongst others were scoring more league goals than him.
I'm not saying that Real Madrid's success is a black mark vs Ronaldo. My point is that they replaced his goals with more solid team play. Ronaldo was the goalscorer but not the "be all and end all" of the team. They always had world class players from whom Ronaldo has benefited alot.

And let me correct you on one thing. With Ronaldo they were not really better than last seasons ucl winning side. Often they were outplayed but somehow managed to win as was the case last season. Think both finals vs Atletico, the semis vs Bayern amongst others.

I'd argue that Ronaldo, especially after the 2014/15 season, relied more on his team than the team relied on him. His goals also became more of 6 yard poachers goals and for a long period of time till he left Madrid, goals from outside the area (that he was famous for) were a rarity.

I do not disagree that he has had a fantastic career or that he is imo top 5 amongst the greatest ever but every player has a sale by date. Once Ronaldo reached 30 he became more and more a goal poacher and his contribution in attack has faded gradually to the point that if he doesn't score, he actually is a liability for his team.

Wtf? That isn't Harry Maguire's dad, his face is too small.

Edit; today I learned that some pictures aren't actually lifesize.

You can’t really reason with the CR7 fanboys. I agree with you, he wants to leave, let him on the right price. We can use the 15 to 20m his sale would bring in to bridge the FDJ gap. He is now a mercenary. Use him as such.

Just a quick one for all the "no one wants him" lot.
You know transfers don't just happen in seconds like in championship manager right?
Especially with us involved.

Wouldn't want to go into a new season with a player who doesn't want to be here, either. Particularly when we're talking about a player who, on a good day, can still have a major strop. I think going into a new season with him not wanting to be here, would be worse than going into a season with no replacement for him, IMO.
Completely agree. Having an unhappy and possibly disruptive Ronaldo in the dressing room would be so damaging. Last thing Ten Hag needs when he is trying to build his own team spirit in his first season.

Of course they don't.
But there is virtually zero interest in his signature.
The reasons as to why are obvious. He's 38 by seasons end, he will bring unrest to the dressing room if he doesn't play every week and when he does play, the team will have to play to his strengths.

People need to stop romanticising about Ronaldo. He's not the player or the person his "fan club" think he is. I can't wait to get rid of him.

Three or four years left at the top??
I'm pretty sure no one is going to want a 40 year old Ronaldo

That's the thing. No club that could help him win trophies would want him. Only exception is PSG because they're idiots.

There's only two clubs stupid enough to sign him that he might want to play for. We're one of them and the other has Messi.

The PSG link makes zero sense unless they're happy to be a footballing circus, which i'm told is the model they're trying to move away from. Good luck trying to press teams in the Champions League with Ronaldo AND Messi.

He doesnt want to stay. Keeping an ancient Ronnie who doesn't want to be here isn't going to do much good and will take Ronaldo FC to the next level.

Very weak links, they're going for younger strikers like Ekitike and Scamacca who work much harder for the team.

I must admit i'm confused and disappointed in him.

I genuinely believed he cared for the club. After all, I don't understand why he turned down Man City to join us when they could have guaranteed him titles. I understood that he was joining us over City because he didn't want to tarnish his legacy with the club/fans. Otherwise, why would you join United over City? It's not like he didn't know this was more of a project. It's the worst possible time for him to pull this crap too since we finally had the chance to turn a corner and lay down some solid foundations with a new manager and this is the last thing the club needs.

The player doesn't justify the disruption anymore. He needs to be more professional or a decade younger to be worth keeping. Only one of them is possible.

Definitely needs to go but I am struggling to think of where he can go. His wishlist limits him to a handful of clubs and none of them needs an aging striker or will want the circus that comes with him. I don't want him here though so if nobody makes an offer I would be perfectly happy if the club agreed to terminate his contract.

We won't let him go to Chelsea so unless Barca find a few 100 million down the back of the sofa he's staying. Only other thing I could see would be somebody like Milan fancying a crack at him but I think wages would be an issue. Doubt he's willing to cut his salary in half.
