It’s best for both parties if he leaves in the summer. In hindsight, it was a terrible decision to let Martial go. At this point we need bodies for that 9 position.

To think we had such a strong attacking lineup at the start of the season, we now have come to this. No Martial and Greenwood. Two strikers who are well past their prime, one of them being injured all the time. Lingard. Then we have Rashford who seems to have lost all desire to play football, and is a disgrace to wear the shirt on the pitch.

I think we should try and give more youth players a chance this season. Not sure if we have any promising strikers, but now is the time. Same goes for all positions.

Lets be honest, we don’t have much to play for this season. Might as well give youth a chance, and see one or two players coming through. Imagine this team without Elanga now. We’d have to play one of Rashford or Lingard regularly.

Let me make it clear.

We would have been challenging for the league title without Ronaldo this season

This is nonsense though. You can say Ronaldo hasn't been great or whatever but this is an awful take. What would our forward line look like with no Ronaldo? Rashford up front whos been worse? Bruno Sancho and pogba behind, although pogba has only been fit the last few games. No team that lost 5-0 at home to Liverpool like we did was going to challenge for the title

What a completely ridiculous take on the whole situation. Who said that? Has Anyone? Ever?

This is the Ronaldo performance thread. Ronaldo has performed shite...utterly shite... once again...so people are commenting on that. Full stop. He has been shite all season as far as I am concerned and I never for one second saw this working out. He is just not very good at anything anymore aside from finishing. I end up postingin here a lot...not because I am that disappointed in his performances (I’m not, I think he is really shit and feel sorry that such a formerly great player keeps falling over for no apparent reason!) I post in here because people turna decent pass on the halfway line into a great performance just because his name is Ronaldo.

He is all we have till the end of the season but for the love of god...let’s call and egg an egg...we should not consider for one second keeping him on the books as a starter on that salary next season.

If you put nostalgia and brainless worshipping aside, he's as much as a flop as Sanchez except sanchez at least worked his socks off and didn't create a constant negative drama around the club like ronaldo has.

A few times he received the ball, instantly lost it and either started moaning or just stood still.
He should have been subbed at that point.

The guy that made the thread saying Ronaldo would be a failure was right. It got ridiculed to hell, but it was the truth.

Man United, the best place for past it players to come and get a giga salary while being shit on the pitch because we never learn.

If we had of signed two midfielders possibly its all hearsay.

I would flip it and say if we hadnt of signed Ronaldo we would be out of the chamopions league long before the end of the group games.

And if we hadnt have signed him we would be seeing him for CIty every week and even in decline, create chances, he will score goals, imagine havin gto watch that every week.

One thing that is important and Im sure people will say "but yeah he has been rubbish so what difference".....with Cavani being constantly injured and the Greenwood situation, we would probably be left with Rashford up front and thats worse and dont bring up Martial for christ sake

Personally dont think he has been as bad as many are making out, thoughhe hasnt been great. But the wages and another year of regression, really next season there should be only a squad role for him and on those wages that isnt viable and Ive no doubt that isnt something he would want anyway

You say that, but I'm sure in his negotiations to come here he sold himself to us as still being able to do it, an he certainly expects to play 90 minutes week in and week out.

He is paid at a level that should demand more. So I don't think there is a problem that we should expect it.

This signing has become Alexis-esque in terms of damage it has done to the squad.
I agree. To add to that he's been talking about wanting to play at the top level for another 5 years maybe.

He shouldn't have played today. His massive ego needs to see that he is physically declining by the week. Rashford needs to start playing as a 9 which isn't ideal.

I'm cutting him a bit of a slack because Greenwood is gone and Cavani has checked out and puts himself way more before the club this season.

The guy said few days ago he still has 4 or 5 years left in him.

I hope he spends all of them in MLS.

The saddest thing is thinking about this lot as a group of names are an incredible set of talent....Ronaldo, Cavani, Martial, Rashford, Greenwood and Sancho.

Then thinking how disjointed and poor we look in attack for all reasons.

When you realize that United in past 10 years have given Rooney, Sanchez then Ronaldo all giga contracts while learning feck all from any of these mistake..you realize how hopeless this club is.

Next up : Pogba's new giga contract.

The man is deluded. His level is nowhere close to it at this point. I don't want to imagine what he'll be playing like in 5 years

We lack excellent alternatives, we can all agree on that.

But giving him 90 mins week in, week out is nevertheless stupid.

The only remotely likely scenario in which he remains at United next season as a genuinely valuable squad member is one that involves him playing far less. And that transition should start right now. We can and should try combinations up front that do not involve Ronaldo starting (and playing 90 mins).

If Ralf doesn't have the stones to bench him, he's not the man for us.

It's not about stones, it's about alternatives. Drop him for who? Bruno? So play Bruno, who himself is missing plenty of chances, out of position.

Juve were hardly devastated when he decided to leave. He scored a ton of goals but wasn't the standard raiser they'd hoped him to be. They've used the money saved on his wages to instead sign a surefire fit for the next decade in Vlahovic and are much better off now.

I don't think we'll be as lucky. Ronaldos overall performance has dipped significantly and he isn't scoring goals to make up for it either.

I know we don't exactly have an abundance of great and obvious alternatives (I said as much above).

I'm not talking about refusing to play him altogether. But he doesn't merit playing 90 mins as a default starter. Mix it up a little - see how that works.

And then - for God's sake - do not even think about giving him the same sort of role next season.

I’ve seen this hoped a few times, but considering CR7 came to United in the first place because, in part, PSG didn’t consider his agent’s offer to sign him last summer, I can’t see them changing their mind after these performances.
If that's the case, us Utd fans can hope the overlord goes over your football people's heads because they want Messi and Ronaldo together.

The really sad moment for me was towards the end when Sancho played him in from the right... And he struggled to get the ball under control, before trying to feint past their left back and the lad just took the ball off him no bother.

It's sad to see him slowly come to the realization he isn't all that anymore. It's painful to see a legend degrade.

Who has the stones though? Pochettino? Ten Hag? I can't see either of them benching Ronaldo too. It will be unfortunate if we are stuck with Ronaldo next season and are obliged to make him our starting striker because he's Ronaldo, but this is a very likely scenario

I’ve been been grimly hanging on to the hope that Ronaldo has just been out of form but today finally concluded that he’s finished at this level.

I don't know.

I just know that whoever is in charge of picking the team should have the stones to drop Ronaldo regardless of what he, himself, thinks about that.

And if someone above him says that Ronaldo must play, he should resign with immediate effect (because his working conditions are unacceptable).

Basically, if I were presented with a candidate for the post of "manager" or "head coach" (or whatever title is relevant) of Manchester United who was afraid to drop Cristiano Ronaldo for whatever reason imaginable, I wouldn't want that candidate anywhere near Old Trafford.
