We should never have signed him. Typical of this football club to take decisions with a complete lack of foresight. They are paid big money to get these decisions wrong and consistently screw then up. Now we're stuck with a 37 year old striker who we need to worship endlessly who has to start and will influence the type of football we play hindering the potential got genuine progression in our football. The club doesn't have the balls to sell him either.

I guess it was more important to stop him from going to City:wenger:

Cavani is on vacation. How much energy can he bring from South America? Did he do this at the start of the year too -- go home and stay for a while?
When he is around to play, he looks rather meh, btw.

I'm not happy with his off field forays while fit, but the club allows it and should be stopped. Yes his head probably isn't here, but I've never doubted his application when he actually plays. How many times has he even played as a proper number 9 under Ralph? He looked lost in 4-2-2-2 in a deeper role and we haven't seen him much since Rangknick made the formation switch because Ronaldo gets all the game time upfront

I don't think his legs are gone yet.

I think it's just terrible form. You don't miss a penalty because of bad legs. Hes just not in his groove.

Come on Ronnie, tear athleti a new one and keep this dream going just a little longer!

What's the dream?

The entire club has been swooning for a potential return 12 years after he left us.

Once it was remotely possible, everyone involved turned a blind eye and did everything to ensure it happens.

We are so stuck in the past.

The CL is several games away. Have you given up on him playing a big role in our charge for top four?

I said this before and i got pounced on by hordes of ronaldo fans. He hasn't got the legs to last 90 mins in england, he should be used as an impact sub for 30-45 mins.

CL is different, I'd start him in the CL.

He's trying to get involved in the build up more than he has in recent years but it's not benefitting us overall and his finishing has hit the yips.

Disneyland is on fire and the natives think it’s fireworks.

That extra half yard of pace is so important in the domestic game. Use him smartly and we'll reap the rewards, I reckon. He's far from done.

Last game sure but he didn't try one bit tonight. Then in the box he would rather try some pretty dumb shots than set up others. The Juventus former player that said he doesn't play for the team wasn't full of shite. I see what he means. He doesn't even have the quickness to justify some of those shots anymore, they almost all get blocked. Like can he just adapt already, he's no longer balon d'or level. Worst part is the last game showed he actually knows how but outright refuses to.

There's some parallels to another Glazer owned team - the Bucca and Tom Brady - where Brady came in at 42 and won the super bowl.

Unfortunately football in all positions except goalie is a lot more physically demanding than being a quarterback. Especially for Ronaldo - he used to run and dribble a lot in his younger years and it catches up to you. He was good in his first two years at Juve - he was still the Madrid version, but in his last season at Juve you could noticeably see a drop off in his touch and play.

Unfortunately for us we don't really seem to properly scout players, we just sign names.

A players ego that allows him to be a consistent starter at the age of 37 than just a player of the squad that is used when he is needed.

I always preferred Bruno's penalties aswell.

He is completely out of form, he just doesn't feel it. He is/was the best goal scorer of history of football, he will figure it out. I expect little changes in his running and movements in next few matches and hope for the best.

Ralf picked him

You would lose your job if you don't pick Ronaldo.

We saw the backlash after Ole dropped him for Everton.

SAF pressure, fan base pressure, probably Glazers too.

Ha. By the 103th minute I expect every starter to play like garbage and the subs to try and carry them.

Man is nearing 40, maybe he shouldnt play ET. Neither did Scholes later in his career.
The person who complains for being subbed is not me, is not you - it's Ronaldo.

We need to stop bringing in semi-finished players for one last big payday. It rarely works. United should be built on youth.

Ronaldo coming back and lifting a trophy with us. A club legends return. That's the dream.
Okay I'd rather us win the premier league regardless of who lifts it than settle for Ronaldo winning the Europa/FA cup with us (although I'd take anything right now given our drought).

Weirdly phrased as if accepting the Ronaldo deal meant forfeiting the premier league.

In the current situation we can't win the prem so I'm just hoping we win the CL and if we do it with Ronaldo then that would be special on many levels. Which is why I'm hoping he can somehow overcome this bad run.

Foolishly optimistic I might be but I reckon we'll see some stellar champions league performances.

The only benefit from signing Ronnie, is that he didn’t sign for City. But we’ve been mugged off with an awful deal that has formed an imbalance across the team. Needs to be dropped.

I disagree actually, I don't think that was a benefit. Signing for City and playing like this would have given Guardiola a heart attack in his whole system. Ronaldo would have been dropped and caused a massive fuss, getting all the PR stops to discredit Guardiola as a manager. It could have caused serious divisions in their squad.

What difference would Ronaldo have made to City? Best case scenario, instead of winning 15 games in a row 2-0, they would win 3-0? City have been as good as they've ever been without him, they don't need him and they never needed him.

Difficult not to agree. Ronaldo is not Guardiola type of player so it would have actually been very destructive (even more than for us) if he had joined them in the summer.

No one can fool the time even Cristiano. He is 37 already and even though he can still offer a lot, he is just a shadow of player that he was when he initially played for us or RM.

Notwithstanding the above, he is still one of the better players in this team so it is up to the manager to use Ronaldo as best as possible.

On the pitch you’re obviously completely correct, off the pitch though signing a living legend like Ronaldo and leveraging his 400m+ Social Media Followers would have been a massive boost to City’s true quest of using the emotional power of football to legitimise a horrible state regime. This might have been worth even more than another title.

But but how about our media coverage, our share prices, our sponsors, our marketability, our shirt sales, how SAF would feel etc. :wenger:

Let's be honest the club fully deserves the current shitshow. And the ones who still worship Ronaldo too.

He's so bad now I don't even want to shit on him anymore. But it still amazed me that how on earth he failed to score with all the services offered to him last night. He couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo. And how we let him on the full 120' was mind blowing :wenger:

What's worse is he'll be here for another 18 months. Who the feck else would be stupid enough to pay him 500k a week and start him every match :wenger:

Ronaldo still has a lot to offer any team but he is a shadow of his former self and would do well to realise his limits that have come with age. He has to humble himself, play for the team and stop chasing records now. He was genuinely pissed off when Sancho scored and not him, this is sad.

Once top 4 is gone, he will leave start sulking. Be asking mendes to find him new club.

He isn't going anywhere, he will in United next season.
Teams like Bayern,Real Madrid,PSG, don't want him at 37.
He has nowhere to go, except Sporting Lisbon, but i doubt he will resign so much money to go there

Yeah I can't argue about that aspect, also City's attempts to buy Jack Grealish and Harry Kane in the summer I feel was based on building their popularity in the media in England as much as really improving their first 11.

Don't worry, once we get knocked out of the CL by Atletico and finish in a conference League place, Ronnie will want to leave. Silver lining and all

He seems rusty, nervous and out of form but he just has that X factor and can still score goals.
Problem with him is his selfishness, he almost never passes to anyone regardless from where he is in the box, he always tries to shoot. And it seems others seem to do the same thing as well.

Cavani has barely been played this season due to fitness issues or simply being overlooked due to Ronaldos presence. However you'd be disingenuous to suggest Cavani even now doesn't possess more of a skillset that we need in a CF in the system we're trying to play.

Cavani brings more energy, presses more, creates more space for his teammates and generally causes more havoc in the box than Ronaldo does. If he played today in his usual role I'm sure we'd have put the game to bed. Ronaldo has never been the complete CF, just a goal machine hybrid who now offers very little off the ball.

Cavani would have been a great option for 20 minutes late in the game tonight, as he will be on Tuesday. But that’s all he’s got now. Ole knew how little he had in the tank, which is why it always seem as if he was under-utilised last season. The guy has been completely ineffectual when starting this season and pacing himself to play at least 60 minutes. Zero threat.

The lionisation of this part-time footballer is one of the more bizarre aspects of United online fandom right down. People keep ignoring the actual “what” of when Cavani does play, to imagine a “what if” whenever he is injured, tired, unfit, not ready to start the season, on international duty, having time off with family etc…
