Cricket

I take it you're still bitter that I called you out on talking shit about Rohit Sharma.

Me?

I don't think we've ever had a discussion about Rohit.

I don't think anybody's saying he's not an excellent batsman with potential to become one of the greats. Just that it's a bit premature to start calling him India's second greatest ODI bat.

I think he's mate.

The way he builds his innings, and after that how he accelerates it's a treat to watch. Such a match winner.

Fair enough...matter of opinion I guess. I haven't seen enough of him to fall in love (just general lack of watching cricket) but based on what i've seen, as i've said, I'd still rate Ganguly and Dhoni over him. Even Yuvraj would have a shot except for his inconsistency.

I hate Kohli's guts but he is a brilliant batsman. It's a pleasure to see a player of his class. Haven't seen any batsman destroy Malinga like he does. There are probably not that many good bowlers going around these days compared to a decade ago, but we don't see this point being brought up when we praise someone like Amla, so I don't know why this has been brought up. He is well on his way to becoming one of the limited over legends. 16 ODI centuries already . How many matches did Sachin take to break Haynes's record of 17 ODI centuries by the way? Just hope that he starts turning it on in test matches too.

Because Amla's class is shown in test cricket, where there are still some good bowling units around.

Away to England, away to Australia and away to India, he's delivered.

In 2 out of those 3, he made a triple and a double.

Don't think there's any comparison.

But aren't we talking about Kohli's limited over record?

I think no one's really calling Amla a great in ODI cricket.

I misunderstood you, I guess.

Kohli has an average of 58 in SA, 54 in Australia and an average of 47 in England. That's pretty excellent.

It's a pretty weak argument if you're trying to discredit him because the bowling standard isn't great, by that logic Amla isn't that great because he hasn't faced two of the top three great fast bowlers in world.

It's great but none of the team barring SA (and even Steyn is not that great in ODIs as he is in tests) have great bowling attacks.

I'm sorta with zing here, he can go on and be the second best but so far I won't put him there. Ganguly faced the likes of Wasim, Waqar, Donald, Pollock, Warne etc and it was then when he formed that brilliant opening partnership with Sachin.

It's a shame that bowling levels have declined as it gets held against a lot of brilliant batsmen but then it is unfair to those who performed against better opposition to not give them credit for that.

All this is not to say Kohli or other current top players would have failed back then or anything just that is at least not level field.

Think the match is still not over in SA vs Pakistan.

Trail by 63, but Faf and AB at the crease.

Pakistan is like India right now. Crap away, great at home(neutral but pitches are made according to PCB's needs so it's home)

Apart from SA, doesn't that apply to pretty much every team?

Is this game being shown in England?

The UAE is a great cricket venue imo. Just ahead enough of England enough that its morning for us when they're playing and evening in Austrlia, amazed the ICC didn't have the first test championship there.

Especially as they're based in Dubai.

yup probably true.

Let's see how England performs against Aussies next month. The fact they weren't even close to their best and still defeated Australia comprehensively in England speaks volumes.

Chasing 40 to win, we're 13/3. Typical cnuts.

The bowling's been unreal in fairness.

Philander is just such a good bowler when he gets it right, McGrath esque accuracy at times.

Good win against the top ranked side with a day to spare. Well done!

Pakistan are a strange side. Lost to Zimbabwe, which ended their long losing streak and then beat the Staffers, ending their 15 test unbeaten run.

I used to lose money betting on them, I decided never again years ago.

Kohli playing well.

Raina has really regressed a lot, because of pigeon holing him as a #6 finisher.

Why don't they give Pujara a shot at #4?

It's annoying when Dhoni goes into block mode like this. Just hope Kohli doesn't do anything stupid with him being starved of the strike.

Raina is hilariously bad against the short stuff. The fact that he hasn't improved upon that is ridiculous

They've ruined Raina by playing him as the #6. They should've played him at 4 in 2011 after the WC. I want Rahane in the team but it looks like they've fecked up his confidence aswell.

Raina is not a #4. #5 at a stretch but he's not cut out for anything higher

For limited overs he's good enough. They should've developed him rather than stagnating him.

To be fair, if not for Raina at #6, we wouldn't have won the 2011 WC, IMO. Crucial innings versus Australia and Pakistan.

By that time, he was already ruined and had converted into a #6 slogger.

I can't believe what I just saw.

It's hilarious when you see criticism like this about Dhoni.

He comes out, rebuilds the innings when his side are 4 down and the next bat is Jadeja takes the game as deep as possible and then slaughters the bowling in the last few overs.

He's done it so often and people still criticise because he's 30 off 50 at one point?

Not really.

When he came in Kohli had faced about 30 balls. Few over later Kohli had faced 35 balls and Dhoni himself had faced 30+ balls. Slow scoring wasn't the issue as much as the fact that one batsmen was getting starved of the strike.

Great innings though

What a shit day. Tuned into the cricket to be treated to highlights of Ishant's great over. He must be the least improved international cricketer ever. He just keeps getting worse.

I think Ishant today showed what everyone thought was going to be the outcome in the Champions Trophy final.

I remember Ishant bowling a brilliant spell to Ponting a few years back, Ricky looked absolutely clueless for a good hour or so. I thought at the time he'd be an incredible bowler. I was wrong.

The Aussies really should try Bailey at Test level, surely he can't be worse than Hughes.
