Cricket

India seemingly providing rubbish warm up preparation for England, but Pietersen got a ton up.

SA and Aussies playing their test series from today. Usually a very good and competitive contest between these two.

Great review by Australia. Smith gone, 29/1.

Good to see Pattinson playing cricket again, very talented bowler IMO.

How on earth will SA replace Kallis?

You don't go replace players, you adapt. South African cricket will.

Amla has been absolutely brilliant over the last couple of years. Love his on field demeanor, just got about doing his job without too much fuss, like Dravid. I credit the series against India where he scored two centuries and a double that catapulted his career from a good one to a great one. We are great in making other teams batsmen. Atapattu is the another one that immediately comes to mind.

This is the best series in world cricket. I hope that South Africans give the Aussies a real hiding.

SA in an excellent position. ALthough, I wonder if they'll regret not picking a spinner.

Agreed. It's a big disappointment that this is, once again, only a 3 match series.

It is a shame really. The two most professional teams in world cricket should play a 5 test series. This should get a higher billing than the Ashes or the India-Pak matches.

How on earth will SA replace Kallis?

We won't. It's like trying to replace Keane or Scholes, it just can't be done.

Bad news about JP. He is going to be out for quite a while.

Another century for Kallis (his 44th) and Amla got one as well. Quality players, the former a legend of the game.

SA should up the scoring rate, they've already lost 1 day of cricket to rain.

Comfortably the worst top 3 that Australia have put out?

It's like watching a T20 match.

218 not out from Clarke means the first of only 3 tests will be drawn. SA probably regret not having the spinner, although they've been unlucky with Duminy getting injured.

Not sure if Duminy is out for the next test. If he is, it'll be interesting how SA go and whether they bring in a specialist WK to play instead of Duminy.

Duminy's gone for 6 months minimum with a ruptured achilles tendon, Dean Elgar is the replacement player

Didn't realised Australia had declared. Bit of a lead, but this game is going to be a draw. SA just need to bat out the day without collapsing.

Beautiful delivery from Kallis! Brilliant.

Aussie top order fails again, 55/3.

Kallis has injured himself. Big blow for SA, especially with Philander getting injured before the start of play.

Aussies seemed to have steadied the ship slightly now. But these crap starts with the top order heap the pressure on the rest of the team

Lost warner now, so things should slow down for a bit at least. Hopefully the Aussies can keep the run rate up without losing anymore wickets

Bangladesh and West Indies:

No. 10 Abul Hasan's debut ton revives Bangladesh: 100 not out, 108 balls, 3 x 4s, 3 x 6's
  • Abul Hasan's unbeaten 100 is the second Test century by a No.10 batsman on debut.
  • The previous such effort was in 1902, by Australia's Reggie Duff, who was actually a frontline batsman who was held back due to a sticky wicket at the MCG.

West Indies bulldozed through the first eight Bangladesh wickets on a flat, low and slow Khulna pitch. In came debutant Abul Hasan, all of 20, and proceeded to do something that had been done only once before in 2059 previous Tests dating back to 1877, by Reggie Duff over a century ago in 1902.

Abul, who goes around as a fast bowler, became only the second Test debutant to make a hundred at No. 10. Abul's incredible innings, and his record unbroken ninth-wicket stand of 172 with Mahmudullah, himself on 72, rescued Bangladesh from 193 for 8 to 365 - 8 and left honours even on day one.

wow, talk about dragging your team back into the game. Bit of a dream debut for him, particularly if he can now back it up with his bowling.

South Africans take choking to new levels when they play in the World cups or against Australia.

Eh?
They won the series last time when they played in Australia.

Micheal Clarke, wow!

I thought Clarke was one of those guys whose reputation was enhanced after playing India. This is unbelievable, the scores he's put up this year.

and Imran Tahir is a disaster, isn't he? This could be his last test.

They are scoring at 5.5. What the feck is going on???

Wow! They actually did. Though lost the return series a few months later by the same margin.

It's painful watching arguably the best attack in the world taken to the cleaners in this fashion. Allowing the opposition to score at 5.5 in test cricket for a full day should be a criminal offense. This is unbelievable.

SAF total meltdown.

Kallis took two wickets then tore his glute. Gone for the series they reckon.
Then Steyn went down for a good portion of the afternoon as well.

Clarkey is just majestic though. Absolutely amazing this summer.

Oh and Tahir, jesus christ. I roll the arm over better than that guy and I bowl offies. I thought Lyon was shite...

Really? What happened to him?

Captaincy (and the break up with Bingle) seems to be bringing the best out of Clarke.

double century to clarke and hussey has reached 100 as well now.

Apparently 494 is the record score for the first day of a test match. Australia currently 472 as I type this

Not sure, saw him working his hammy then when I came back Kleinvelt was getting smashed.

I think he sorted his back issue out as well. Worked on a few technical flaws to do with his ailing back and now he is just unreal. Magical player and most of his innings are coming under huge pressure as well.

nearly 500 runs in the first day, not something I was expecting when Australia was 3 wickets down early on. Hopefully the high run rate keeps going tomorrow. Its been an entertaining day
