That pitch didn't deteriorate to the extent that both sides could be bowled out so cheaply in the final 4 sessions. Useless batting from Pakistan as usual.

Also trying to follow games on the 'new' Cricinfo design is a nightmare. I miss the simplicity of the old site.

Herath has 400 Test wickets, 100 against Pakistan

Genuinely surprised by what's happening SL-Pak series, we just played them recently and I haven't seen such any one-sided series like that which includes India(and I've seen us play against Zimbabwe, Bangladesh etc). How on earth are they dominating the series against Pakistan?

Purely because of the baffling decision to play just the one spinner in both games. You can't play one spinner anywhere in the subcontinent. As a consequence Yasir has been used as a donkey and already bowled 130 overs within 2.5 innings. They're used to him by now and he's getting tired so is obviously very ineffective. Plus seamers are always ineffective in the UAE.

What? It's staggering that they're playing one spinner in UAE, stupid stuff considering the carnage Ashwin and Jadeja did against that same batting lineup just two months ago.

Any other Indians a little rueful that these obvious changes in the line-up shouldve been done in prep for the Champions Trophy?

We would've won the thing with the current 11, imo.

Does Shan Masood have pictures of the Pakistani selectors? How does he keep getting picked?

Jadeja and Ashwin are the two best spinners at the moment, not sure Chahal and Kuldeep would have fared any better. Getting rid of Yuvraj may have helped. Although, he did have a really good series against England earlier in the year.

I disagree. Jadeja and Ashwin are the two best spinners in tests cricket. In ODIs, especially on flat tracks which we saw a lot of, wrist spinners are very helpful. We're at a point in ODI cricket where the only way to throttle run rates is to take wickets and wrist spinners offer an attacking option.

I do not know about Chahal, but Kuldeep would have made a big difference imo.

I’ve not followed the second test at all... how the feck do SL go from 400+ in the first innings to 96 all out in the second

Pakistan will no doubt lose. As good as Babar is in limited overs, he’s really poor in Test cricket. Still very young so hopefully he can improve in the longer format & the PCB manages him properly.

Our selection for T20 is incredibly poor. Not sure why Dhoni keeps on playing. Get Iyer, Krunal Pandya and Pant instead of Pandey, Jadhav and Dhoni.

Test championship & ODI league approved by International Cricket Council

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/41605940

Plans for a Test championship and one-day international league have been approved by the International Cricket Council.
Nine teams will play six series of Test matches over a two-year period - three at home and three away - culminating in a world Test championship final.
A 13-team ODI league, introduced from 2021, will now be used to qualify for the World Cup.
The ICC has also given the go-ahead for a trial of four-day Test matches.

There are issues to consider here. Firstly, cricket matches as a general rule aren't rescheduled if postponed so there has to be concerns over weather forcing matches to be cancelled. Surely if they're calling it a Test Championship then all teams need to play the same number of matches.
The ODI League makes little sense to me as I can't see what benefit it brings over the current system of qualification for the World Cup. Finishing top of the League really means nothing as teams will only be bothered about grabbing one of the qualification spots which I assume will be top 8 maybe?
As for four-day Tests well that's just another nail in the coffin of Test cricket. It's all very well in theory because there seems to be more matches finishing early these days. However in a four-day match the loss of a day, or even part of a day to the weather will mean an almost certain draw. I don't see why they can't just leave the 5th day as an option. They will attempt to increase the number of overs bowled in a day but over rates are generally well below par and it is rare anything is done about it.
Overall well done ICC for trying to shake things up but I think it needs re-visiting.

Don’t like the 4 day Test match move. Would like to see some series played overseas (India v Pakistan in England please)

Qualifying for WC is stupid.

My preference is for five day tests, but I need them to be stronger on over rates to make a 4 day game work
Time to start bringing in run penalties for slow over rates, start in 50 over cricket, make it really punishing, like bowling all the over plus a ten run penalty per over

Quite like the changes tbh. Cricket needs to make changes to test cricket to make it more watchable outside of the ashes and this way everyone stays invested even in neutral matches where your own team isn't playing.

Babar is ridiculous in ODIs, 7 centuries in his last 18 innings.

Mentioned it last week that it's crazy how good he is in ODIs when compared to his Test form. He seems the type who has the mentality for Test cricket, but has struggled so far in that format.

Shadab is a real talent. Love watching him bowl.

Pakistan with a good win. They really should be using the LED light stumps as standard in all ODIs/T20s.

SL also agree to playing a T20 game in Lahore. Good news & hopefully we'll see more games played there over the next year.

Comfortable win for Pakistan. Inzy’s nephew getting a century on his debut. Hopefully it means Ahmed Shahzad fecks off for good.

Hasan & Shadab impressive with the ball again.

Century #31 for Kohli in his 200th ODI - only Sachin ahead with 49. Good knock in tough conditions - dry, humid weather with a slow surface and Boult bowling beautifully (finished with 4/35, best by a NZ bowler in India). Scored 121 with next highest at 37.

India play a tonne of ODIs in the next few months. IIRC home to Sri Lanka, away to SA, away to England and whatever random series' in between. Could get to 40 by next year.

There are two more left vs NZ, then there's 3 vs SL, 6 vs SA and 3 vs England. That's only 14 ODIs over next 12 months and he isn't scoring 9 centuries especially with 9 matches in South Africa and England.

NZ just whooped us. Latham looks a class act. It was a flat pitch, our batsman were poor.

Another left-arm fast bowler in the Pakistan ranks taking wickets

One thing I've liked recently is that we are giving youngsters more opportunities & they're repaying that faith with some excellent performances in ODIs. Credit to Inzy & Mickey Arthur.

just saw he took five wickets, has he been that good or lanka poor? Need to discover a right arm fast to mix it up too

feck Pakistan and their everlasting reserve of bowling talents.

Not seeing these matches but Lanka was the poorest team I've ever seen India play in the last decade or so.

And yet we lost to them in the tests

I havent seen this match but they have been terrible in this ODI series too, no idea what happened to them.

feck Pakistan and their everlasting reserve of bowling talents.

Would trade you usman for pandya

In the most important news of the year Moeen has signed a new 5 year contract at Worcestershire. YAY.

Wasn't expecting Moeen Ali's name to be on the top of this list. Nearly 150 strike rate WTF?
