Cricket

Should Perth face any sanctions for this pitch? It's a disgrace. At least Indian pitches disintegrate on the 5th day...

Johnson announcing his retirement from international cricket after this game. Fantastic player, particularly in the latter part of his career.

At his best he was one of the most destructive ever seen.

Probably a bit like clarke in how hughes' death affected his playing style with less bouncers and a drop off in pace. But it is the right time for him to go.

Cricket Australia probably wanted the flat pitches to boost revenue.

WACA and the gabba have been too flat for too long

This game had lost its charm once this pitches had been made too flat, there is nothing much for the bowlers these days.Terrible time being a fast bowler.

Thought he would have at least waited till the end of the series if not 12-18 months down the line

Its more about revenue than safety issues imo.

Yup, they know the Pakistani board is desperate for us to have a series with them and that's why to maximise their resources, they want to host it in India.

They should say that then, the argument seems a bit stupid and dishonorable given that they had already agreed to it.

Yeah, thats what I figured but was hoping that there was a logical explanation too.

Well shame on you for expecting BCCI to do the honorable thing.

A joke that the PCB agreed to that.

How come?

India V Pakistan rivalry isn't what it used to be - but anytime these two countries play (regardless of the format) it's good fun. The players...the fans...everyone just cares a little bit more.

So even a series with no tests is better than nothing, right?

Sri Lanka can't sell out their own teams matches and now they're wanting to host to (slightly) foreign nations (although I'm coming from an Indian fan perspective).

I've always found cricket very boring to watch when played in Sri Lanka, and now the biggest game in the sport is set to be hosted by them...

As for @MJJ's response, playing this in UAE would be awful, too. Although, better than it being in Sri Lanka. If it were up to me, I'd have Australia or England host a series, which would be an instant sell out (and allow me to watch a game).

Nae, its more that the BCCI agreed to play the series in Pakistan's home ground (UAE for now). They then wanted the series played in India due to security issues but Pakistan disagreed to it. PCB should either have made sure the series is played at a home ground for Pakistan or walked away.

Its more about it being played at Pak's home, rather than a country in particular. I just find it laughable that the PCB backed down and agreed to a neutral venue given that the BCCI had already agreed to the former.

Yeah, I understand. The BCCI can quite easily compensation PCB or the associations in Dubai, regardless, so they couldn't care less. They're greedy whores.

Ahh ok - so the beef/disappointment is to do with the location.

We live in crazy times. Maybe the PCB feel something is better than nothing? BCCI is incredibly strong after all - can't really see any cricketing board going against them and coming off successfully.

Yeah this explains it better, also how I first learned about it.

Ok, so a MoU was signed - so a 'commitment' of sorts.

feck knows though...I kind of feel sorry for Pakistan...unable to play at home, but then I guess no one wants to risk it after the SL incident.

I see that it states, India wanted Pakistan to visit - would that be viable? I vaguely remember seeing something about a couple of Indian groups resisting Pakistani artists/poets visiting a couple of months ago.

They probably wouldn't do anything violent - but it would potentially be very tense.

PCB arent even arguing that the game should be played in Pakistan but rather in UAE. Indians want it to be played in India because it will be safer than UAE(dont ask) but obviously the PCB are saying no due to a variety of reasons.

That will be shiv sena.

Sri Lanka is one of the dullest place to have a series ffs. Anyway, if the series doesn't have tests, it is hardly one to look forward to. On plus side for SL, they will not have to worry about pulling crowd for limited overs format.

Personally it would have been better had the matches just taken place in UAE rather than SL.. Watching the Sharjah series as a kid was always exciting, the crowds were great.. No India - Pak series is worth it without the crowd, I feel it's them that make each match special..

Anyone caught much of it?

Got to admit, I was sceptical but its been a resounding success so far. Pink Ball is holding up well, theres a contest between bat and ball. Fans are pouring in (although that was inevitable because its novel) but more importantly fans are enjoying it.
