Cricket:India's tour of England 2011

Brilliant from England, time for tea.

So, assuming he's canned after this series, who's going to replace Dhoni as captain then?

They'll be burning effigies on the streets of Delhi tonight!

These stereotypes are in pathetic taste to be honest.

The public won't be too fussed. There will be lots of talk and criticism and analysis but we've just won the world cup which was the most important one for people here.

If not for Misbah's supreme performance in the WC Semi, this would be a depressing year of cricket.

We won the World Cup this year. This is will be one of the most memorable years for Indian cricket in it's history. Yeah, but why give credit to us when you can take it away, eh?

Anyway what should be the team for the third match?

Is Wasim Jaffer an option? Ganguly said that he's the third best opener in India right now and should've been called.

Sorry, just a bit of friendly sledging...:p

Does Test cricket really rank so low in India though?

Why would Dhoni get dropped? He's done far too well to get dropped after one (extremely) poor series.

Edgbaston will suit Bresnan I think and they can hardly ignore his contribution.

They are more likey to bring Tremlett back for the Oval I would guess.

I'm not suggesting dropping Bresnan, I'm talking about Tremlett replacing Trott if his injury is bad enough to keep him out or Morgan who just isn't performing in the test arena.

Why would he get dropped? Because he doesn't deserve to be in the team. You must have better keepers and batsmen in the country than him surely? Or you want to keep him in the 11 just because of his captaincy?

I don't see why we'd play five bowlers. We're taking wickets easily enough with the four. Why disrupt the perfect balance of the team?

No issues :)

I don't think it ranks low at all. One day cricket definitely generates more excitement but given how nuts people are about cricket there's enough buzz for everything. Having said that the World Cup is simply different. It is the pinnacle. It's the biggest stage. It's the most magical.

My take is slightly different. I've always been a purist in that I think Test cricket is the best format but at the same time really rate one day cricket as well. The exception to that is the World Cup. For me it is the ultimate prize in the game and the ultimate event. So, don't get me wrong, this series IS important in my mind. And another year I'd be pretty gutted. But I'd have to damn greedy to be so after something I've always wished for growing up relating to cricket has just happened a couple of months back!

I don't even watch one day cricket to be honest, test cricket is the only thing I enjoy. There's something about the attritional nature of it that doesn't exist in any other team sport.

Well our brilliant board is more interested in the IPL and making money than in Test cricket.

Our board are a greedy bunch of twats.

Firstly, I don't think this country for which the WC was everything got to celebrate it properly. Look at the way other countries celebrate their great sporting moments. We did feck all. Zilch.

But much more importantly, they are like a corporate powerhouse for whom profit is their greatest motive. Yes Indian cricket has seriously risen but it's more inspite of the BCCI than because of them. Why have an IPL right after the WC finished. Our players barely got to enjoy their achievements and they had to suddenly run off for an unimportant competition. No wonder we have so many players injured for this series. And then to make things worse we barely had any practice matches in England because of course there was no time for it.

Poor wicket keeping, poor batting, poor captaincy... what more do you have to do to be dropped?

Do you drop a batsman after one bad innings?

During Dhoni's captaincy we've had the greatest spell in our cricketing history. He's won the T20 World Cup, taken us to no.1 and won the biggest prize in the game playing a match winning innings under pressure scoring the winning runs. He's given every team he's taken over a winning mentality and got them winning things. He even got his T20 team to win back to back IPL's.

Little snippet from Cricinfo...

Actually I'd prefer it if it happened now. India is what matters most and it would be better for us for this constant relentless drivel about his hundredth hundred to finally stop.
