Cricket:India's tour of England 2011

Yeah Sachin is usually number 4 but it's still strange to see Laxman coming in before him. Just not used to it.

Why?

220 is a pretty decent score on this pitch. It's a brilliant pitch for swing bowling.

Because the weather forecast is to get sunnier tomorrow and India's batsman are under less pressure with England scoring low. England have less to play with; one decent innings from either Dravid, Laxman & Tendulkar and India will score 300+.

We have half a side, really. It doesn't reflect very well on England that they're being matched by this side without Zaheer, Sehwag and Gambhir.

Imagine an English side wihtout Anderson, Cook and Trott?

This partnership here is very important because at numbers 5 and 7 we have a pair of walking wickets.

Our best player had to retire due to injury.

Errr that is not the same as missing people due to injuries. zing is right, just yesterday English on here were saying how crap the Indian bowling attack is and all the talk was about being the best in the world.

Er, who?

Anyway, to draw an exact parallel.. can you imagine a side without Cook, Trott and Swann playing away in India against a full strength Indian side(we'll take, say, Ishant out for Tremlett.. so it'd be Zaheer, Sreesanth, Mishra, Harbhajan) and coming away with anything? We'd have run through you before you could say 'flat pitch'.

And I'd have fancied us to beat you at home without Cook, Trott and Anderson and with India having a full strength side.

Nowhere near #1, I think.

We would destroy them in India without Cook and Trott. Anderson wouldn't be that great on Indian pitches either.

yea, in India you'd have to take Swann out of the equation to make it an equal comparison.. doubt Anderson would even start.

why the feck did we turn up with Yuvraj Singh as our back-up batsman? Is that like some "thank you for playing so well in the world cup" quota?

would've loved to have seen Kohli.

Non sense. Point is Flintoff is not part of the current set up and has not been for two years now.

Yeah, so to make it equivalent, take your best player out of the equation. Basic maths.

We're missing our best bowler due to long term injury, you're missing your best bowler due to short term injury. Who's in the worse position? You guys are a joke.

I think Kohli would've been selected had it not been for his poor performances against West Indies. It's clear to see that our Board are a bunch of cnuts though, we've got three injuries and not yet sure whether Viru is gonna play in this series or not, but yet nobody is getting called up from India. It would make sense to call 1-2 players so help them to acclimatize with British conditions.

I'll bet that they'll call someone at the last moment and that person will fail miserably in the test.

England batsmen would have a field day against the Indian bowlers on a flat deck. Seriously folks, your attack is astonishingly poor. By poor I'm talking Bangladesh level.

I won't be talking to you any more in this thread, you have obviously decided to play thick for lolz.

You are losing the series 1-0 and lost the opening match quite comprehensibly unless I am mistaken..

It doesn't speak well about the English batting lineup when your top batsmen were demolished by our bowling lineup without our best bowler.

They've done some things right, though, the selectors.. they gave Dravid a very long rope and it's paying dividends now. I wonder how much Dhoni had to do with that?

They really should call Kohli up with the number of injuries going around.. what happens if a player gets injured during warm up like before the SA test last year? We could have Parthiv Patel playing as a specialist batsman.. might upstage Dhoni though..

Oh great another page turned into pointless India vs England wum attack.

Naive point considering the pitch.

Lets talk about this after the contest is over.

Did you somehow completely not read my post? I am talking about this match.

This match is still well up for grabs. Like I said earlier in the thread, England's strength is their balance. If the top order fail, the tail will help out.

I was merely responding to Spoony's comment though. Not to be taken seriously.

Your hopes rest with Tendulkar, if he's out cheaply this innings you can bet your house you've lost the game.

I certainly wouldn't fancy batting 4th on this track.

A match that isn't even half way through?

What is the point you are trying to make from that?

You would do well not to take anything seriously what's written on this page.

Is it me or are these cricket threads where India are playing, massively entertaining.

So, yea, back to business. How do you guys think it's going to pan out?

Wouldn't be surprised if England nick a lead here. Rubbish batting we've turned up with. We're fecked if they do. Dhoni gifted away too many runs. Could've wrapped the match up at 124/8.

England are nowhere near as reliant on their stars as India. Heck we don't really have that many stars. We have great strenght in depth

The runs are very spread out, yes, but batting replacements are bad. Bopara would be next in line, right? Pretty big step down.

Nope, and it's not as if Tendulkar's got a great fourth innings record either. He's a bit of a bottler. Get Tendulkar out cheaply this innings and win the series.

Yeah, he is a bottler.

He'll go down in cricket history a bit like Andy Cole. Very good player, with an amazing stats record, but not a big match player or one of the true greats.

Yep. Like Cole, Tendulkar has never taken penalties either. Uncanny playing careers.
