Covid Outbreak at Man Utd

Inappropriate joke
Should be Lindelof and Maguire getting the Covid. Finally we get to see Jones Bailly pairing!

I know it’s above my pay grade but it would be a perma ban for such posters if it were upto me.
Fully agree, anti-vaxxers are nothing short of a stain on this world. Awful, misinformed, selfish people. And I’m not talking about the likes of Kimmich who at least provide a reason for not getting it, and who has already shown his regret after getting it. It’s the people who don’t get it while preaching about why they don’t get it, just to be controversial.

As for us, it’s very annoying that this has happened, albeit I wouldn’t be surprised if it has lingered for a week or so considering what happened to Lindelof on Saturday. Sudden shortness of breath is a Covid symptom. Hopefully all the lads with it recover fully and we play against Brighton.

Well that sucks, hopefully any players affected don't end up with long term problems.

Good time to take a break on the back on an undefeated run stretching from Michael Carrick's run to Ralf Rangnick's run. It's a midweek fixture and players are already tired anyway.

The correct decision to cancel by all accounts (and the obvious one based on what's been said)

Hopefully we get some more information from the club in coming days.

Logical decision, and I'd expect Saturdays game will be too. From a sporting situation it should be probably too, we've no idea how many first team players could have it and might be isolating.

I know we all love to watch us play, but some things are simply more important.

Does feel like we're snowballing towards a winter break for most teams, either through in forced decision (unlikely knowing this country) or purely due to the amount of games that end up being postponed.

Really not an ideal situation, both from a health aspect, and also from a fixture aspect.

The postponed fixtures will have to be played at some point, and will probably be shoehorned in between vital cup fixtures later down the line.

Still, as long as everyone at the club remains healthy and fit then the fixture pileup is a small detail.

I think the PL should bring forward the Winter Break and reinstate the strict reopening bubble that was in place last season.

Oh man worried for Saturday, when do we think we will get a decision on Saturday? I’m travelling up Friday morning and doing the stadium tour. I hope they at least tell us before I go.

Would be interesting to know if its our front four and Lindleof. Would make the game against Norwich make sense.

Also - If there are say 3 players and 3 staff positive and everyone else negative then if you isolate those players/staff then are you good to go? Or do you wait 24 hrs test again and see if there are any more cases and then again and again. I wonder how it works.

Also - If they have pulled out of the game then I presume it means that a significant amount of staff has been affected. So what would that mean - 5 first teamers? What do you think it would take to say we are significantly impaired and cant play the game.

Just my wondering....

Think that is why managers are asking for clarification as to how many infections lead to a cancellation. Brighton and Villa both have cases but their games are going ahead it appears. So you presume we have more cases than either of them.

Yeah its odd. I know they dont need to name which players have it but they could at least say for example - 5 players and 3 staff have tested positive. According to Premier League Covid rules/guidelines this has indicated we need to postpone.

It seems its just up to clubs to take action or not.

I actually cant speak to some sections of my family anymore as they are convinced it's the mark of the beast (no joke) and people who follow the science and have the jab are part of the problem

I'm a bit gutted about the game being off but precautions have to be followed. The players' health is more important than my entertainment.

That sucks. Prehaps a winter break is a good idea during this season otherwise IMO I am not for it since the winter period is one of the best parts of the Premier league and it gives a distincitive flavour to english football in general as well the PL. Despite the protests from a dozen foreign managers during the years (Klopp and LVG spring to mind) it's not their society and nobody is forcing them to manage in England. Giving that the next WC in Qatar is set during the winter we just may witness two full seasons without club football during this period. Personally it makes me pretty sad.

That's risky unfortunately as the earliest they will call it off will probably be Friday.

Just glad this is one I'd designated as an up and back the same day job, no hotel etc.
Still will be a hassle if my pal says he doesn't fancy it.

Really annoying, not actually sure what to do now.

Yeah it's a pure lotto of bad timing.
I suppose it depends on how far you're travelling and whether the tour is enough of a thrill if no game. Any hotels etc.

Right now I'm not too worried whether it's on or not. Possibly a slight preference to off to be honest. As long as a refund is gettable and they don't bang it to the midweek straight after!

Yeah staying Friday night to watch game Saturday. I guess even if it’s off the tour would be really cool and catching up with a mate I ain’t see in ages so can go out for dinner or something. No point cancelling it yet I think. Just infuriating this is in doubt.

We all love the festive period, but its going to be so stupid to stick to the ridiculous schedule this year with how things are looking.

Do we have info who exactly from the players is infected? Whoever it is, I hope it goes the easy route and we have them back healthy as soon as possible.

I work as a GP, and our practice don't listen to lateral flows at all. I've reviewed several patients who've had "negative lateral flows" before I visit them on a home visit, and seeing them floridly septic and refer them to hospital for that arrival PCR to return positive. There's a reason why PCRs are better, even if they take longer to show results.

All this "everyones lateral flows were negative before Norwich" - to me it means nothing. Given what has occurred, chances are one of them could have easily been a false negative.

Thanks for the professional input, very interesting. Any thoughts on why we are seeing so many LFT false positives?

I still don't understand how they manage it.

I've been traveling on the train every morning since the summer (back working from home from today) and going into an office full of people. Also shopping etc, and never caught it.

Of course I'm taking every reasonable precaution, and I'm fully vaccinated, but if I can avoid catching COVID whilst being forced to come into contact with all manner of strangers, why can't they avoid it when they really only need to come into contact with their work colleagues?

you don't have kids do you ?

This is an interesting situation, you've got to imagine all clubs are going to suddenly get a bunch of positive tests. Do you postpone all all games for a couple of weeks or is it pointless when the general public are all still mingling.

Vaccines only last for a while. In terms of protection against the virus. On my vague accounts and light reading of official studies, a maximum of 6 months.

They do however protect against hospitalization in a much larger capacity (although not a 100%, vaccinated people still die).

So, by all accounts, if our players were vaccinated around february - may period, it's quite normal they get the virus now.
Most of us, vaccinated or not, will eventually get it - it's very viral and chances that you already had it, without symptoms is quite large.

Hope everyone get's out without any permanent damage.

4 words...Kyle Walker Sex Party.

You’re spot on, obviously about the bit where we cannot play until it is fully safe (I didn’t like what happened to Lindelof on Saturday whatsoever and have an unproven inkling that it might be related to the current issue), but also about the fact that some people think they know more than bona fide doctors and scientists. It’s genuinely strange how these people think.

Absolutely. Bayern had 6 players out due to covid-19 and no matches have been postponed.
Either there are more players infected or the decision is pretty weird.
Also why don't they just tell how many and who got infected like it's done in Germany?

Got to assume Lindelof is one of them considering he went off at Norwich with breathing problems.

My daughter is a midwife and her hospital is full of anti vaccers who are now pity poor me, instead of being sensible and getting the vaccine. This is the biggest strain on the NHS. The govt should either make vaccination mandatory, or make anti vaccers who have to be treated pay for the treatment.

Are you tested as much as they are?

So much this. Antivaxers suddenly realized they have rights not to mention spreading goddamn afwul fake news all around.

Nobody anywhere is being forced to interact with nobody other than work colleagues. That would be a huge ask. Footballers have lives outside football. Families, friends, kids, kids friends etc etc.

They club have just put a statement out about Lindelof

"Victor is currently undergoing a series of precautionary investigations," the club said in a statement. "However, he has recovered well from the episode he experienced in the match against Norwich.

"All indications are that this is not linked to any COVID outbreak within the club."

I agree, between England and Malaysia, where i alternate between living, the amount of anti-vaxxers clogging hospitals up is staggering. Their selfishness has genuinely led to the deaths of millions in a variety of ways.
