Be careful what you wish for.

If we appoint Van Gaal we'll be looking for a new manager 24 months from now IMO.

Any news on who will take temp charge of the remaining games?
2 years is a long time in football, we need somebody to come in now and steady the ship. Once we are used to being without Fergie it wont be so bad.

I now feel a bit sorry for him. I already stated yesterday that so far I thought he was extremely smug/arrogant, but now I actually believe he is just a bit stupid and a very slow learner. I wish him luck and hope he is back in business soon, but in the end I only care about United in that regard and it was time to rectify our own mistake from 10 months ago.

The inevitable has happened. Sad it didn't work out for him. That Everton performance was the last straw for me. Lets see what happens now.

Good news but sad that we were ever in this situation. Let's start to rebuild and get back where we belong.

Sad for the man even though I dislike him as a person, I can't imagine how disappointed he has to be right now. Wish him well for the future.

I hope we don't spiral out of control now.

Whomever we decide to appoint now, it has to be the right choice. No more f***ing around.

Don't get me wrong, I am happy he is being sacked. It's the right thing to do. Feeling sorry for him would never be enough to keep him in the job.

But, I can approve his sacking yet feel sorry for what he has been through. Week in week out he goes in front of the media. He reads articles about what he has done to a giant club. He looks at the players he has contributed to being crap. He looks at the table and sees history written. It's not unfair, that's part of top level management. But separate that from being a human, just imagine how painful that must be. I don't think money can fix that feeling. The feeling you've made millions of people around the world angry/upset. That you've let them down. The club down.

It's bad feeling, I agree

But he's not the first and won't be the last. Can you imagine how Kennedy felt when his "OK" means millions of people losing their lives? Leaders (and yes, Moyes is our leader for the past 11 months) make decisions and judged by it.

With Giggs in charge, I'm very intrigued as to how we will play this saturday. Probably quite swashbuckling as of old....with the risk we might lose...but attack like mad. Also I'm really looking forward to Giggs first team-sheet...will say a lot I reckon...

Ultimately the right decision for all involved. I wanted Moyes to prove me wrong, and prove he was the right man for Man Utd, but I didn't every have the belief he would. I was dreading next season. This decision at least gives me hope for the future.

I wish him the best. He is a good manager but Man Utd are a great club and need a great manager. Sadly Moyes isn't that, at least not yet.

 So all's well now then. MU become just like every other club as they go down the road of sacking managers when things get tough. God help the next guy.

That's bollox really Marching. It's only because we had 2 managers, the likes of which practically no other team bar Liverpool has ever had, that there is this belief we were not "like every other club" in that respect. When Ferguson came in United were and had been shite for years. Sacking him early doors would have made no difference then and the "gamble" to keep him on worth taking.

Of course, that he did so well makes the decision one of the best ever. Don't forget though that before he came, in my lifetime at least, all of Docherty, Sexton and Atkinson were sacked. Since Ferguson's time, football has changed dramatically and it's (unfortunately) more about success and finances than ever. Results matter and you can't get results if you don't have the team behind you. He had to go.

Why the hell is Sky saying the he "leaves" UNited? He got sacked.

I can understand the club using that term , but not the press.

The players will give double their effort, they have much to prove that it wasn't them

Van Gaal isn't exactly known for his ship steadying ability.

Agree. It's part of top level management and top level jobs. You are paid to make decisions.

But, strip it all back and they are humans as much of us. Emotions, a heart, a brain all the same. I'm solely talking about the human element. It must be extremely painful what he has been through. He should have expected it when he took the job but doesn't mean I don't feel for him. It's tough.

who's this bellend on SSN?

sounding scouse as f**k with his class and dignity shite.

he's gone, pal; rejoice.

One Jurgen Klopp pls :)

I think Moyes knew what was happening before this got leaked/fed to the press. The paperwork might not have been signed off by the solicitors, but I'm pretty sure he'll have known and if his contract did have a "CL qualification" objective he's known that the decision was on the cards. The staff he hired may not yet have spoken to the club, but I doubt they're surprised either.

That said, the appropriateness of leaking the information is questionable. The affected staff should have had the chance to show up quietly to Carrington or OT, without TV reporters stood outside.

I'm not sad to see him go. He was a high risk choice. He chose to add to those risks by placing his own men in key positions. The gamble didn't come off. More significantly, as time went on he looked less like someone rising to the challenge and excited by the opportunity, than someone trying to pass the blame.

I'm glad he's gone. I wish we'd announced it at a 11am press conference or whatever, with the affected staff told (and probably safely at home) rather than on twitter on a Bank Holiday.

lol at UNited supporters' trust attacking the Glazers for being classless. Do they ever shut up about the Glazers?

It didn't work out so we both move on, hope he gets a job more suited to his talents. It was always going to be an incredibly difficult job replacing Sir Alex and he was found wanting unfortunately. Some of the players need to take a good look at themselves this morning as well and hopefully the new boss will kick a few arses Fergie style when he gets here.
