Confirmed: Moyes sacked.

Oh where to start? UWS, Telegraph and a lot of sources ran with the 'Moyes to be sacked' story. Presumably having been briefed by the club. Then, no announcement from the club was forthcoming, then it was assumed due to the NYSE trading and any news having to wait after 4 PM EST. Another thought is United leaked the story hoping to pressurize Moyes to sell. There are a lot of sub stories like Danny Welbeck fake tweet which caused Moyes to resign, speculation on Van Gaal and Klopp, Bielsa to Marseille and Black extending contract with his current club. We still don't have a last word yet, but Talksport and BBC contacted United and they responded with the standard 'Moyes is still manager, won't comment on the long term as they are speculation'.

Apparently staff have been told there will be some news tomorrow, nobody knows what news. It could be the tea lady's retirement.

didn't know the staff bit... must be major, as him staying wouldn't be news.
Ive read all 50 feckin pages and you have done it in 5 lines ,you forgot about john the wizard from oxford ha!

Obviously, It's Blanc and not Black, but I got most of the other stuff right, except the Wizard phone caller.

Ogden on Talksport said that the story regarding Welbeck wanting to leave and the dire performance against Everton sealed Moyes's fate. He said that the board was worried that potential transfer targets would not come to United if Moyes had a reputation of being unpleasant to play for. And that the Everton performance showed that Moyes had lost the team.

So the future of the club is in Ed Woodward's hands? Gestalpen und vientrienen ich unten heppenvolf, as they say in the Klopp conservatory.

He might well, but it must grate that every summer you have to basically stand by while the Bayern Munich manager takes a look around your house like a baliff.
That's why I didn't totally rule him out coming here, but I believe having just signed a new contract, it'll be 2015 at the earliest.

Think about how much Gary Neville looks up to and respects Ferguson. I wouldn't be surprised if it's just a case of "Ferguson says he's the right man so he's the right man" for him.

He was either extremely naive or didn't want to stir waters. Now, I believe Gary to be very intelligent and articulate so it wasn't the former. With such strong ties to the club he wanted to show support when really he should be more Roy Keane like...not to indulge in a controversial soundbite but admit that Moyes was never in keeping with the Utd playing ethos

Wouldn't worry, apparently we can't even announce something till after the NY stock exchange closes, for reasons I have no idea of. You don't get that many journos certain of something at once without there being substance.
It's so that insiders can't profit from buying/selling shares as appropriate before the news is released to the general public. If the market is closed everyone has an equal opportunity to buy/sell when it next opens.

Doesn't make sense to. In fact it'd be stupid. We need to make use of this summer with someone who we have belief in, and more importantly, the players have belief in. The next season is still going to be a settling in period, for players and manager. There's no point prolonging that. We also don't want Moyes to have that money to spend.

I don't feel sorry for him. He knew the job he was taking on. He probably knew he wasn't up to it, but took a punt anyway. Personally for him, fair enough for that, but for the club, he shouldn't have taken the job.

I understand that, personally I think replacing him will be the right choice for the club going forward, I just thought that the board would back him. I'm surprised we just didn't replace him sooner if there was a possibility to sack him this season. I guess they just wanted to see how he fared in the Champions League.

I wouldn't hold it against him for taking the job. A manager like Moyes obviously believes in his own ability and I'm sure he thought he could be successful here. It just didn't work out for him, many reasons why that didn't happen, but I wouldn't hold a grudge for him taking the job.

Uhm...

Seriously... ?

Gouging an opposing coaches eye out might be where I start...

Or how about denying your own player medical attention and then lying about the situation...

We could go on.

Point is I am very happy if Moyes is gone, but some perspective might help.

His point about Cech injury was valid and it led to League looking at the safety procedures with an ambulance at the ready immediately.

I think our Danny is getting the ball rolling with a him or me style ultimatum.

When important first team player's start looking to move elsewhere the board will have to start looking at the manager.

The fact it is a bank holiday is irrelevant. board meetings like this will be handled via conference call. In fairness if you look at the board the majority are there because of the Glazers so if the Glazers say he's gone then he;s gone.

There are procedures in company law for board meetings to take place, normally a notice period must be given for extra ordinary meetings. Also people are busy, so even getting people together for a conference call is not easy.

I hope this is getting lost in translation? There is simply no chance that Moyes has ever behaved worse than Maureen.

They have both been embarrassing to their clubs, but in different ways. Moyes because he has come across as a soft, hopeless, rank average fool and Mourinho because he has shown himself to be the nutter that he is.

Started a new season in Fifa, named the manager Jurgen Klopp. Read into that what you will.

impossible. For the last one and a half hours, Moyes has been on the phone to my best friend from a 1996 summer job in a soap factory
Thats a lie and you know it! ... For one you dont have or have had any friends :)

Would be the obvious choice for the remaining games. Just don't make him the permanent one.

Agree. He can't do worse over the 4 games and the players would feel a massive sense of relief and slowly get their belief back. He's maybe the best choice purely because he could really harbor no realistic expectations of getting the job full time, whereas anyone else coming in would be alien to the squad and expect to stay longer than a month.
