What is this referring to if I may ask as the ignorant fella I am about this?

I'd imagine the Fergie retirement thread had a similar or even faster rate.

I just checked and it seems not. You can't see the time of posts, but the thread started on 7th May, presumably quite late, and by the end of 8th May it had 36 pages.

This thread has passed that in three hours!

Amazing that we can't sack our manager when we want to because of the New fecking York Stock Exchange.

I imagine this will be announced on friday then.
I'd be very surprised. The speculation is too intense, rumours are popping up everywhere; Diego Simeone has already been asked about the United job. No way can United keep it bottled up until Friday.

If he does end up leaving, where do you think he will end up? Do you think he will stay in England or do what steve mcclaren did and go abroad? Personally I think he should go abroad as the spotlight will be on him less and I don't think he has much to gain in England as no club in the cl or challenging for the cl will want him. He can further his management skills abroad imo, so for me it would be the best option. Although you have to take into account his family also. I think it is likely he will stay in England, but I think it would be better to go abroad. He would have more to gain imo. There is not much left for him in England I feel

How long until the stock exchange closes for the day then?

Pointless as well, we've got a match to prepare for and sacking the current boss a day before it isn't ideal preparation. Needs to happen quick, like now!

"We're Manchester United, we do what we want!"*

*As long as it complies with the rules of the New York Stock Exchange.

It was the sudden nature of all the articles across numerous media organisations/papers. Not a slow burn thing like in previous weeks. It's front site news on a lot of websites as well.

Purple Wedding in Game of Thrones. Anything else would be a massive spoiler so it was mostly for people who watched the last last episode ;)

The stock exchange closes on friday.

The Rooney deal for instance was also announced on a friday.

This feeling when we sack a shit manager is almost as good as the one when we used to win things.

If he's got an offer from abroad, he should take it. Might be unlikely though. Leverkusen still haven't appointed someone full time though have they? He actually did well against them!

Hmm, interesting. I didn't have any internet access around that time so I couldn't participate in the big "oh my god will Fergie really retire?!" panic. But it's a million times better, it's an actual happy occasion.

Can someone tell me why we have to wait for the NYSE to close before we can make an announcement?

Isn't Diego Simeone the dude that Beckham tripped up in 1998?
That's the one. He's also the guy on the brink of winning La Liga with Atletico Madrid and in the semi finals of the champions league.

Giggs with G.Nev as his assitant, P.Nev as his assistant, Nicky Butt as his assistant with Steve Round as transfer bunker and iPad specialist?

I think he'll be made for the kind of situation Pulis took over at Palace. At the end of last season, Pulis was considered an undesirable, dour choice to most clubs, including his own Stoke fans. His turning around of Palace has suddenly given him this revitalized reputation and his stock has probably risen.
