I agree on the relief but come on, surely you've had some moments of inspiration and hope this season? Match 1 @ Swansea? Januzaj @ sunderland? Turning over the Olympiakos tie @ OT? The 60 seconds after Evra scored in Munich?

And...wow, I can't really think of too many more.

I have said that 1000 times - we werent that good in the opening game vs Swansea. We just efficient.

There were glimpses of hope this year. The opening game was good. West Ham away was too. But annoyingly after that last game he switched back to what had failed us before. There was no hope for the man if not only was he unsure of what he was doing wrong but also clueless as to when he was doing something right.

I said the same here. Good result but not a good performance. Swansea completely dominated the posession and they had some chances. We were ruthless though.

I knew Moyes was going to fail before the season began. So while some of those moments were exciting, they were followed by the realization that there would be no light at the end of the tunnel(unless he was sacked).

Just read Roy Keane's comments. Yet another defending Moyes. Keane is delusional or just being his usual controversial self.

I'm bored of this "should have been given time" crap ex-pros come out with. He would have been given time if he didn't fail horribly at everything asked of him. Were we supposed to be locked out of the top tier of European football, bereft of sponsorship deals and revenue before, 6 years later, we finally conclude it probably hadn't worked?

Agree with the performance but this was also coming on the heels of a fairly abysmal pre-season so it looked, for me, like Moyes would at least get results while he figured out the system he wanted to play.

It's so annoying seeing everyone agrees he needed time. Thank god we sacked him so this nightmare is over. They are so wrong about this time nonsense, we could have given Moyes 10 years and he would still have us 7th.

Manager sticking up for one of his own shocker. Keane also said that SAF wasn't to blame, which was a little unexpected.

Really this "we'll give the manager time no matter what" thing was a load of bollocks from the get go. Obviously you don't give the manager time unconditionally, there's always going to be a possible set of circumstances where it would be bloody stupid not to sack him.

Lets not do that again. From now on give the manager the amount of time common sense dictates he deserves. No more, no less.

"After a disappointing season in which the club's basic targets were not met we felt David's job had become untenable and it would be in both parties interest to end the association and explore other options. As arguably the biggest club in the world, we believe it important to be competing in the Premier League and Europe and we now look towards bringing in a manager who matches our ambitions. In the mean time we hand the reins over to the trusted hands of Ryan Giggs who has full support of the squad and club officials. We plan to have a more permanent arrangement in place before the summer transfer window opens in order to start plans to get the club back to a position more befitting of Manchester United. The club thanks all the fans, especially Redcafe for their support during this difficult time and apologise once again for making you put up with Gollum for so long, he really was a miserable cnut to have around the place and we hope he never darkens our doorways again. Safe. Peace Out.

Sir Bob."

Well it's well written (except that I would be more vague in promising permanent replacement etc so as not to be too committal :).

So if this written statement makes you happy, all that counts. You already know what needs to be said. So well done you!

What's the big difference though between the short statement they post thanking Moyes etc and this long statement? I can settle for the short version as a devoted fan but it's just me of course :)

it's just a way for these ex pro's to tow the party line and save their own kind and skin when they end up in Management and expect the same kind of backing when things arnt going terribly well, how much time do you give to someone before they inevitable hide under a rock because they cant admit to themselves they have no frigging idea?

That was just me doing a vague PR thing like you asked. I'd rather know what the club's ambitions are going forward. I'd like to see them talk about club philosophy of winning with attacking play and character too but I guess it'll never happen.

Also, you're a patronising twat and can feck off.

Thats a bit rude!!! No need to resort to that.

No way the club will promise the fans what their ambition is, after a disastrous season like this! They can't please everyone because if they say aiming for top 4 and win some cup trophies etc, some fans will be angry it is not ambitious enough. And saying we are aiming at challenging the title, what will you as fans be interpreting it?

Sometimes you as fans need to think about how the club is feeling right now. They surely want SAF to go on forever, or a permanent manager who can do half of what SAF did. We all know spending big does not guarantee trophies. And you already know they are prepared to break the bank to spend something like £200M. What more do you want to know? Anyway don't answer that. I was just arguing for the sake of arguing.

It is such a happy day today I don't want to ruin it. It's been a while since I am so looking forward to the next game and I am happy for the players and the fans alike. under Moyes, I have been always feeling dreaded.

They even have a programme on Sky Sport 1/ News at 10.00 p.m. to discuss the sacking. Why don't they just keep their noses out.

We are the biggest club this country has.... Why wouldn't they?? Just enjoy the fact that we are big business.

Agreed and agreed! Sadly, there is only one Fergie. One day if he's walking out on the pitch at OT again, I would have tears in my eyes. In fact, when I am typing this, I already have a tear in my eye. I hope he will forever be connected with United. Long live Fergie.
Even now I dream of Sir Alex coming back for 2-3 seasons to knock the Scousers off their perch again.

He won't ever finish it. 'I am trying to finish the book, I think that I am doing fantastic, the publisher is excellent'.

"I look at Spot the Dog and think that's the sort of level I aspire to get to"

 at you thinking you're more of a fan when you see Chelsea and Liverpool winning the league as the same thing, as long as it's not United.

I'll throw this one open to the floor, how many of you would want us to beat Chelsea on the final day of the season in a scenario where that would give Liverpool the title and not improve our standing in the league?

Oh responding to my smiley with your smiley, but no addressing the reason all this started, I wonder why? Oh that's right, because you got slated for it once already.

Your fantasy scenarios are that, fantasy. This all seems to have started because you have been wanting United to lose this season.

I was delighted Everton tanked us

Delighted we lost to Everton?

So the fantasy scenarios are one thing but you've been watching United wanting them to lose this season and you think you are more of a fan? You would sooner Everton get Europa than United. We have a big squad and european football would help us with that, but you would sooner United finish as low as possible and get tanked by everybody and anybody. This is not fantasy but reality.

The Glazers have made clear the importance of europa and the income from it but you don't want us having the extra money. You would rather Everton have that money.

I wonder who Alex Ferguson would consider the real fan here. The fact you've been supporting the opposition to win this season and not just win but win big when it's had no bearing on Liverpool, I think Alex Ferguson would be disgusted by your behaviour :nono:

I guess we'll see, if Van Gaal is top four at christmas im happy to admit he's a decent improvement on moyes
The guy who built the structure for 10 years of Barcelona dominance, the same guy who built the foundations today's Bayern side sit upon. A decent improvement on Moyes is an insult to his quality. The only problems you get with Van Gaal is that he's fecking nuts and not normal nuts Dutch nuts.
I quite like the idea of him coming but he scares me.

Lads, SSN are doing a show on him just now. Just a heads up.

Even now I dream of Sir Alex coming back for 2-3 seasons to knock the Scousers off their perch again.
And you know what? Its of course doable and I am sure he can achieve that. Would be so so sweet... but then it would be unfair to our retired legend. :(

When people say that they need a manager to deal with the player power what do they mean by it? Because Moyes tried to give shit back e.g the Welbeck fine and it was probably the final straw.

Yeah but would anyone find Moyes intimidating or does he command respect like some of the others? Hell no. Might sound bad to say it like this, but some people are just born with certain attributes that makes them more right for certain jobs. Moyes just doesn't have it in him as a character, doesn't have the charisma, or the certain attitude that commands respect from his players. He just comes across as a bland and boring guy.

They've just finished talking about it on Newnight!!!!!! You would there might be something in the world that's more newsworthy

So if the rumours are true; the club waited until it was mathematically impossible to qualify for European football next season before sacking Moyes. This apparently is down to a clause in Moyes's contract which stated if didn't get us in Europe he was only entitled to a 1 year pay-off instead of 6 years.

Question is, if there was no such clause, how long do you think the club would have given him?

I think Olympiakos away sealed it for him to be honest.
