Confirmed: Moyes sacked.

Oh FFS he has been coaching for a wee while now. You do understand the difference between the manager and coaches

2 years coaching experience of the reserve team is more than zero experience and you do know the difference between being manager and being one of the coaching staff running training drills dont you?.

jesus h christ....

First of all calm down. Were discussing amongst fellow fans. Secondly i repeat what experience did butt or phil in coaching prior becoming manchester united coaches. The answer is nil.

Coaching is less demanding then management but great coaches had an important role in players careers. Ppl like rene, harrison and guardiola (as coaches/youth managers) had a big say in producing some fantastic talent. The decline of world class youth talent after harrisons retirement speak volumes of how good coaches are needed at ot.

I dont mind having 1-2 former players becoming coaches as long as it is done in a protected environment, with well estabilished youth coaches monitoring them and with a bunch of players who had already shown that they have great talent. However we dont have that at ot. The club is in a middle of a big transition, the youth academy has seen much better times and the last thing we need is nepotism to take over quality

Disagree.

We're a few players short but not to the point where it requires a massive rebuild as some are suggesting. It needs tweaks, it's always needed tweaks. Let's erase what Dave has done because he was clearly not up to the task. The point is that our squad under a capable manager won the league with ease. We've already added Mata and Fellaini with Januzaj coming through. We need to tweak the squad, add perhaps 2 CM's, a LB and a winger. That's it.

Last thing we need right now is tearing up half the squad ffs.

4 new players. All presumably first XI material. That's a "tweak"?!

I think is easier to create the infastructure which will get the job done than finding a new Sir Alex, Drummer. I don't think that SIr Alex and Sir Matt are the norm, we were really lucky to find such great managers, twice. I doubt that it will happen, but even if it does, it will be because the manager is doing a great job and want to stay, not because we simply hire a manager who was a lot on a job regardless how good/bad is him.

I agree with you on both accounts but the question is now whether or not the Glazers have the competency to set us up in this manner.

There is a lot of evidence to suggest that they have just been downright blessed with SAF. They haven't had to make many footballing decisions and have thus far shown an ability to excel at flogging the club on the back of SAF success. What exactly have they done in footballing terms to suggest that they have the knowledge to take the club forward ?

People keep saying that they only listened to SAF, well what experience have any of them in football to make their own recommendations? Its not unusual in football, but when you have non footballing people making football decisions it doesn't always work out well.

What they have to do now is pick the most experienced and available coach for the first team. But what is equally important is that they get things properly organised in the backround. They could do worse then send some sort of scouts (of sorts) to Barca, Bayern and Dortmund to see how these clubs are run. It is unclear now exactly what their plan is for the club and while DM apparent failure on the park was clear for everyone to see, its what was expected of him behind the scenes that I would like to understand . .

It just had to happen after this

My only concern with Moyes now is that he knows all our transfer targets.

I guess the new manager will probably has his own list.

  • They still could release the name of who will be the permanent manager during our last game at Old Trafford. If van Gaal they could let him come down and give the fans a speech.
  • Announce Ryan Giggs' retirement (unless he plans on continuing).
  • Give a special tribute to Vidic.
  • Announce a record breaking sponsorship deal.
  • Announce their plans for lucrative friendlies to combat lack of earnings from champions league football.
  • Announce how much the war chest is going to be worth.
  • And if van Gaal does give his speech, he could tell Liverpool that he is coming for them. They can enjoy the day but tomorrow they should wake up nervous.
Long story short, should they wish, they could share news time with Liverpool. I doubt they will though, sadly.

This would be so f*cking good. All of it, but this especially.

Again I'm sorry but I don't get all this stuff about him being treated disgracefully. If (as appears likely due to the timing) he had a clause in his contract about European football, then he should have known the writing was on the wall. If he didn't realise that then it's astounding. If he knew this was a requirement he must have been expecting his sacking - after all it was laid out in his contract. The reality is that if you manage a Premier League club then you accept the boquets when things go right and the brickbats when they go wrong. It's part of the job. As others have said, many managers have been sacked this season, and they have all been dispensed with in the full glow of the media.

I have to admit I had doubts about Moyes very quickly, like in Pre-Season. I know you shouldn't read anything into friendlies but even the results in those games and our performances were pretty dissapointing, and the summer transfer window debacle made it worse.

Its obviously true. It wasn't the poor results, the loss of the dressing room, the terrible football or the club's league position which forced their hand. It was Danny Welbeck.
That guy

If only we could sack Paddy Power...

Not being from England I have never been exposed to much of Paddy Power ads other than this season.. They seem to utterly classless.. As far as Welbeck going into board of directors and claiming either him or Moyes seems to be ridiculous..

I notice some people here are upset about how Moyes was treated in the sacking. Moyes being sad and angry at the way he was treated. People saying it is not the United way.

The Guardian

Just because they done it before doesn't make it okay to do it again.

You should know better. Like their plane banner and grim reaper stunts, it's just said for retweets/publicity. Nothing in it.
I should have placed a smiley instead, now I look like a prat.

Just woke up.
Delighted :) It was a long time coming, only one way it would have turned out. Champions league was the minimum requirement and moyes didn't even get close to that, you can't just throw away our season and I'm glad the board have proven they aren't complete idiots and there is a limit.

Pure fantasy & wishful thinking, unfortunately. Interesting he's only on a 3 year deal though.

He might be able to get Messi from Barca though?

He said last week that he'd leave Bayern if they weren't happy with him after Beckenbauer complained about his football.

Sky are sycophantic in their support of Moyes. The coverage is making out as if the club is actually in the wrong.

This is the most deserving sacking I've seen in a very long time.

They just showed one of Moyes' first press conferences (I think it was actually the first?) briefly on Sky Sports News.

"I'm driven to try and succeed here".

How didn't we see this coming from that moment? He walked into the hardest job in football with the mentality that he was going to 'try his best'. It was honestly the last thing we need to follow SAF.

Anyway, thank God the nightmare is over and all the best to David Moyes. Lets hope he bounces back and gets to try elsewhere soon (and I genuinely mean that, despite the little dig).

What is this Welbeck story? Can't see tweets on this laptop - someone please let me know what it says!

paddypower

Apparently Danny Welbeck went into the boardroom and said, ‘It’s either me or the boss.’ Decision made then.

Bloody hell  I'm amazed you didn't over-analyse "here" to mean press conferences rather than football.

Tell me Sky can't get this low! Has the ABU mindset gone over their heads? I wonder how they would react if Wenger was sacked tomorrow morning for example.:wenger:

Moyes was 1,000 times more deserving of a sacking than everything AVB got in his face.

A lot did mate but Fergie's farewell plea to the fans overrode any misgivings and understandably so. Those who did voice concerns were ignored. You can see how opinion was divided on here from the start and has remained so right up to the moment he was given the boot.
