50 does it too, so does Eminem
Have to disagree, you say you don't listen to him?

All his albums post Eminem show have been about his drug and depression issues. He does throw in the odd diss track here and there but it's not the only thing he raps about.

I haven’t heard the Eminem album, and I don’t plan to since I’m not a fan. So I’ll leave it up to the fans to say if it’s good or not.

But, can the man release anything without the predictable “feck this guy, that guy, all these guys are whack” diss tracks?
It’s been boring for about 15 years now.

The last however long, his albums have consisted of drugs and relationship stuff. The latter of which I found extremely boring. Going at wack rappers hasn’t been his thing for some time.

In regards to the album, it’s his best one since the Eminem Show for me.

I didn’t say that’s all he raps about, I said that I can’t remember the last thing he released without dissing someone as part of the marketing for the album.
Like you said, 50 does the exact same thing, but Eminem doesn’t get called out on it because he’s Eminem and seemingly above most criticism.
The fact that I don’t listen to him, but I’m only aware of his releases is only because he uses the same strategy each time.
He even dissed himself on ‘not afraid’ As part of his sober awareness marketing.

He’s gone at plenty of people in recent history, Iggy, Trump, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, all the Lil’s.

It absolutely has been part of his strategy to get people talking about his albums, but I didn’t say that’s all his albums consist of, especially since I don’t listen to them.

Joyner Lucas has so much potential. I hope his next album is more polished than his debut.

Listened to Saba and Buddy, both albums absolutely fantastic and definitely part of the best of the year.

Also where is Jeremih and Ty$??

Ah fair enough.

Tbh i don't think he does it for the marketing, he's one of the few rap artists who will sell his records just because of his name. He raps about different topics, but everyone sees things differently, e.g. i find Drake extremely boring too.

Not aware he dissed Wayne and Snoop, always seemed to have a good relationship with them.

And Eminem is definitely not beyond criticism, his last album got really really bad reviews (and rightly so). It's partly why i think he released this latest one so quickly after it to prove a point against his critics.

Speaking of 50 Cent. The video for ‘Get the strap’ with 6ix9ine, Casanova and Uncle Murda is great.

Just listened to The Ringer.

I think it might be kinda good, I'm not sure what to do.

Don't forget his abysmal beat selection.

When?

Anyone else enjoying Bas’ new album? Some great songs on there. Front Desk, Tribe, Boca Raton and Fragrance are my faves.

And then someone who never listens to Eminem comes and quote those sites.

I haven't heard of the sites that guy is talking about. But early on in his career both of them did exchange speculative bars, fuelled even more by their lack of willingness to work together. When one of your biggest assets is dissing people any line that can be linked to someone else is going to be analysed to such an extent because people are expecting you to diss someone at any time.
Same way if you're an easy target then you'll always be a running joke, and lines will be loosely interpreted to be about you even if that wasn't then intention.

Most disses in hip hop never turn into a back and forth, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

just a single only.. Ty even deleted the MihTy 8/24 tweet. bastards...

glad you liked the Buddy album though, Hey Up There is probably top 5 songs of the year for me.

So it's not happening? :(

I absolutely love it, I love those low-key albums with low expectations that pack a punch. Especially since the heavy hitters really disappointed this year.

If they exist can you please quote the lines from the songs that do say that? If its true as they say then Eminem would have had a beef woth someone bigger than Ja Rule, dissing pop stars and presidents doesn't count in this argument btw, it's an opinion being voiced, and those songs are mostly radio hits, not something Eminem talk about in as many songs as you think.

You've made the point I was making. He uses radio hits to do a lot of his dissing because it's an easy way to market any album/single as part of its release.
Regardless of whether it's an opinion, dissing Trump, Mariah, Iggy, Britney etc is going to get people talking about it.
He's been doing the same thing for well over a decade, and its predictable yet he barely gets called out on it. It's not surprising to me that The Ringer was one of the first tracks of the album, Nicki Minaj did the exact same thing. I'm sure the rest of the album is full of good lyrics and good songs for the fans though.

He doesn't have to explicitly mention Snoop's name, speculative disses are still considered disses and are part of the competitive nature of hip hop. Especially when you're someone like Eminem who is known to throw jabs, regardless of the target.
You see it all the time, see Big Sean vs Kendrick, it's a very tenuous link but any line that either of them says is over interpreted and analysed to mean something it probably doesn't.

@villain I get what you are saying, I'm asking where's that subliminal diss you are talking about? If anything only times Eminem dissed rappers before his lateat album was after they came after him, ie Benzino, Ja Rule, Insane Clown Pose, Royce Da 5'9 and Canibus, And how is something being interpreted wrongly be considered a diss too?

Beef is part of the rap culture as well, it's something that used to push artists to be better than the competitors, he is right about the mumble rap becoming a tiering trend too.

I understand your point completely but you said things not based on any facts just mere speculation, I have no problem with anything you said just that he dissed Snoop and Wayne.

Anyone else excited for Lupe's upcoming album titled Wave? I know Drogas Light was shite, Lupe said that himself, but the one before Drogas Light, Tetsuo & Youth, is probably one of my favourite Lupe albums, I think it might be his second best after Food & Liquor even topping The Cool.

Is he still making music? The last I heard he was touring Asia playing street fighter tournaments.

Yeah he came out of retirement yet again, he still make great music, Mural is one of the best rap songs ever and that was on Tetsuo & Youth, Lyrically he is just on a different level to his generation of rappers imo.

Yeah T&Y was more of a throwback Lupe album, less preachy, more flamboyant sound.

Yeah, then came Drogas Light, his worst album ever, but he said he released it so he can finally get out of his agreement with atlanta forever and now he is focused again, he has been hyping the album up quite a bit, I also like the image he is creating with the title, Waves, as in the African people who refused slavery and jumped off the ships that were taking them became Waves (his explanation on twitter).

Look forward to it, him, Kanye & Cudi was my niche of hip-hop before Kendrick came along. I felt him and Cudi could have been a lot more prolific as they have such a unique style.

I feel that boom-bap in coming back - albeit in an updated, modernized version.

The 'Trap beat' sound is now at complete ubiquity and it has no edge, though it still has it's merits and will surely be remembered fondly as a proper 'scene' and sound of it's time.

Records like the Kanye / Cudi 'Kids See Ghosts' album, 'Ye', the new DOOM vs Muggs record (which I think will go into 'instant cult classic' territory) and even mainstream singles like 'Chun Li', just sound more weighty as beats, and at their structure are more traditional Hip-Hop and have more bars and flow and they just sound more relevant now.

I think we're gonna see some really, really good Hip Hop records in the next few years.

Got interested in Joyner Lucas after the Eminem album.
The little ive heard is really good.

Same. The remixes he's done are brilliant.

The Mask Off remix in particular is unbelievable. His take on Panda, Look Alive and Gucci Gang are all worth a listen as well. So talented, can't believe I'd not heard of him before now. He's 30 as well apparently.

I’m just gonna say it....

I love it

Video reminds me of early busta rhymes, ludacris, ODB, Redman etc.

Lil Pump was alright, but Kanye reminds me of his late registration/graduation phase where he incorporates a lot of his personality into his music and videos. And that’s the Kanye I love.

You have to be able to have fun with hip hop.

Looks like he’s in a better mental state too, which is pleasing to see
