The feck? Is Drake some kind of a benchmark for a great artist now? Hold my beer while I crumble inside.

Unreal I can't understand how people can listen to it unless they just accept it as pure pop

Been listening to EARTHGANG for the first time. Enjoying their flow and a lot of their songs. Artificial is great.

Also been listening to J.I.D and clearly very talented but sounds a bit like a Kendrick-lite which is a bit off-putting.

Earthgang are great, their music videos are amazing too.
J cole is building himself a very good roster of rappers I enjoy listening to more than I enjoy listening to j cole.

I'm guessing that most of the major releases for the year are out now.. and i'm bored.

What's everyone's top 5/10 albums for the year so far? Top 5/10 tracks?
Worst albums of the year? Same for tracks.

Has this been one of the most disappointing years in hip-hop in recent history?

Any albums you liked when it was released, but now you barely listen to?

I was at a car festival last weekend and the main camp site had a ridiculous amount of kids doing the "Kiki do you love me" dance, with mum's singing all the words along with their toddlers.

Pop star.

He didn't make the dance though, how is that his fault

Taboo, Vacation in Hell, Daytona, Astroworld and Care for me, karma 2

He made the godawful 'song'.

Kids & mums liking it isn't really his fault though.
He made plenty of songs which he rapped all over, on his album which that same demographic don't know or care about.

Kids and mum's like it because it's pop music.

There's nothing inherently wrong with that, but it is what it is.

Taboo was great.
Haven't heard Vacation in Hell
Daytona got boring
Astroworld is pretty average
Haven't heard Care For Me or Karma 2 - I like looking at Dave East, but I don't really care for his music

Jay Rock's album is one of the underrated ones of the year so far, for me.

Indeed, almost every rap single is pop music - it is what it is.

I did find a lot I was looking forward to let me down. Was really disappointed with Ye.

Best Albums:

1. Astroworld - Really enjoying it.
2. Care for Me - Saba is great. Superb album.
3. Kids See Ghosts - Apart from Pusha which I thought was ok, the only good one of the Kanye 7 track albums.
4. Vacation In Hell - A bit long but once I properly went back to it I thought it was pretty good. Some great tracks on there.
5. Beerbongs - Probably popular to hate Post on here but I liked it.

Best Songs:

1. 1999 WILDFIRE - Brockhampton
2. BUSY/SIRENS - Saba
3. New Freezer - Rich The Kid (How was that still 2018)
4. HOUSTONFORNICATION - Travis Scott
5. SICKO MODE - Travis Scott

Worst Albums:

1. KOD - Been waiting for him to bring out another Forest Hills but his last two albums have been so forgettable.
2. Ye - It's not crap but I don't find myself wanting to go back to it.
3/4/5. The rest of Kanye's stuff. Maybe TESTING as I couldn't get into it.

Also I don't agree about the releases being over. There's still some great artists with material on the way. Anderson Paak should have Oxnard Ventura out soon, Thug is dropping today, Bas has a new album coming, Schoolboy Q, Isaiah Rashad, Chance, etc...

As an aside I'm looking forward to this trend of everything being in capital letters ending.

This is a great list, second person to recommend Vacation In Hell & Care for Me too - i'll add it to my list.

This is a controversial opinion but I think J Cole has peaked, and he's not going to better Forest Hills Drive. (I said this at the time too, maybe not on here though)
I can commend him for not wanting features, but he needs someone else to at least produce his tracks, just to diversify the sound a bit more, I'm not sure what he's trying to achieve by doing it all on his own.

Kanye definitely cared about KSG more than any other of the releases, in fact after it was released it appeared as though he stopped caring. Nas & Teyana were ripped off particularly. But KSG is a pretty decent album.

I wouldn't say those rappers you listed are 'major' releases with the exception of Chance & Thug (I think both of them have lost a lot of steam recently too), Anderson Paak should be good but i'm not really eager for it. I'm ready for more Isaiah Rashad though, his last EP was great.
I am looking forward to Jeremih & Ty $ joint album, Earthgang & Earl Sweatshirt's efforts, but again not these aren't really 'major' in the grand scheme of things.

Same, he's right up there for me after Cilvia Demo and Sun's Tirade. Both so good.

Forgot about Earl too but I guess his might be on hold for a while after his Dad died.

His dad died? Sad news :(

Best Albums (in no particular order)

1. Jay-z & Beyonce - Everything is Love (i'm not even sorry, I love it)
2. Black Panther Soundtrack
3. KSG
4. Jay Rock - Redemption
5. The Internet - Hive Mind (do they count?)

Best Songs (in no particular order)

1. Sicko Mode - Travis
2. King's Dead - Black Panther Soundtrack/Redemption
3. Jeremih & Ty $ - The Light
4. Reborn - KSG
5. Paramedic - Black Panther
6. Friends - Jay & Bey
7. Nonstop - Drake
8. 9th vs Thought - Black Thought
9. All The Stars - Black Panther
10. Summer - Jay & Bey

I coulda easily listed another 20, there's been a great abundance of individually good tracks, but lack of cohesion on the albums.

Worst Albums:

1. Ye - I dont even care to listen to it ever again.
2. Post Malone - yeah, not a fan of Post "if you're looking to feel, listen to something other than hip-hop" malone.
3. Nicki Minaj - I think it's her voice, or her immaturity, I just can't warm to her at all
4. Teyana Taylor - Kanye messed up her release really badly.
5. XXXtentacion - I know he died, but I just don't like his music.
6. Nas - by my expectations of him, it was poor - it's a decent body of work but it largely disappointed me.

Albums I liked but stopped listening to - Daytona, KOD, Nasir

Surprised by the hate for Push, he's not even my favorite rapper or anything and his music is a bit outside my core genre but Daytona was one of the best albums of the year.

Didn’t Post Malone say that nonsense and then went on to release depressive type tracks?

No idea how you guys manage to big up KSG, it's been the trashest of them all. Ye got some very good tracks on it, so does Daytona, I just cannot see it at KSG and the first track with the BRA, BRAPAPAPAP, BRAAAAAP, RAPAPAPA shit just puts me off. I expected more from Nas too. Redemption is pretty good, grew on me with time, Rotation 112th and Redemption being standout tracks for me. Mixed bag with Cole's album, there's some good stuff like Once an addict and that diss track on that lil cnut or some other shit and some absolute trash too.

Agree about Nicki her album was terrible.

I honestly haven't gone back and listened to any of the 'big' albums again released this year. I'm liking astroworld so far though.

Slime Language still not on Spotify or Apple :boring::boring:
Fecking Jeffrey is a bellend, i suffer from Ophidiophobia and I can't bloody watch the music videos for the whole Slime Language on YouTube, btw it's a banger.
I had to literally watch the videos looking like Kevin McCalister.

Maybe it’s an LA thing, but Jesus that buddy album is slept on.

They've been talking about it on the Joe Budden podcast, I plan on listening to it on the plane when I go on holiday.

Never heard of the guy before, what's his style like?

Need to invest in some decent headphones. Anyone recommend some Bluetooth ones?
Young thug album sounds shit at first glance
But I know it'll sound completely different in my car

Liking the amine album

I've got Bowers & Wilkins P7 and they're awesome.

My brother in law recently picked up some Bose overears that sounded great too.

Depends on your price range, if the budget is unlimited and you listen to hip-hop, Sony WH-1000XM2 would be my best recommendation.

Oh my god just came across a guy called ‘Killy’ loving his stuff so far!

Nothing stands out massively to me so far this year. Surprised by the lack of discussion on YG. Huge excitement going into that one for me but it didn't manage to reach the heights of Still Brazy. Some very good stuff on it but just expected more by the high standards he'd set.

Bas just released a new album. Too High To Riot was great so I’m looking forward to giving this a listen.

Is this track still your favourite? Just listened to the album again and Stargazing is my favourite on there still. I think Rodeo was a better album though.

Nah probably Houstonfornication or Sicko Mode. Or Carousel. Stargazing is great too.

Still waiting on Isaiah Rashad to release his album and looking forward to the $B project coming in a couple weeks.

I haven’t heard the Eminem album, and I don’t plan to since I’m not a fan. So I’ll leave it up to the fans to say if it’s good or not.

But, can the man release anything without the predictable “feck this guy, that guy, all these guys are whack” diss tracks?
It’s been boring for about 15 years now.
