Same. The remixes he's done are brilliant.

The Mask Off remix in particular is unbelievable. His take on Panda, Look Alive and Gucci Gang are all worth a listen as well. So talented, can't believe I'd not heard of him before now. He's 30 as well apparently.

I just listened to 'I'm not racist' after a friend said it was really good and the first half I was like holy shit the ignorance in this song I was offended and then when the second half came on and I realised the point of the song I was like shit this is gold.

He's brilliant. His last mixtape was really good, very interesting concept behind it.

I'm really disappointed in the Carter V. After waiting patiently for over 3 years I was expecting better. Still can't stop listening to that track with Nicki, didn't expect that from them.

Yeah it's good, his mixtapes are better than his albums, he should stick to them.

Also liked Carter V after first listen.

Carter V has no playback value for me bar 1 or 2 tracks

Unpopular opinion - I can't stand Kendrick Lamar and his stupid whiny voice
Good kid mad city was in heavy rotation but after that can't listen to him

I thought it was just me! Good Kid Mad City grew on me and I still listen to certain tracks from it to this day but other than that I just really don’t see it with him. His voice is weak and I honestly don’t find him that lyrical. With that said, I haven’t listened to TPAB or DAMN in their entirety so it could just be that I’m missing out but his singles don’t impress me. And he pretty much ruins any song he features on for me. As soon as his verse starts on his song with Rich the Kid, it’s an automatic skip.

New Freezer? Man I love his verse on that. Funny how music works like that :D

I can see how you get annoyed with his voice - it's definitely not for everyone.

But thinking he's not lyrical?!

Yeah I’ll admit I’m the odd one out when it comes to Kendrick, it’s annoying too because I’ve tried my hardest to like him! Always feel like I’m missing out

It's crazy, I just think he says a lot without really saying anything. I don't know if I'm just listening to the wrong tracks because on the song Mad City with MC Eight I really liked his whole flow, delivery and lyrics. Can someone point me to a few decent examples of his lyrical ability? I really want to be converted!

Maybe try Section .80?

Rigamortis springs to mind. F*ck Your Ethnicity too.

How much a dollar cost
The blacker the berry
Duckworth
Any of 'The Heart' series
Rigamortis is a good shout from Solius

Most of his lyrical stuff is on s.80 & TPAB

His verse on No More Parties in LA, I get goosebumps every time.

It would be great to see who you think is Lyrical, in the absence of K.Dot though
Out of current artists? Obviously J. Cole, I think Drake can be lyrical (see Lord Knows, Pound Cake most of Take Care), Rick Ross, The Game, Jadakiss, Fab (Their joint album last year was massively slept on) Logic, etc. I realise most of these guys have been around for eons but apart from that, I can’t really think of anyone that I listen to who still releases regular music who I really find lyrical.

My own controversial opinion - I don’t think Cole is that lyrical, or at least he’s not at the level of lyricism that he’s perceived to be.
This perception comes from the fact that he raps about the ‘right’ content, therefore his intellect is perceived to be higher, thus his ability is better etc etc

He’s not near Kendrick, definitely doesn’t deserve the comparisons to Nas, and he’s kinda included in these conversations because of his reputation.

Paak and Kenny song is ok. It's very funky and I like it more after a couple listens but I feel like this is just a default Anderson Paak song. Was hoping for a slightly different direction after Venice and Malibu.

Kendrick's verse feels a bit phoned in.

I could listen to Jay Rock go “I gotta go get it I gotta go get it” on repeat forever

I've met plenty of people who feel this way, so don't worry you're not the only one. For me Kendrick is quite polarising I like a lot of his content and there's a lot I don't like too, even though other people think it's great, e.g I don't think TPAB is that great though lot of people will say it's his best album.

Try Ronald Reagan era.

J Cole is boring af, he's just your standard good rapper and doesn't offer anything unique. JID on his label is much more interesting and is about to blow up.

I think J Cole gets too much hate. He is still pretty good. I loved Forest Hills Drive. FYEO was extremely forgettable and KID was ok.

His features have been great so far this year though for me anyway. Especially on Tribe with Bas and also on Pretty Little Fears with 6LACK.

Ok, what we're not going to do is slander J Cole . I see where you're coming from but I do disagree. If you listen from songs from loved ones to power trip, he shows his versatility. His story telling is a particular strong point for me and he's also capable of making club bangers like work out. I do think he's held on such a pedestal because he's hell bent on being a conscious rapper but I think he stands out along time an all time great like Common in that regard.

Yeah it may just be a style preference. I'd personally compare him to someone like Cavani. Consistently puts up good numbers and is held in a high regard but a lot of people just don't see it. And I belong in the latter camp!

It wasn't really until DAMN. that he proper blew up mainstream, and I think it was his worst album.

Really? Didn't realise, I thought GKMC and TLOPB sold well for today's standards.

The Life Of Pablo's Butterfly?

 I'm not sure. Maybe but I still think he wasn't as well known then.

I agree in a way. He also over uses profanities. Pretty sure he got criticised for that at one point too.

As for K.Dot. Haven’t liked that much after Section .80.

Nah Cole needs slander!
I thought he had the most potential since I saw the Young Simba video, and at that point Drake was wearing Supra’s with Trey Songz, and Kendrick was basically a freestyle rapper only.
His career has plateaued because his fans accept his mediocrity purely because he achieves the bare minimum.
Rap about conscientious issues? Yes.
No features? Yes.
Maintain a mysterious persona? (read: social media is for kids and I’m too woke for it) Yes!
Diss the popular rappers who only make music for entertainment? Yep.
His story telling is better than average, but it’s really not as great as it’s made out to be - it can’t conpare to Kendrick’s for example. GKMC, TPAB and DAMN especially.

I think Common is a good comparison - objectively & independently he’s a great rapper, but when you start considering other rappers, he falls further and further down the list.

What Cole has benefited from is the fact that the likes of Big Sean, Wale, Big KRIT etc aren’t as popular as him, else they would’ve taken his place.
But I do believe someone like Logic has a case for being the third best new gen rapper - his discography is solid (potentially more consistent than Cole?), he sells a lot, raps about the right things etc.
But his reputation is that he’s corny, so he’s immediately dismissed
At the moment, Cole is just there because we all assume he should be.

Yeah he has a penchant for talking about farts and shit. It was a meme at one point
