Music Commercial Hip Hop Thread

Not a hardcore fan, but i like a lot of his Music and had some of his songs on repeat for days.

Shocked to hear that he has passed. Didn’t seem like a guy totally out of balance, but what do i know.

Ah, you're WUMming.

No, I'm indifferent in all fairness. Just shit tired of this recent culture which is wanking over doing all kinds of drugs and acting all 'gangster' and then, ironically enough, you read about 'rappers' either ODing or getting shot. Keep feeding the already dumb and lost kids all this shit too, surely will help our society.

There is a place and a time to talk about the over glorification of drug use and violence in pop music today. This isn't any of those. Especially when the issue isn't as simple as " stop using drugs". Oversimplification is the domain of morons and those who don't know what the feck they're talking about. And it's ok to be ignorant yet silent.

This is a commercial hip-hop, not a 'write a generic RIP Mac Miller' thread so I'm not sure why this isn't the time or the place to talk about it, if you want to write it then be my guest, don't expect everybody to follow though. As for the second part of your post, I fail to feel offended unfortunately but then perhaps you were talking about the contemporary rappers so hey.

I wasn't trying to cause offense. I'd call you an idiot if that was the case.

What I said was a statement of fact.

I actually did not like Mac Miller when he first broke through in the mainstream. I like a lot of people put him in the same box Asher Roth was in. But, Mac Miller was able to show tremendous growth as an artist over the years. And few rappers have consistently put better projects out as Mac has done the last few years.

So I listened to the $uicideboy$ album which cured my depression and then I hear Mac is dead and it's just completely killed my mood.

6LACK and Noname have albums out today.

Just listened to East Atlanta Love Letter (6LACK's), it's good. Stan gave me crazy Sigur Ros vibes and Cole's feature was nice. PRBLEMS was one of the best songs of 2016 and I still listen to it on rotation now so hopefully these grow on me too.

Just starting Room 25 now. I see a Saba and Smino feature

2 of my favourite albums from 2016, i'm excited to listen to both over the weekend

Know Noname from the Surf Album. Really talented artist.

Kanye has announced Yandhi and that he’s working on Good Ass Job with Chance.

Lupe just released Drogas Wave, I have to say it feels like ot's even better the Food & Liquor, worth noting it's an indie project, all recorded in his own house, so please if anyone listens to it and like it support the artist.

The concept revolve around slavery, the word waves in the title is meant toqards those taken from Africa and jumped in the sea "those who wouldn't become slaves, became waves."

Can you tell me the songs you think are the best, and i'll take a listen to those?
I like the concept but that's a lot to take in on a Friday morning.

Manila, Drogas has a nice vibe to it, wav files is fantastic, Gold vs the Right Things to Do is very creative I really like it as well, Alan Forever has a great story, Down, Haile Selassie, and Jonylah Forever are also really good, there are just so many good ones, you don't have to listen to it all right away, just listen to it in multiple different sessions lol.

Thanks!
Those songs were alright for a first listen through - largely better than I was expecting.
I'll listen to the rest over the weekend.

Liking the amine album

Recently discovered him, I'm still on his first album - but loving it and kicking myself for not getting into him earlier.

He's got potential to be my new favourite rapper.

Noname was great, I think I prefer Telefone over this new one - but i'm sure it'll grow on me too.

8 tracks into the Lupe album and it's utter borefest. I'm struggling to get through this but I'm plugging along hoping it gets better.

Listened to Lupe's new album today thought it was very good, one of the better albums released this year.

Just to shed some light, the song Alan Forever and Jonylah Forever are like 2 parts of a story, it's about 2 little kids who died because of tragic conditions, Alan is tribute to Alan Kurdi a little boy who was a Syrian refugee trying to escape war on a boat but drowned and his body was found at the shores of Turkey, while Jonylah was a little girl who was killed due to gang violence, both songs are re-imagining of those kids life story and what could've been.

Anyone listened to Thug’s new EP yet?

Only played it through once, but that Elton John sample is amazing.
