College Football 2024

Jalen Milroe putting on one of the worst bowl performances

I've never seen the hype with him. He finished sixth in Heisman voting in 2023 which I found odd, recall he was benched for the South Florida game and had his struggles against ranked opposition (did have a great rushing game vs LSU though). His passing was meh this season.

I find NFL scouts tend to drool over a QB's specs - size and all - too much. He could be another Anthony Richardson, granted Milroe showed much more poise in the passing game compared to Richardson but he also had much better coaching and supporting talent.

What's the story with these rank numbers?

I thought Penn were 4 and Boise were 9?

I'm still confused by that
In a seeded bracket, you create rankings of the participants in order to create matchups.

For instance, in a 16 man / team tournament, your 16 seed (worst in field) will compete against your 1 seed (best in field) in the 1st round of the event, the 2 gets the 15, 3 the 14, 4 the 12, etc.

In a 12 man / team event, the top 4 seeds get 1st round byes. Penn State was seeded 6th, so based on how the bracket is set up, they competed against the 11 seed first, and then advanced to the 2nd round to meet the 3 seed.

But why were Boise seeded higher than them here when they finished the regular season ranked better than Boise?

Is it because they won their conference? Same as when teams win their division in the NFL may get higher rankings than a team with a better record.

Because, as @JJ12 said, they were a conference champion. Seed criteria doesn't always match up with rankings due to different weight being added to things. In the case of the CFP, they give the highest 4 conference champs the top 4 seeds to give them 1st round byes.

Damn, Texas takes two plays to score after ASU had a long drive aided by two bad Texas penalties yield a field goal. I'll be surprised if ASU keeps within striking distance late in this game, could end up a blowout. Depends on which Texas and which Ewers shows up.

I think Georgia v Notre Dame will be a close one - I'd probably lay the money on Georgia but hopeful for an Irish win. Ohio State v Oregon could go either way for me but seems most analysts are picking Ohio State - I really don't want that, can't fecking stand that fanbase so go Oregon.

Texas has come out in their typical flat selves, ugh. They had a good stop in the red zone then immediately feck up and allow a safety (fortunately, could have been worse). Now letting ASU march downfield again. Defense finally stopped ASU on this drive but now it's a game again, 17-8.

Sort of Jekyll-Hyde routine that gives me fear not only for this half but should they win and play Ohio State/Oregon winner could see them get ran out of the stadium ala Georgia earlier in the season.

Peak Sark madness on that last sequence with those passes at the 2:00 mark and Ewers missing of course, thus putting his kicker in a long attempt which was missed.

ASU will probably win this on a last second field goal. Ultimate upset. Oregon and Ohio State will probably kick either team's ass on this display.

Skattebo will be fun to see at the next level. He ain't gonna blow past defenses with speed - around 4.60 range - but he's a pounder and has some moves, also seems able to get in the passing game and capable blocker.

Very fortunate, just like against Clemson - a game they should have won going away becomes a squeaker.

Get your shit together, Texas, because Oregon or Ohio State will smash you on these sort of performances.
