His style is different but he's another player who like Rashford, pops up in moments. I just don't know how sustainable it is but I suppose I'm ignoring the fact that Bruno, Eriksen are there to provide the "technical" support.

Theres likely a lot of scenarios that Ten Hag can train Gakpo on, so I will definitely back his methods. I just have some concerns.
But in general, I think he moves and keeps the ball way better than Rashford. So I guess, I feel like his floor in his performance is better than Rashford's in that sense, so he will be better at moments for the team. Rashford will be better suited through the middle where he can focus on stretching the pitch.

He pops up in moments and that can be a bad thing in a team where these moments are rare. In a team like Man Utd under ETH where we are looking to dominate possession and create chances, he may really shine and his clean finishing and decent physique could be just is enough.

Same here. Rashford is a winger. Good at cutting inside and even though he is a good dribbler, he tends to dribble when in Motion.
Gakpo is more of a positional player. Isn't much of a dribbler like Rashford but more Finding and occupying spaces in attack.

He is a better dribbler than Rashford, and the stats back it up. Rashford averages 1.56 dribbles per 90 (54th percentile) while Gakpo averages 2.98 dribbles per 90 (95th percentile) so one could argue Gakpo is one of the most effective dribbling inside forwards at the moment, albeit in the Eredivisie. He doesn't dribble as flashy as Dembele or Neymar but he gets it done.

Agreed and I think this will make Rashford more effective centrally.

His assisting impresses me more than his goal stat, which is somewhat padded by easy finishes and penalties. Great cross on him. I wonder how his goal scoring will hold up against better defenses in the PL and against more defensive teams.

Those stats are in the eredivisie though. Not to put the league down but i doubt his dribbling stats will as good in the epl. Additionally, his dribbling style is different to Rashford's and more similar to Martial's ( quick body feints to give himself space rather than taking on fullbacks.)

His stats may be better but he's certainly not better than Suarez as a player.

I like him but he's too similar to Rashford in that he can do feck all and be anonymous for 88 minutes and score in a moment. That's fine if one of the front 3 is like that, but it can be a problem if 2 out of the front 3 are like that.

That said, ETH probably has a plan to better him. He might turn him into an out and out CF which will be interesting.
Think this signalling a more permanent Rashford move to the center or a bt of interchanging of positions between the two. It will exciting to see what ETH has planned either way.

Worries me that once again we seem to targeting players who are available/easier to negotiate a transfer, rather than a proper fit stylistic wise.

I think you got this backwards. In the past we spent heavily on names that was difficult to obtain. Now, we will spend less, due to EtHs focus on players that is a proper fit stylistic wise rather than big names.

I think when you get the right player for the right system they become a name.

For example Cancelo for City looks great for City but when he plays for Portugal they turn into a ghost (obviously a good player but City elevates him to another level)

Often if the system plays to their strengths people can think its purely the player when it's not.

What i'll say about him is even though what I've seen doesn't look particularly terrorising and even though it doesnt look like he immediately addresses any pressing need in the team, he has the attributes to do well in the PL given enough time and support. He can get past several men, his link up play and close control looks quite good, he has a great shot and cross on him and he's tall and mobile. The attributes are there but 40m-45m is too much. The price tag he was reportedly available for in the summer would have been a much better entry point.

Where would you reckon we'd play him then? If he's suited to constantly finding himself in the right positions then I'm assuming he's going to be remoulded as a CF that can also work channels?
I think it will be as a LW/inside forward but also as No10 back up and occasionally as a false 9 type forward.

I’d imagine:
Martial
Gakpo Bruno Rashford

Or

Gakpo
Rashford Bruno Antony

or

Martial
Rashford Gakpo Antony
He seems like he's built for the prem really, strong enough he can roll people, hold up the ball, has some tricks and has a hell of a shot too.

I think he's a bit boring because he seems to be effective without it really looking fancy. He's basically if Bellingham was a forward to me in play style.
It’s because he’s more of a positionally dominant player than a “baller” as some would say.

Having seen him extensively not just highlights yes he’s an above average dribbler and a very good ball carrier but this is where I’d happily say dribbling wise Eredivise is easier to stand out.

He is a good positional play player and that is the appeal for me. He knows where he needs to be to either create or get a shot off and we need that in this team.

If he goes to Liverpool we aren’t serious about him or we want Felix instead.

Seen his goal highlights. I've not seen such clean striking of a football, with either foot, and minimal back lift in a long time. The amount of times he cuts in from the left and bends it with power and precision in the top corner from far out.

Now I know people will argue it's only highlights videos but the last time I had seen such spectacular shooting was Forlan before he joined us. Whilst he did struggle here those early videos/goals were exactly the type he continued to score throughout his career.

Gakpo's traits remind me of Greenwood but is fair to say Gakpo has done more in his career than Greenwood had done (before someone steps in to say Gakpo is average and Greenwood was a generational talent).

Now I want him.

Seriously I actually don't care but he probably suits Liverpool better.

Makes more sense them buying a LW than us with Diaz and Jota out long term. Don't see us spending that kind of money in January.

I’m not that bothered to be honest. We’re fine for players in his position and he’s not really that good anyway

PSV just trying to bump the offer up is my bet

if they are spunking 50m in January it needs to be a midfielder

Come from Joyce so certainly true. Let’s see what happens.

With the injury to Luis Diaz and Nunez looking like a dud, it makes sense to look at him on their part tbh.

Just hope we're far enough into negotiations that it won't matter much

We already are thanks to the work that United did in the summer. We've also been in touch with his agent regularly in the past few weeks. The only thing that remains is for United to submit an offer to PSV. Liverpool have yet to get there, but they're getting close to our position.

Very reliable journo. Makes me think we've got our eyes on someone else if that's actually true.
More likely we’re not spending big in January (for what, third season running?)

Out of nowhere, Skybet have made Liverpool 11/8 favourites to sign Gakpo, with United on 6/4. Has anyone heard anything about Liverpool's interest, as I had heard it was Arsenal who were also snooping around?
Good shout on that. Clearly somebody had some insider info!

Me neither. He’s very like rashford and if money an issue then maybe we will take Felix on loan. There is a player in that boy for sure.
