Club ownership | Senior management team talk

Not liking this dilly dally, passing the buck attitude. It’s clear they want to bin him but have no idea who to replace him with. I’m almost buying into the idea Ruud was only brought on board for the inevitable caretaker role.

Should go back to Tuchel cap in hand, have this awful feeling they will tell Ratcliffe it's still not the right time to sack him after game

I mean that isn’t exactly a massive endorsement. He would know exactly what the management team think of ETH and the writing looks to be on the wall

He's paying people, more knowledgeable than him, millions of pounds to do a job. I think it's great he's allowing them to do said job and not putting his bias into it.

True, just worrying they lack bottle on big decisions

Passing the buck.
Nah last thing we want is an owner thinking they know best. He’s literally watching sailing, living the good life and probably getting boozy with mates every other day, hardly someone you want making the decisions.

In fairness he said he would allow the people he hired to make the football decisions. He learned that lesson at Nice.
Worryingly, Nice have never been great under INEOS.

Letting Brest pip them to CL football last season was poor. Undefeated in Ligue 1 from August to the 1st week of December. Then collapsed.

Lost 5-1 against Lazio yesterday. They probably don't care now that they've invested in United, but still.

And yet he is apparently the one who kept Eric in the job.

Perfect. The football people that were hired to make football decisions are being left to make the football decisions.

Passing the buck.
Not really - he can’t really win long term by making decisions himself about footballing matters. He hires peoples who are experts in this field to make the decisions. If their decisions do not work, he will make the decision to get in new people who will make the correct decision.

In fairness he cant really say anything different to the media. As he says he has a team in place and he cant be seen to undermine them, in public at least.
But who was responsible for keeping him in? Jim, if he's saying the current team onlg really started working together in June.

Not sure enough people have responded to the passing the buck comment

His comments read like ETH will be gone soon. I’m pretty sure he keeps constant communication with his management team. If they tell him they want to keep ETH, sir Jim would have provided more assurances with his comments. It’s clear they have their doubts over ETH.

When the opening words are ‘I like Erik’, I think it means it’s going to happen very soon.

Those comments sound to me like when they do sack him, the excuse will be making clear that Omar and Ashworth weren't in their roles during the summer, so it's not as if they have changed their mind after a few months regarding ETH. It's a plausible reason, although I find it hard to believe that neither would have expressed strong view before officially taking their respective roles.

How is it not Sir Jim's call if he is in charge of the Football side of the business?

Because unlike the Glazers he hired people to be in charge.

Its Ashworth and Berredas call

It matches up with what he said when they first bought their stake, where he said he wouldn’t be making the decisions and he’d leave that up to the football people at the club. I don’t think Berrada and Ashworth were even linked with us at the time but they are the two people who will make the decision.

I’m certain he has an opinion on the matter and has relayed it to them. Ratcliffe hasn’t exactly sung the highest praises of ETH since he got his share. He has probably praised Sir Alex more than he has, which is somewhat telling.

Seems like he's undermining them anyway when he's point blank asked if he still has faith in Erik ten Hag and says he doesn't wish to answer that question. Clearly the public answer should be "yes" for so long as he remains the manager. The only way refusing to answer makes sense is if a decision has already been made to sack him and an announcement is imminent. So, you know... fingers crossed.

It’s what he’s done in a lot of Ineos business. Gets people in who know business or specialism and let them make decisions…. but he does check what they do/attends regular meetings so while I think he’ll leave call to Berrada/Ashworth, I do think he’ll be keeping in close contact and expect them to justify their decisions.
