City and Financial Doping | Charged by PL with numerous FFP breaches | Hearing begins 16th September 2024

Spotify pay 5m for Nou Camp rights which is part of an overall 60-70m per year sponsorship deal that is primarily a shirt and training kit deal.

Supposedly, the Etihad naming rights number is closer to 20-25m but still comical how City believe they can get away with all this blatant fraud, but wouldn't surprise me if they do.

When the new Camp Nou is finished Spotify will pay 15 per season I think I remember.

Confirms my profoundly stereotyped bias of American owners/directors getting rich of sports businesses whilst State owned clubs are just PR vehicles paid for by the state monopoly in question.
Yet you'll have the usual suspects coming to tell you there's no such thing as sports washing.

Chelsea's directors wage bill is ridiculous but of course directors should get a remuneration. This is silly.

Nice knowing you Wrighty! Sky happy as long as it’s bringing them the bacon. If they dare take it all elsewhere then you having them kicking up a fuss a la the super league.

Ian Wright will be silenced in due course.

The overlap income has sorted him out, that might be the first time I’ve heard a pundit mention the 115 specifically outside of people talking about it when it was announced. I thought he was going to bring up Oliver and UAE links, what a hero he would have been.

Ian Wright will be silenced in due course.

Good on him for bringing it up, but even there he's being very careful about what he says. It's been cringeworthy watching the extent to which football people on TV, Radio even Podcasts will contort themselves to avoid the topic. I'm skeptical as to whether they'll ever face any sufficient punishment but man if they do, I'll be breaking out the special champagne.

If the City charges aren’t dealt with adequately, then there is going to be a major backlash against the premier league.
There’s too much smoke AND fire AND evidence that City have taken the absolute mickey out of fair play and rules.
Why should everyone else try to abide by the rules if City can just blatantly disregard them?
Why should Everton get badly punished for 1 breach and City not get 115 times that?

Ian Wright will be silenced in due course.

This shows to me how City have bullied and/or bribed everyone to oblivion - Wright has to tiptoe around the topic.

Also, "there has been a date set but we don't know what that date is..." Why? Seems bizrate. Or is it just more shadiness coming from sports' most cheating club?

He mentions the charges as though they're an affront to city, rather than a serious indication of systematic fraud.

'Oh get the charges out of the way and all is good'

Not so.
Exactly. City have bullied and bribed the industry into submission. If they get away with it, that's me done with the sport (in the UK).

Fraud?

That's a very reasonable number considering the history and the club. Etihad naming rights amount is obvious bullshit fraud.
It's a little difficult to determine what you are saying, are you saying they are pretending they are getting more money from Spotify than they are? If so they would be caught very quickly.

Still not a strong enough criticism from Wright. The pundits are cowards, call it how it is, a nothing football club in city rises to the top because of financial doping and fraud. I wish all the pundits that glossed over this get their pants fully pulled down in public when the FA hands down its punishment.

That makes more sense. I don’t think you could sponsor a better club than Barcelona even if they aren’t that good right now. Tourists love their stadium more than anyone else’s on the planet.

Hence why I think they always bring in the most commercial money always have in the past 2 decades I imagine.

Maybe but you can’t just come out and bury a club live on air as a pundit.

City are owned by very powerful people who are ingrained in the highest levels of football…

Ian Wright also has to put food on his families table for years to come in the same industry.

He’s not the guy whose job it is. It’s the courts. After a guilty verdict 100% pile on but City’s lawyers can destroy you if you say the truth and they are found innocent in court.

It’s an immediate case against him as City basically have unlimited money for lawyers. He doesn’t.

The world isn’t simple when you’re dealing with entities like City who we all assume are corrupt.

He mentions like someone who knows he could get himself blacklisted for speaking the truth so has to be very measured in what he says and how he says it.

He's done something there nobody else who values their punditry career dares do. The fallout from this will be interesting.

From a 2023 article:"Shaun Wright-Phillips, 41, who now works as a club ambassador at the Etihad Stadium"
If his son is still employed by City it could also be a reason why he doesn't go all out...

Funny some of you making City out like the Khmer Rouge. Wright and his family are just going to disappear without a trace for casually bringing up what’s been a major topic of open discussion.

There will be a major backlash on Redcafe, RAWK amd r/soccer if City gets away with it. People who run clubs don't give a sh!t.

I doubt it will.

He's danced around it. Fair enough, he's acknowledged it but only in the sense we 'need' to 'move on' from it.

Wright's son is employed by city, remember.

city's owners are an actual dictatorship. nowhere near as bad as the khmer rouge, but absolutely the type of brutal thugs fully capable of 'disappearing' its dissidents.

Shamefully, some amongst our own club was willing to embrace, and excuse, a similar structure as the corrupting influence of 'football comes first' reigns.

Sportswashing doing its job.

Me mentioned it, but I'm pretty sure that's all he can do. I would imagine that like any ongoing investigation or legal process they are restricted as to what they can and can't say publicly on live TV, there's probably teams of lawyers ready to pounce on anyone who dares even talk about it at length.

Can't believe the BS Wright is getting for not being strong enough. Being a hero to forum posters doesn't put food on the table. Wright has done something that no other pundit has done. I'd have thought he'd deserve credit for that.

I don’t know how anyone expects him to outright accuse City of cheating. Are you going to pay his litigation fees if City come after him? City haven’t been found guilty of anything. He has to be careful.

Think commenting on the obvious inflation of how they valued their sponsorship deals. Issue with self sponsoring is you can just say, this is worth x, y or z and pay way over the odds (which is what City did). Wenger called them out on it when it started but no one really cared.

If city get away with it (and that includes just getting a fine, which won't bother them at all) and just continue dominating football with their ill-gained squad, do you think other clubs will take a stand?

The super league idea falls flat in that regard because city were part of it. Would have given the idea the time of day if city weren't allowed to be involved.
