City and Financial Doping | Charged by PL with numerous FFP breaches | Hearing begins 16th September 2024

If city get away with it (and that includes just getting a fine, which won't bother them at all) and just continue dominating football with their ill-gained squad, do you think other clubs will take a stand?

The super league idea falls flat in that regard because city were part of it. Would have given the idea the time of day if city weren't allowed to be involved.
I don't think anyone will take a stand. It would just legitimise City, they are probably at a point now where they don't need to cheat, in a decades time they'll probably have enough legit fans and income that they'll be fully part of the elite.

I think some fans might have warmed to the idea if it excluded oil clubs but I think it was always doomed as it was never about integrity.

Think commenting on the obvious inflation of how they valued their sponsorship deals. Issue with self sponsoring is you can just say, this is worth x, y or z and pay way over the odds (which is what City did). Wenger called them out on it when it started but no one really cared.
Not sure what that has to do with their Spotify deal though, as far as I know they don't own it.

Doubt that. If their true wage bill was divulged and measured against the made up deals they have posted to cover it, that squad would not be feasible.

The 'footballing elite' is a myth, peddled by city fans.

Name one of the 'elite' that hasn't seen and experienced an enormous drop off of success and competitiveness in the last 30 years for sporting reasons. Possibly only bayern have been utterly dominant and that's a German league issue.

The fact is that when the big teams drop off, other teams can capitalise. City though, cheated the PL out of this. But they want to argue that Arsenal, without a title in 2 decades and never won a CL, are part of some cabal that wants to maintain a status quo? Or Liverpool who went 3 decades without a title are part of this machine? Or juventus who went to serie b? Or barca who were painfully shit for the better part of a decade and now have as much chance of winning a Cl as Brighton do.

Its a myth. Supported by cheats to feel better about cheating

I know Dave Jones was squirming while Wrighty was speaking, fecking rat
I'm picturing a producer off-camera rapidly making my cut-throat gestures and executives screaming; "HE'S DAMAGING THE PRODUCT!" into headsets.

Has anyone seen Wrighty since? He might get Boeing-ed.

Yet you'll have the usual suspects coming to tell you there's no such thing as sports washing.

Chelsea's directors wage bill is ridiculous but of course directors should get a remuneration. This is silly.

Think you will find its massively inflated due to the sale and contractural payments from Fordstam to ex directors

How did you guys not know this!? They'd have Ian Wright in the studio almost every time SWP played

I don’t know how anyone expects him to outright accuse City of cheating. Are you going to pay his litigation fees if City come after him? City haven’t been found guilty of anything. He has to be careful.
Agree. Just him bringing it up was dangerous enough. If there's one thing better than City's midfield it's their legal department.

Oh it’s clearly absolute nonsense when the two biggest team in England, by some distance, both went almost 3 decades without a title.
Then just look what has happened to our apparent “Elite” club post Fergie, over a decade of utter shite.

There’s never been such thing as a status quo, just periods with great managers, doing special things. Same goes for France & Italy also. There’s certainly an argument for Spain, but that’s been complained about for decades due to the shitty way they “share” tv revenue.

The City fan on the Overlap discussing the charges today was a moron.
The standard reaction to being confronted about it.
.”You’re just upset because your team isn’t good”. No actual attempt to discuss the allegations or acknowledge them, classic deflection technique.
I’ve also noticed that city fan is always overcompensating. He always feels the need to mention how much he’s enjoyed the success. Like that bloke at a party not having fun, lying to himself that he’s having fun.

he sounds like the kind of City fan who hates us more than he loves his own team. It’s a small club mentality.

Even Bayern's total dominance is a relatively new thing.

From 1990/91 to 2011/12 they won 10 of the 22 available titles, Dortmund five, with the rest being shared among Kaiserslautern, Stuttgart, Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg. Since then they've won 11 of 11.

Kind of feel for how invested he is in something so clearly wrong.

His vindication of the Etisalat deal was possibly the worst I've heard. It's fair market value because someone from Etisalat said it was...yes, that is entirely the issue.

City's owners blocked from buying the Daily Telegraph by the government, I guess the claims that the government will do whatever is needed to protect international relations is wrong.

I like how the charges they mention are the grass length and the size of the rooms and nothing else.

We'd all like to see the PL throw the book at them, but what it will probably boil down to is the legality of FFP and the sustainability rules.

City will likely walk away unscathed.

They won't when you have other clubs getting points deductions. They will get punished it's just a question of the extent.

Just watched and logged on to say this. Just complete and utter denial from beginning to end. I was a bit disappointed that he got so much mic time with barely a challenge. He even managed to delude himself that Mansour and co are doing everyone in the premier league a favour by taking on the might of the premier league.

Alternatively, if they cheat on the field as well, then Mansour and co will be doing everyone a favour by taking on the might of football itself. While we peons are stuck with following the rules that City are bravely fighting against. The offside rule and others are an unfair imposition on brave little City, who will be doing us all a favour by ignoring them and winning trophies with their team of lawyers.

It's a classic "fan" response to be honest. They will clutch at any irrationalities they can to legitimise their success. If they are found guilty we will see a number of them still run in circles trying to justify things.

The 115 club aiming to be the best ever football club in the history of PL. After cheating for so many years they killed the competitiveness of PL.

"City are also aiming to become the first side to win four English top-flight titles in a row as they sit one point off Premier League leaders Arsenal, whom they face on March 31 at the Etihad.

The Citizens face Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-finals next month, while they are also looking forward to a heavyweight Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid.

Bernstein believes a second consecutive treble would make this City team "the greatest club side in the history of English football".

The ex-FA chairman said: "The question is, can they [Man City] replicate last season? I think they've got a chance.

"I still think they're favourites for the league. I'd expect them really to be favourites for the FA Cup. The Champions League is very, very tough, but they're a great side.

"If they could do this now, I think they could claim to be the greatest club side in the history of English football.

"To do the treble two years running, it's never been done, and to win the Premier League or the top division four times in a row has never happened. It would be unique and remarkable."

Apologies if this has been shared previously but I couldn’t see it anywhere.

This got shared on a WhatsApp group last night and they are all either so unbelievably naive, OR we are all going to have to walk away with our tails between our legs in a few months.

The excitement is going to kill me:rolleyes:

City aren't cheats
